Am I the only person here who's not a fan of Twilight Sparkle?

I love Twilight, even though she's not my favorite I'm still a pretty big fan of her, as I am with the rest of the mane 6(except much more so for Rarity, and a little less so for Rainbow Dash ).

And me. And DoctorXFizzle.

I dunno about that, I don't think most people are too keen on Trixie, she'll very infamous.

A lot of people I've talked to on the subject seem to quite like her. But yea, she is very infamous. And how could we all forget the Fizzle vs Tom thingy?

I think its just that shes had so much screentime and episodes revealing things about her character that people generally just tend to have a naturally high liking towards her. It may be that she also doesn't really have any character traits that are super annoying to most people.

 

So unlike people who sometimes hate how overly shy and adorable Fluttershy is, How Pinkie is apparently annoying at points, how Rarity can be so sassy and a diva, how Rainbow can be overconfident, And how Applejack can be a kinda low depth character.(Note these are not my personal opinions at all, but some of the common faults that people who dislike these characters normally reference.) While Twilight doesn't have anything that ever really sticks out to most people, not saying that nobody will dislike anything about her, they're just not I guess as blatant traits that show that people could dislike heavily, they're a bit more specified to certainly people I guess, and a bit more hidden.

 

It may also be due to her status as more or less the Mane protagonist, I know the others are just as important, but she does have alot of focus as her being the Mane Character for the show, Especially in Season 1.

 

Also Twilight in my opinion doesn't have a very strong opposite character of the Mane 6, alot of the time people who like Applejack don't like Rarity that much, or stuff like Rainbow Dash fans and Rarity fans conflicting due to their personalities being opposite, while Twilight doesn't really have that problem.

 

But theres I see no reason why you have to think that nopony could dislike Twilight or anything the most. Hopefully my points make sense though, and aren't to rambly by the way...

Well, depends on what you mean by fan of Twilight. I'm a massive Twilight fan, and I love seeing all of her antics. It's been a lot of fun watching her develop and she's certainly one of my favorite things about MLP. I generally like the rest of the Mane Six better, but I don't feel like that disqualifies me from being a Twilight fan. She's pretty freaking amazing in her own right.

Its not impossible to like both of them, Its just the opposite personalities cause conflict sometimes between some of the fans. Thats not true for everypony because everypony is different.

 

That is just the thing that you'd expect to happen because depending on if someone likes Rainbow Dash for her personality then they might not like Rarities personality seeing as it is opposite, thats not to say that it is impossible because theres always going to be people who don't follow the statistics and normals, thats why generalizing doesn't work all the time, because not everyone is the same. I'm just saying that technically speaking that is a common occurrence.

You speak as if personalities are opposite points on a wheel or something, when in reality they are made of thousands of points on thousands of wheels (and even that is simplifying immensely, lets be honest, nobody truly understands human personality). Rarity and RD have personality points that conflict, but you can like RD for say these five points and like rarity for these four, completely different non conflicting personality points, and again, I am probably simplifying horribly

While Twilight is my favorite of the mane six, I gotta say she's pretty Mary Sue-ish compared to the other five. Given the fact that her element doesn't directly affect her personality, she seems more complex than the others which I agree can be frowned upon to a certain degree.

I guess some people aren't big Twilight fans because they don't identify with her. But I do, a lot. Educated, compulsive, liking books more than friends, etc. She's a lot like me. Plus she has a nice design.

 

I'm hoping to see her character mature a bit more, though. I want the show to deal with her issues for a change, instead of making a joke out of them like they did in Lesson Zero.

I completely agree. From the very beginning I wasn't a huge fan of Twilight but my (now ex) boyfriend loved her...I've always been a fan of Rarity honestly. Even if it was just for her hair...I know my current boyfriend likes rarity now too, but I've always been a fan of hers. I think the obsession with Twilight just came from her being the most relate-able pony as she was adjusting to Ponyville. Now that she's been there for a while and the personalities of the other ponies have developed that'll probably start to go away and the favoritism to a certain pony will spread out evenly amongst the mane 6.

Thats not to say that someone can't like both, they're just kinda opposites in my mind, your one or the other, or something different.

 

Same sorta thing with AJ and Rarity applies. Ones not afraid to get dirty, one would never get a hoof dirty under normal circumstances.

 

Of course peoples personalty's are comprised of many many different traits, I only scratch the surface on them by mentioning the most predominant ones in RD, and Rarity. And how they react to each other.

 

Of course people may love different ones from each of the two's pools of plenty of traits and personalities, But the ones that stick out the most tend to conflict with each other in most cases.

Yeah I know, I'm just being general for the sake of simplicity and lack of a better word that comes to mind. They're just the first words I could think of to try and describe them, but the truth is their personalities are much to deep to describe in such simplicity, its really just to try and show what I mean without spending forever rambling on about it.(Which is kinda happening a bit regardless but ya know .)

My favorite main 6 pony is Rainbow Dash.    My least favorite main 6 pony is probably Rarity.  I don't absolutely LOVE Twilight Sparkle, but I have more in common with her than most of the other ponies.  I feel like she's a ponified me in MOST ways, so I've actually cosplayed her before.  I'd love to cosplay as RD, but I just don't have the body type to (in my opinion) accurately portray her.  I've also cosplayed as Applejack.

Yes so very true. For example I like to play Pokemon which is a bit geeky. But I also play guitar and listen to some br00tal ass music. And on top of that I tend to be a nice guy at times. So I'm a mix of several things.

I really like Twilight, but that's mostly because I can relate to her - I could see why someone might not like her.  A lot of people find workaholics insufferable, and Twilight is a workaholic to a degree so extreme it could be classified as a mental disorder in psychological profiling.

Aydanno, I just like her because I'm massively introverted, but try to put myself out there, much like she does.  I suppose she stands to show it's not impossible to be introverted but to have close friends and fun with other people, and I appreciate that.

But she's not my favourite pony.  Spitfire and Rainbow Dash are my favourites.  Rainbow Dash because she's such an awesomely layered and nuanced character, and Spitfire because she's Rainbow's dream incarnate and the two make an adorable ship

Twilight was originally my favorite character in the show when I first started watching it. However, Rainbow Dash quickly took her place. I like every single one of the mane six, and I don't see why people hate certain characters.

She is like Leonardo from TMNT, might not be the favorite turtle out of the bunch. The most popular one last time I checked was Michaelangelo. My favorite pony is Rainbow Dash and Twilight is ranked 5th in my top ten. Twilight has her faults. But she is a good leader and keeps her friends intact when ever problems strike. Yeah she might have a bad case of OCD. She also may be socially awkward in the first two episodes. But all those issues aside she still has good merits that make up a good leader. I think the only problem is that Hasbro isn't marketing Twilight in a clever way. Rainbow Dash is the face of MLP FIS. Or it might be Fluttershy. Rainbow Dash is marketed in the show as a tough, can do attitude, I am number 1 and the fastest thing alive pony. I personally think Rainbow Dash was inspired by sonic the hedgehog. I know she was really inspired by Firefly from G1. But I am talking about Rainbow's speed being inspired from sonic. So Hasbro needs to find a gimmick for Twilight. Because out of all the ponies. I think Rainbow Dash is the only pony with a marketing gimmick. Someone could correct me if I'm wrong.

I think Pinkie Pie is the most marketed pony since she's a crazy party animal and the "fun" pony. Just look up all the Pinkie Pie merch on sale, they have everything from trains to walkie-talkies.
