A theory on Alicorns

Well, it's a basic theory, but ponies tend to not want to base these sorts of things on scientific phenomenon...

 

I like a better theory like a "Star Foal," like legends of a foal falling out of the sky having such great ability... I don't remember where I got such a thing from, but it sounds epic so I'll stay to it.

Well it's pretty much confirmed that the alicorns live forever, or at least for a very long time, since Celestia banished Luna a thousand years ago and they're both still alive and look young. Knowing that, we can't really say that earth ponies unicorns and pegasi came from alicorns because, since alicorns are immortal, lots pegasi/unicorn/earth predecessors would probably still be here. i also doubt that normal ponies could give birth to alicorns, look at the cakes, even having the available genes for unicorns and pegasi, no alicorns resulted. plus if it were a rare mutation i think there would be more of them than just celestia and luna. i think the alicorns have been around before all other kinds of ponies, but perhaps they can only produce limited alicorn offspring, meaning there may only be a few alicorns ever in existence.

This doesn't necessarily have to do with Alicorn origins, but I've noticed that Alicorns don't have traditional pony names: "Celestia", "Luna", "Cadence", and "Leon" are all singular, 'normal' names. To me, this sets the Alicorns further apart from the other races, especially when you consider that Alicorns are slightly larger in stature, possess a longer lifespan, and wield superior magical abilities than any of the other three.

We all know the famous Princesses, Celestia and Luna (and Cadence too, of course!). We also know Feld0. But how actually does a pony become an alicorn? Do they have to be royalty? Are they ponies who's mother and father were a unicorn and pegasus?

Alacorns were a species no product of cross breeding, they likely lived in a diffrent area to the unicorns earthpony and pegasi and stumbled across them when equestria was formed.

 

there is just one issue i have with alacorns

Luna's age over 1000

Celestia's age Over 1000

Candice's age likely 5-10 years older then Twilight so if we are that twilight is aged between 18-20 the Candice is 23- 30 years old

also who are Candice's parents because they arn't shown at the wedding and Celestia is only her aunt same with Luna so they would have to have other Brothers and Sisters.

I assume alicorns aren't a seperate species, but born into the pony society, however, they are very rare, so that one or two each thousand year is not improbable.

I theorize that if a Unicorn is powerful enough, they can cast a spell that turns them into an Alicorn permanently.

There's three different possibilities I believe it to be:

 

1. Alicorns are born through genetic chance and or mutation from inter-species breeding

 

2. Alicorns are unicorns/pegesai at first and based on their ability and talents they become chosen to become the next rule and the title is passed on to them, at this point they grow the appendages that they are missing and gain immortality until it becomes time to pass on the title to the next worthy unicorn/pegasus.

 

3. Alicorns are a race of it's own which has dwindled over vast amounts of time, they are still powerful beings, but because they have to rule their countries and for fill magical duties, they have no time to procreate and bear child.

Cadence comes from the crystal kingdom (this is not confirmed totaly but fits with g1-3 and is hinted at by s3 spoilers.

 

So i exspect that s3 will tell us more of her orogins in the crystal kingdom episodes.
