A wee dilemma on my hooves

Greetings fellow Bronies and Pega-sisters.

I have a wee dilemma on my hooves. I have a boyfriend who isn't a brony, which in and of itself is fine but I found out he hasn't even tried watching a single episode. I ended up talking him into watching My Little Pony with me, but he only agreed to watch 5 episodes after which he is allowed to make up his mind. No matter what he chooses is fine with me, but I do kind of hope he would like it. That is why I'm going to cut a teensy weensy corner (not cheat oh no not at all), and not show him the show from the beginning. Of course The Mare In The Moon 1 & 2 will be on the list, but I was never a big fan of The Ticket Master or Applebucking Season.

I was going to choose 5 episodes that could really catch his interest, and show him that the show really is awesome! But the dilemma is; I have no idea which 5 episodes. I of course have my favourite episodes, but I am afraid they might be a bit too nampy pampy for a first time watcher. So that is why I am turning to you. Which episodes are the ones you like the best? Which episodes mean something very special to you? What is the most exciting episode according to you?

Oh I dearly hope you can help me Bronies, as I am very much in doubt of which episodes to choose to show him. If he ends up liking the show, there might just be one more joining the herd.

Thank thee and fare thee well.

Sincerely

Whisper the female Brony.

Show him Party of One. It has a lot of humor in it, besides you get to see Pinkie zoned out. :P

How about Sonic Rainboom? That episode has always been a fan favorite due to Dash's awesomeness.

If there's still time, I'd get him to watch the first two episodes of season 2. Discord has always been a great villain, and I'm sure anyone can find some kind of liking to him.

Simple! Go for the episodes that least portray the girly stereotypes! That would be the first and second episodes of season one, Season 2 premiere and season 2 Finale. He doesn't know that this is six episodes so just make the season 2 finale seem like a single episode!

The mind of the host will desperately try to create memories where none exist. Simple right?

My suggestions, might not limit them to 5 though

The Return of Harmony

Lesson Zero

Read it and Weep

Party of One

Luna Eclipsed

It's about time

Hurricane Fluttershy

A Canterlot Wedding (maybe)

Those would be my suggestions. My last advice though is not to get disappointed or angry if he doesn't love it. Everyone has their own tastes and all, and if he doesn't like it as much as you do then you should just accept it. You probably don't absolutely love everything he does either (maybe you do, I don't know)

Good luck, hope I could help

Well, as much as I have a feeling after the series premier he will probably be hooked on it, i'd have to say after the series premier I'd chose something like dragonshy as the next one, I dunno I always liked dragonshy, but thats just me :P. I would say suited for success, but that might be a bit much for a first timer. And I think winter wrap up will be a good one(Expecially because of how fregin catchy the song is..)

The last one would be hard for me, you could try to win him over with cuteness using cutie mark chronicles. Or you could show him the awesomeness of Sonic Rainboom. Or even win him over with pinkies freakout in party of one.

Sorry I have a hard time choosing especially since the episodes are all so awesome :P.

Good luck btw :)

Show him these episodes in this order:

- Friendship is Magic Part 1 + 2

- Luna Eclipsed

- A Royal Canterlot wedding Part 1 + 2

And if you can convice him to watch 2 more episodes, show him:

- Hurricane Fluttershy

- A Friend in Deed

Most bronies are in agreement that it's best not to start with the pilot episodes. Applebuck Season is one of my favorites and I believe it's a good starting episode. Many will recommend Lesson Zero as their #1 introductory episode. I'm also a big fan of A Bird in the Hoof and Putting Your Hoof Down. My favorite episode of all is possibly The Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000, though his enjoyment of that might be dependant on his knowledge and appreciation of The Music Man and similar works.

The best episodes would really depend on his personality. He sounds like a reasonable guy for giving it five episodes to grab his interest. That's similar to my rule for new shows and more than most people are willing to allow. I hope it works out.

Thank you for the help :) I probably would not be too bummed out if he will not like it. I just want him to at least watch the show before making up his mind. But hooves crossed that he will not completely dismiss the show however it turns out. I am still going to have Love is in Bloom playing at my Wedding if someone ever ends up convincing me marriage is cool.

Oh thank you for the suggestions everypony ^^

I had completely forgotten about Discord, but he is awesome so he is ending up on the list. Maybe even pushing Nightmare Moon off the list.

Shoot, how did I neglect Cider Squeezy? It's even one of my favorite episodes. That should have been on my list too. Listen to Artemis OP!

If he's into absurd humor, I would recommend Feeling Pinkie Keen (easily one of my favorite episodes). Winter Wrap-Up is also a really good introductory episode as well, though he might get turned off by the singing (I'm just saying this because I was almost turned off by the laughing song in episode 2).

I would also suggest that the fifth one be Return of Harmony, but only part 1. The reasoning for this is that it will be entirely up to him if he wants to resolve this story arc. I'll admit though, it is kind of a dirty trick...

Lesson Zero or Crystal Empire, those are my two favorites. And maybe after that Too Many Pinkie Pies? But I think Lesson Zero is a must!

Over a Barrel has a lot of action, and its only song is presented more as a joke. Even the characters made fun of it. Buffalo Chief's best line: "Sheriff and I have reached an agreement. That was the worst thing we've ever seen."

I know, and it's been stated here, that many don't think the pilots are a good place to start, but I've found they set up my suggestions, which are:

- Frienship is Magic 1&2

- A Canterlot Wedding 1&2

- The Crystal Empire 1&2

These are the ones that caught me the most, and working with a limited number of episodes I figured these would work best. I know he said 5 eps, but hopefully he'll be hooked enough it won't matter.

It depends on what he looks for in a show the most. Do you want to showcase/focus on showing him the humor of the show, or the character development, or...? The show as a whole hits on all of these aspects. Episodes out of context will emphasize one element more than another. You being a brony/pegasister, you will know which ones focus more on what.

My personal recommendation on only five episodes, which give a pretty accurate depiction of the series?

Here they are:

Friendship Is Magic, part 1 and 2 (too bad he can't count them as one, since they are a must to explain everything)

Dragonshy

Bridle Gossip

The Best Night Ever

I did not choose these based on which are my favorites (most of these are not in my personal top 5). I chose them partly because they all have all of the mane six interacting with each other. True, Dragonshy has a bit of a focus on Fluttershy, yet not nearly as much as the average (what I like to call) "spotlight" episodes.

It is unwise to pick from the all-time-best because then if he picks up the show, he doesn't have them to anticipate and get blown away by. That is why this list lacks any season 2 episodes.

I hope this helps in some way. I am glad you are not trying to militantly convert him. It would be nice though if the show ends up giving him joy too.

I'd say, Friendship is Magic parts 1 and 2, than maybe party of one? Crazy is always good. :3 But The Return of Harmony parts 1 and 2 are a must. Two of the least girly fru-fru nonsensical episodes there are! I even got my sister to like those two, but I find that after a bit of not watching any episodes, a non-brony's mind starts to attack itself, saying that it really actually does hate the show. Which is what happened to my sister. :/

to make it quick simple, and with a little bit of hassle, just show him all the season premiere and finale specials except for the best day ever, now, if he enjoy to watch cartoons, then he would find interesting these episodes because there's a villain and a storyline.
