To be honest, I'm not too fond with Twilight being an alicorn. I miss the old unicorn Twilight. The thought of her being a princess actually kind of ruins the show for me. Now, I understand that it shouldn't be that big of a deal, but I just can't wait to see what's in store for the next episodes and seasons to come. Seriously, this has got me thinking of what will become of the Mane 6, only time will tell. Now, back to the original question. What has happened happened, what will happen will happen, I don't see Twilight's wings going bye-bye any time soon. If this is what the script says, then they might as well stick with it. Otherwise, Twilight getting new wings would be pointless nonsense, and I hate pointless nonsense when it comes to a show. That is my opinion, her wings are staying, whether we like it or not.

Even Celestia said that she'll never be the same Unicorn student that she used to be. If that's not enough canon proof that it'll be permanent for you, I dunno what is :/

Well, all though some of us may not like it, i doubt she'll turn back into a unicorn considering the massive song and dance in the season finale.

I think there is a small catch to the Alicorn thing, it might be explained in season 4, but I think it's temporary, we will just have to wait and see, after all the season 3 finale was pretty good and I think we should be on the lookout for what will happen.

Well I think season 4 will end up being a season where everyone eventually earns there dreams and soon enough be who they all wanted to be, Twilight, famous princess who is known for her brightness, Rainbow Dash, becomes a wonderbolt, Rarity, gets offered a job offer on being a fashion design worker, Fluttershy, owning a zoo or something, Applejack, getting hooked up with a famous food business, Pinkie, becomes a part hostess (What I couldn't think of anything...)

Then later on Celestia tells the main 6 about the humans and banish them to make friendship in the earth or something similar and then 'Equestria girls starts'. After 2 seasons or something depending on the success they go back to Equestria and decide to all live with each over again and then 'My little pony ...........' starts.

Opinions???

Permanent it seems, and I don't really like it. They're already getting a new unicorn to replace her so that there isn't only one unicorn in the mane six now.

Season four will also have a lot of episodes centered around her too, dash teaching her how to fly and such. And that's another thing i'm not entirely looking forward to.

I doubt this is temporary because Princess Celestia has already declared Twilight her equal. It would be cheesy and downright racist if Twilight lost her wings that Princess Celestia would start treating her like a student again.

If
they see how it's pissing off a sizeable portion of the Brony fanbase,
I imagine that they'd find a way to undo it.  I hope they do.

First if the Twilicorn products aren't selling well. That's what's important to Hasbro.

But again, the two-part S4 premiere might be another save-the-world story, where Twilight sacrifices her wings and princesshood to save her friends. After all, that would be selfless, because sometimes friends are more important than titles, and Twilight would've been considered selfish had she not sacrificed her wings and princesshood to save her friends. This has been posted on another topic but it deserves its place here as well. The writers had a panel at Las Pegasus where they discussed Season 4. There is a quick summary on Reddit: http://www.reddit.com/r/mylittlepony/comments/191wgk/highlights_from_the_writers_panel_at_las_pegasus/

Alicorn Twilight has introduced no difficulties in the writing. All the answers to our questions will be revealed in season 4's two-part opening. All the relationships are still the same and will get deeper. Don't worry.

Sorry but I guess this is pretty ending the debate as the writers themselves say that she has been included in Season 4 episodes, so her transition will last some amount of time, probably all of S4.

I don't think that there's any doubt that Twilicorn will appear in season 4, the question has always been how long.

But I find *another* passage from that Reddit summary to be *very* interesting and even a little reassuring.

  • How will you balance out Twilicorn with the other ponies? "You will find out." -Meghan

I've always been against the idea of Twilicorn, one of the reasons for which is that it makes her in some ways "superior" to her friends.  This quote suggests that they are aware of the lack of balance, and the rest of the elements will retain their prominence in the show.

I'm hoping temporary and we'll see some awesome series finale where Twilight will pull the same stunt in the movie Hercules where she gives up her powers to stay with her friends, aging alongside them even though she is a powerful caster.

Realistically, I don't see it happening and it will be permanent.  Hasbro can quite easily sell Twilight Princess toys if she is still a princess and kids equate it to the show with her "regular old unicorn" self being before she ascended to that of an alicorn.  I doubt Hasbro thinks the same of the reverse if Twilight abdicates her power.

I still want to see the idea of Chrysalis returning, taking Discords power for herself, changing the world into the Changling Empire, and Twilight saves Chrysalis by giving the changling queen her princess/alicorn hood.  The darkness surrounding Chrysalis disappears and it's revealed that she's the lost relative of Celestia and Luna with the corruption around the pony being the same that surrounded Luna which turned her into Nightmare Moon.

In honesty, I do believe several of notions/idea some have brought up where Twilight's importance within the Mane6 is elevated now that she is a princess.  Though she can joke around about things, she's a princess right now which carries significant weight to it and eclipses the others who say "Hey i'm a wonderbolt" or "I'm a promising fashionista."  Despite Twilight being Celestia's Protege, her status as student was important, but not so important that it eclipsed the others.

How so? By finding a way to revert Twilight back into a unicorn without making it look like a cheap cop-out? I hope so, because Rarity would've become the only member of the Mane Six without a same-species counterpart like the others, and in-turn make her very lonely. I mean, it's bad enough that she never received her own episode for Season Three. Why make it worse with Twilicorn?

Also, I know that there are signs that Princess Twilicorn will be temporary, including:

1. Twilight will remain a unicorn for the comics.

2. Human Twilight will also remain as normal as her humanized friends in Equestria Girls.

3. There is a possibility that Hasbro might still continue selling wingless Twilight figurines.

While the first two are non-canon, I believe that the writers will change Twilight back into a unicorn to reflect all three of those aforementioned signs. And besides, I doubt there's a way they'll keep Twilight true to herself while keeping her a princess. The only way they could do this is if they remove her wings, the symbols of her title, and shrink her back to the same size as her friends. And, to have Twilight give up her title and wings, she'd either have to sacrifice them to save Equestria, or resign after realizing that royalty is no replacement for her friends.

if twlight loses her princess-hood,the storyline may change into twlight being evil...but thats unlikely because she is the main character.so i want to see your ideas if you think twlight will lose her princess-hood..

Well maybe, it could happen.. Maybe in the final episodes of season 4. She might find it being too hard to be a princess. Although i honestly don't really care, princess or not she is still Twilight Sparkle..

Maybe she will have to give it up too save her friends from something. Like: "you would give up your princess-hood to save your friends" and someone wouldn't understand it.. Then it would be explained that friendship is more important to her then the princess stuff.

Still i doubt that she would loose her princess-hood, im just going to trust the writers and see what happens.. But still she could end up loosing it.. It would actually be a pretty epic final, if she would have to give up being a princess too save her friends.. Although we know that it isn't going to happen, we already know that Lauren Faust wanted Twilight to become Celestia's successor.. So it more likely that she will continue being a princess.

Well it's been stated that the finale was part 1 of a 3 part story arc, so it's certainly plausible that something happens in the end that causes her to lose them.  Maybe she's forced somehow to give it up to save her friends.  It could be a good lesson too, about creating your own destiny and so forth.

I think it could happen somehow, someway. Don't really mind her as an alicorn myself but I could see her being a unicorrn again if something happens like if she screws up(unlikely unless it's a dream sequence) or she just doesn't want to be a princess anymore(more likely) or something.

She's going to lose her horn and become a pegasus then go on her way to try to regain alicorn status, get her alicorn look again, then lose both horn and wings this time and have to try and regain them again. This way the series can have more seasons and just agitate us with an overused plot device.

I believe she will, through one of three means:

1. She resigns from princesshood after either being separated from her friends for so long, or because of her incompetence in running an entire kingdom.

2. She gets usurped by her friends after being corrupted by power.

3. She saves her friends by sacrificing her wings and princesshood.

As much as I enjoy the concept of rising to leadership status as the next person, I don't think Twilight deserved it, because she's one of the Mane Six, not some Mary Sue politician who has to determine the fate of her entire kingdom.

And besides, how the hell do you keep Twilight true to herself while remaining a princess? I mean, she goes back to her library in Ponyville, and in-turn her friends, and she would abandon Equestria. But, she stays strapped on her throne determining policy, and it would undermine both Twilight's character, as well as the core essence of the show itself.

It's Hasbro. It's MLP. Questionable decisions are inevitable. Obvious redactions are a given.

They DID just do this stunt to peddle a toy, after all.

Young, Incredible, Free, and Fly. That's how Veronica rolls.

If that's the case, they at least are taking awareness to how the fans are reacting to the whole thing.

though I personally don't see how they can retain balance in the show while keeping Twilight an Alicorn, especially considering what Celestia, Luna, and Cadance are capable of as Alicorns, but I'm open to whatever surprise the dev team has in store for us.

But the apparent leaked storyboard I found in the 'Season 4 Preview & Info' topic does suggest they might be leaning toward Twilight's Alicorn status being temporary, which might be an easier way to go and might make more sense.

Why don't we ever see humans in Equestria?

they're hiding, the ponies stole all their clothes.

I think that she will lose the wings, but not right out of the gate. Im thinking that they will have Twilight Alicorn all through season 4, and that the season finale will be where she reverts to normal by force, or willingly in a sacrificial fashion. At least thats my theory

1. The comics are apparently set between seasons 2 and 3. I've not read them, but lots of people have pointed this out to me, which would mean that the comics are still within the realms of canon even if she's a unicorn.

2. Nope! The new picture for Equestria Girls shows humanized Twilight with a big ol' set of wings. Strike two.

3. I don't quite see how this would prompt them to revert Twilight back.

From the looks of things... I really don't see how they're going to switch Twilight back. Lauren Faust has made it clear that she wanted Twilight to become Celestia's successor. Also, if Twilight was no longer a princess, what would her destiny be? She never seemed to know what it was in the first place. I genuinely can't see why they'd change this after the entirety of season 3 (and arguably the entire series so far) was leading directly to Twilight's coronation.

I don't have the link to hand, but I'm pretty sure one of the writers said something about the role of 'princess' being very different from how it is percieved in the real world, and that Twilight can still retain her title without changing her life in any big way. She can still learn about friendship, since Celestia made it clear that this was extremely important and the reason she even became a princess in the first place.

My guess is that Twilight will just end up studying new things to do with being a princess, and the show will carry on much like it has before. All we have at the moment is the fact that there's no official, explicit remark about Twilicorn being absolutely permanent. (That, and random online people with 'inside knowledge' that she'll be turning back)

Now... I personally don't like this idea and would have preferred it if Twilicorn had never happened, but for them to turn back now (considering that the concept for the S3 finale was written in 2011) would seem ridiculous in my eyes. Sure, a lesson about 'giving things up for your friends' would be in the spirit of the show, but if she gets to stay in Ponyville anyway, what would she be giving up? Nothing. My prediction is that Twilight will eventually become a fully fledged princess that rules part of Equestria, but probably not until the series finale where the cast all achieve their life-long dreams. Again, this is pretty much what Faust said in the BronyDoc interview.

So I guess all I'm saying is... don't get your hopes up, because the number of straws to grasp on are dwindling by the day.
