books The Book Thread

I need to finish the Dune series. I have only read the first 3 books of the original series, plus two of the prequels.

I've only ever read the very first one and I really loved it. How do the books after it compare?

The second book is about the start of Paul's jihad. He chose to become a monster to avoid an even worse future. It introduces his children. The third book is about his children. Paul is presumed dead, and someone is trying to get rid of the heirs to the throne. Like Paul they flee into the desert. In the end the daughter must become the ruler, while the son lets the spice change him to become one with the planet and the worms. Also, Paul's sister goes crazy.

That is all I have read of the original series. I read a couple of prequel books about the machine war. It explains how things became like they are in Dune. It explains how organizations like the Bene Gesserits and the Mentats began, showed the ancestors of Atreides and Harkonen, and explained how the Fremen came to Arakis.

Doesn't really matter, you can't exclude any of those things without possibly excluding another. Besides, my input is as valid as the others, even if you have heard it a thousand times already. ;)

I'm so glad my mom used to be an avid Trek fan. Even though we have mostly TOS-era books and a few TNG ones, that still makes a snitload of Star Trek. ;)

Just finished reading Renegade and started Trek To Madworld. And there's First Frontier, which I've read more than half a dozen times cuz - ZOMG DINOSAURS HOLY FRICK.

Currently going through three books. When Will Jesus Bring The Pork Chops, which is a good book for a collection of jokes, Last Words, the autobiography of George Carlin, and Silence of the Lambs, for class.

I'm reading "SKRÄCK" (Swedish for "Horror" Yes the name of the book is horror.) and it's awesome :)

It's about a dude who talks about films he have watched and what he thought about them. Also books he have read and other stuff. (I love horror)

Reading the French translation of Greatest Mysteries of the Unexplained by Doncaster and Holland.

It's a collection of some of the biggest mysteries; unexplained disappearances, paranormal and spiritual/psychic phenomena/people, ancient monuments that theoretically shouldn't exist... Fascinating stuff.
