Will Twilight's transition to alicorn princess be permanent?

Eh anythings possible really, I don't exclude anything for sure really, I mean anything could happen. Expect the unexpected my friend.

But on the same basis be prepared for it to stay permanent, because really it could go either way.

 

I doubt they wanted to spoil things though, so thats probably the reason, which could be the reason that they're doing what they're doing now, but idk its possible either way like I said, we just have to wait and see.

 

I don't know how much our rants and complaining are actually going to do anything though, I imagine the script for S4 has been in the works for a while now, its been confirmed that theres a S4 for a while I believe, so the fact that the premier might already be set in stone is possible, which means the complaining might actually not do anything, who knows really.

 

Like I've said though, anythings possible. I'm personally fine with it either way, I don't really care that much, I'm pretty indifferent to this whole thing, I'll still watch the show regardless, but I'm not much of a critical person, and its just my opinions anyways so feel free to have your own, long as you respect mine .

Well, I'd rather just them keep everything secret for the sake of suspense really , but I think it still has been stated that she will stay, somewheres on Twitter couple times.

 

But like I said anything can happy, and again I'm pretty indifferent as I can see pros on both sides.

I think this more or less hit the nail on the head.

 

Just because some of the show's staff make themselves available to the fans via social media does not give them blanket authorization to reveal things about the show. Instead of expecting them to spill the beans about anything and everything when prompted by a random joe schmoe on the internet, perhaps we should instead be thanking them for being willing to communicate and engage with us, as a collective fandom, directly at all?

But, we all know that the writers did not mean to give us sneak peeks and many revealings before the episode even aired. I say that we should definitely thank them even if, people are just thinking that this was the end of the fandom as we know it. Well, what else can I do? In the real-world, I have no friends, and my only substitutes are those My Little Pony Funrise plush-dolls I sleep with, four of which I already have, and Rarity and Applejack I've yet to collect! I'm always locking myself in my bedroom, with the only windows to the outside world being this laptop I'm using right now, and the television I watch the news on!

 

Well, first off, stop doing that. I mean locking yourself in your bedroom with only a laptop and a tv set. Go outside. Go to the library (like Twilight!) and find some books to read. Pick something randomly off the shelf just to try something new. If you can't do random, I recommend some 1950's-60's sci-fi because they're good for a laugh now.

Back before Princess Twilicorn was officially confirmed, Tara Strong and Meghan McCarthy were constantly denying that it will happen, despite a lot of people generating rumors that they were lying.

 

I just hope they're simply trolling with us again, like they did when they denied that Twilicorn is not going to happen. Eventually, the writers are going to cave-in to our desire to see Twilight as a unicorn and an equal to her friends, rather than some overpowered Mary Sue who no longer needs her friends. And when that happens, they'll have the S4 premiere return Twilight into a unicorn by the end. The reason they aren't confirming or denying this is simply to avoid spoilers, and because of the Non-Disclosure Agreement.

 

I mean, they lied to us about Princess Twilicorn not happening just to avoid spoilers, so surely they're lying to us about a permanent Princess Twilicorn again. Right?

I don't think her transformation will stick. She looked super uncomfortable after she got her wings, and I interpreted that whole "everything will be alright" line as her trying to convince herself of something that she really isn't entirely okay with.

All that said, I would like to she her stay an alicorn. I think that there is a lot of potential development they can explore with that.

Sacrificing wings/royalty for friends/the greater good is a much more acceptable retcon than: "It was all a dream, LOL!!!!!"

Honestly, I want Twilight to keep her wings. If they had her need to give them up to save her friends, I wouldn't like it that much, but that them's the breaks and I'd accept it. If they pulled an "Oh Spike, I just had the weirdest dream." I would actually become very angry at the writers for being lazy in their work!

I was thinking that it could be a possibility that in Season 4. Twilight wakes up and it happens to be all just one big dream she had. This could be a way for the show to revert Twilight back to a unicorn (if that is what they want to do anyway).

Since this thread provides a theory for Twilight becoming an alicorn being revealed to be a temporary event, I have merged it with the Permanent / Temporary thread. Unfortunately, this has also meant that I had to remove your poll.

 

I believe she's in a coma. Megan McCarthy said that the premier of season 4 will continue where we left off at season 3. At the last part of the premier, Twilight's gonna wake up WITHOUT wings and she's in Ponyville hospital. The doctors are going to say that the cutie mark spell knocked her out, and she's been in a coma for a couple of months.

 

That's just my personal thought.

Weirdly enough, I have the total opposite opinion! I think that the wings are going to be permanent, but I'd personally like her to go back to being a unicorn. "Everything is going to be just fine," sounded more like a message to the bronies. (But it didn't make me feel reassured since I hated the finale, but hey ho)

 

I agree that there's potential for development, but I still don't think it's the direction they should have taken. I'd have been much happier if the coronation was an end of series event, and before it happened Twilight had managed to help Rainbow become a wonderbolt, help the CMC get their cutie marks etc etc, and have her friends tell her how much they're grateful and how much she deserves to be a princess.

 

At the moment, it kind of leaves it at a weird place for me. Twilight's already achieved her destiny, and the rank of princess is the highest in all of Equestria. From now on, anything she learns about friendship would seem a bit superfluous. Like an RPG character with maxed out stats finding slightly better items, progress is virtually pointless. If every Twilight-focused episode is about 'royal duties' then I'm pretty much going to switch off since I really couldn't care less.

Before I begin, I will say that as far as whether I like Twilicorn or not, well it depends.  There are ways that I know of off the top of my head that they could make it work for the long term.  But they'd have to tread carefully to avoid a Son Goku scenario (one character becomes omnipotent and overshadows everyone else as a result).  DBZ resolved this issue by making Goku arrive fashionably late to nearly every battle, but it only worked for a short while.  Once he got his Instant Transmission technique, they couldn't use that crutch ever again.  And Twilight can already teleport, so that isn't a viable option.  This issue is something that not many shows can handle well, and I truly believe that maintaining this status quo might test the capabilities of the writers in ways never thought possible.

 

 

So the big question.  Do I think this will be permanent?  Well, yeah.  I do.  This may not be the answer everyone wants to hear, but here's the thing.  Hasbro has started an entire line of toys based on the Twilicorn concept.  They wouldn't sink that kind of money into this if it was going to be temporary.  And honestly, I think it might be more offputting for them to suddenly reverse this right after doing it, for any reason.  If they did that, then that means the whole thing was just a tease.  Plus, I have no idea how they'd even go about doing that outside of it 'being a dream' (the ultimate cop-out ending).  And again, that would be even more offputting.

 

What interests me more is that her cutie mark now has a big star and six stars, where before it had a big star and five stars.  I wonder if this is hinting at the possibility of a seventh Element of Harmony...  If that's the case, then perhaps the mane 6 are going to meet a seventh pony in Season 4.

For me, Hell no. By the time the two-part Season Four premiere comes out, it's going to be a save-the-world story like previous season premieres, except this time it'll have Twilight sacrifice her wings and princesshood to save her friends from whatever evil threat the writers pit her against.

 

Besides, if you're going to turn Twilight into a princess, you might as well turn Rarity into a world-famous fashion designer, and Rainbow Dash into a Wonderbolt, while making both those characters leave each other and their other friends behind to do so. If Twilight's gonna break up with the Mane Six, the rest might as well do so, too... except maybe Fluttershy, Applejack, and Pinkie, because they'll probably stay in Ponyville for their own reasons (animals, farm-life, and "hey, why not", respectively).

 

And yes, I'm still struggling to get over the shock of seeing Twilight become a princess. And yes, I'd rather the humanized ponies from Equestria Girls, than Princess Twilight, because at the very least the former doesn't break continuity like the latter.

I have no idea if Twlight's transition will be permanent but I do know that she has earned it and deserves it rightfully so. Now, reading some of these posts have got me concerned for the longevity of the show; i,e. Ponies equality formula no longer applies for example: Twlight = Princess/Applejack = Farm tender? I can see the problem if its left undealt with: Rainbow Dash (eventually) = Wonderbolt/Fluttershy = Veterinarian of sorts? It goes on and on if you're that serious about the series but Hasbro and DhX Media have made it this far I wouldn't doubt them now. Remember, even if you don't care for the idea or the character remember the source and why. Love and tolerate every pony! <3
