Soundtrack Petition Reboot on Change.org!

Hey all,

As you might know, I started a petition to get a soundtrack for MLP:FiM released back in April 2011 through PetitionOnline. It had an impressive turnout with more than 6,200 signatures... unfortunately, it wasn't very effective at providing change to see it happen.

However, with MLP:FiM now celebrating its second year anniversary and the fandom getting hyped for season 3, I feel that now is the time to reboot the petition on Change.org, a medium far more effective than PetitionOnline for a couple of reasons:

- Every signature the petition will receive generates an automatic e-mail sent to three Hasbro internal addresses, including the Head of Marketing / Public Relations for Hasbro Studios.

- Easy to share to your friends via e-mail, Facebook, and Twitter; change can happen faster when getting others involved becomes a simpler process.

My goal with this reboot is, at the very least, to see open acknowledgement from Hasbro and/or The Hub that a soundtrack is being produced (though not necessarily to be released right away). I am aware that a fan asked about a soundtrack release at the recent NYCC panel, to which Mike Vogel (Vice President of Development for Hasbro Studios) responded: "
." However, Hasbro executives were present at the panel and there were similar answers given to other sensitive fan questions ("mmmaybe"; "sounds good!"; "we don’t know"), so this does not necessarily provide 100% confirmation.

Why else do we need a soundtrack? I spoke with Daniel Ingram about that in person a few months ago (quotes are mine):

"If a soundtrack CD ever does come out professionally (one that does not slap all of the TV mixes of the songs together as a means of a quick cash-in), not only will a number of songs be heard in full as they were written and intended to be heard by Daniel, but their overall sound will be greatly improved and heard like never before." This is because "two different mixes of all of his songs take place in post production - one mix in 5.1 surround that is heard in the final product of the episode, and another mix in stereo that sounds radically different and is meant to be used and heard only in case a soundtrack CD ever materializes." Daniel has also said that a lot of material ends up being cut for the final TV versions and (as of late July 2012) he does not know anything about Hasbro releasing a soundtrack album.

So, please - sign the petition, send it out to your friends, share it, tweet it, reblog it, whatever. Do your part to ensure that the petition gets as many signatures as possible! I'm counting on all of you to make it happen!

I'd sign it, but I'm not comfortable sharing the personal info. Though I still support it and wish you luck, I'm sure you'll get a ton of signings and it would be awesome if they released a soundtrack for FiM.

There's a box that you can uncheck as you're signing that says "Display my signature publicly" - that way, you can still sign the petition anonymously, without the site posting your name and address out in public. (Change.org requires those details to cut down on the amount of fake signatures petitions receive - though even if I did get fake signatures in this case, they'd still generate e-mails to Hasbro)

Aaaaand it's signed. I really am glad that someone has been putting out actual petitions, because I don't pirate anything. Never have, never will. I just don't like the morality of it. (yeah, I'm a chivalrous, naive idiot) But if this works, then I would gladly buy it.

Typically, online petitions don't seem to do jack if you're trying to get a project up and coming. I'm sure Hasbro will release a soundtrack soon enough. Heck, I think every cartoon show has at least one soundtrack during it's lifetime (mostly for merchandising and licensing issues....gotta give out those credits somehow!)

Unless you had some sponsorship or advertising campaigns for your petition, then it could really start to grow.

Maybe I don't understand soundtracks, but why would they downgrade the audio for an audio-specific product? Referring to this:

5.1 surround that is heard in the final product of the episode, and another mix in stereo that sounds radically different and is meant to be used and heard only in case a soundtrack CD

Does 5.1 not sound as nice using stereo headphones, and most people have stereo headphones?

I've seen a bunch of fan made soundtracks popping up around the internet, but obviously the quality would be a million times better coming straight from the source.

I've signed it, but I'm not gonna hold my breath.

Best of luck to you, though! Hope it goes well!

Wont give out any info online, but, I would sign. I have a major issue about getting stalked (I am being stalked currently by about 5 people on YouTube who like my videos so much.) I mean, I'm not paranoid, cause, they wanted to go to the ends of the earth. So, ya, I wish I could sign. Plus, I don't want to be mailed anything, so, that is a bigger issue. My parents would have no clue. Better not go into anymore details.

Because regular audio CDs can't store 5.1 surround, only stereo. The SACD format can store more audio channels and generally has far more capacity than CDs, though it was short-lived and a commercial failure (they're also more expensive to produce).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Audio_CD

If you're listening to music through headphones, rather than through a 5.1 surround home theater setup, you might as well just downmix all audio channels to 2.0 stereo since it would make no difference on the listener's end.

You do not have to provide your street / house number to Change.org. The "full address" field only requires city and state/province/country to my knowledge (I'm not sure if it'll accept only a country name in that field)

And like I mentioned above:

Oh I am so in for this ! Could you imagine Winter Wrap Up in 5.1 surround sound? Now if they could just start working on MLP in 3D... then.. that would be proof heaven does exist...

Does 5.1 not sound as nice using stereo headphones, and most people have stereo headphones?

"5.1 Surround Sound" means that an audio track is separated into six layers - left front, right front, left rear, right rear, center, and bass. In a typical movie theater environment, these six layers give you the positional audio that accompanies the visuals. MLP carries that same idea - any sounds are done in surround sound, in case you're watching with a high quality setup (I happen to have 5.1 surround installed here at my desk).

However, your average headset/earbuds are stereo. Two sound sources, and two sounds sources only (left and right). You can play 5.1 (or even 6.1 or 7.1) surround sound through them, but the computer and headset has to merge all of the incoming sound into two outputs, instead of the native 6.

Simply put, the music sounds better if a professional studio program renders it into two outputs, instead of the computer trying to "guess" as to where the sound should go. (Note that the difference is actually negligible - unless you have some incredibly good ears, you wouldn't notice much of a difference at all.)

You can buy surround sound headsets, but they're quite spendy and rather limited in use, since 1) not very many programs use them and 2) only high quality sound cards have enough stereo ports to support them.

So part of it is quality, but I'm guessing that it's part "professionalism" for Mr. Ingram.

Thanks for replying, just I have a 5.1 headset so it's kind of disappointing (but understandable) when I see so few 5.1 tracks for music then when they are available they are turned into stereo. I support the CD still.

Signed. Like I said in my reason why it's important to me... I want to blast Winter Wrap Up like never before!

I think this cd would benefit from being a dual disc, 2 sided cd/dvd. This way we would get both stereo and 5.1 versions. Either way I would be buying it.

I would sign the petition for the MLP soundtrack as well, but I don't know if it's ok (because I am a minor). And I am just putting this next sentence because I was below the minimum.

That should not be a problem. They do not ask for age, etc. Just name, and address. Concerned kids start petitions all the time. It never hurts to try.

I'll sign it because it's something I'd like to see materialize, but the sad fact is that these petitions rarely cause anything to happen. It never hurts to try, just don't put too much hope in this thing.

That... actually sounds like a great idea!

As a huge music fan, especialy of orchestral and songs that tell stories, the soundtrack of the MLP:FiM series really inspired me, and I found it very nice to listen too. The lyrics are also pretty moving at times as well.

And it is for this reason that i support this petition!

There are a couple good reasons why I'm signing this.

First of all, I'm not one who likes to download things, such as TV episodes and songs, when I can fully support the gifted souls at Hasbro and DHX who provide us with it. Also, the music in the show, both the original songs and underscore, is some of the best and most iconic I've ever heard. They even surpass music industry songs and, my personal favorite, video game music in some levels.

Plus, like buying the TV episodes from the source, I can have them in absolute-perfect quality that bests any and all downloadable versions available over the internet. In addtion, it has that "official" feel when it's sitting right next to my other albums. I don't know if I'd want this to subsequently be available on iTunes. I think I'd rather get the physical copy and burn it so I have it both ways. I don't really care for those albums anyways, the only songs I bought didigitally were singles, the others I have on iTunes are burned albums. On the short side, I'm a closet brony, so I guess that defeats that purpose. >.>

Either way, I cannot stand the fact that there isn't one of these out yet. The music is way more than deserving of getting this treatment. I want the scores to be on the CD, as well as the instrumental versions of the songs (they might be able to get rid of the voice bleedings on the channel). I don't care if it means there'll be 50 tracks, or 5 discs, I just want this to happen.

Wait, we have to put our street address, etc. in there? Ugh.... ;-; I wanna do this so bad but...ugh. :c

I signed, but, faked my address. I didn't want to risk anything, but, I signed. I cant wait for the cds to release. Once they do, I am purchasing one with my money, and hiding it so well, I am pretty sure I wont be able to find it. I will though. I cant wait to listen to it with my Beats. Oh, that will be the most awesome thing. Even watching and listening to the show was good with my headphones in not the best sound quality was sounding awesome. I will die when I get to listen to it in 5:1 sound.
