The pros (and by pros, I mean TTC and TSMB2) refer to it as "black" because the music sheets would be black from all of the ink.

CD drives only read CDs, DVD drives read both CDs and DVDs, BD drives (should) read Blu-Rays, DVDs, and CDs.

 

Readers only read, writers both read and write.
