Do you like holidays?

It wouldn't surprise me if you find this question rather stupid. Now, I'm not really religious, but still I have to celebrate these holidays that has to do with Christianity. I just don't enjoy celebrating a day that for me really doesn't matter at all.

Most people I know gets really hyped up for Christmas. I just don't see any joy with the whole gift thing, neither do I care for spending time with my family. If you haven't guessed it already, I'm not very social. It really feels like you're just trading items with each other with all those presents. Why not just keep the cash for yourself and use it how you like. A gift, according to me, is something you give to someone because you care about the person. Not something you give away to get something back.

Then we got new year. (Or what you call it, don't know if there's a special name for it).

I really don't find anything worth celebrating, once again, according to me. The next day is just like the one before, but with a different number.

When we get to birthdays, I wouldn't call them holidays, but I do find them worth celebrating. I also think that it gets the whole gift thing right. I would gladly go and get something for a person that I care about for his/her birthday.

It's probably just me being a bit grumpy, but I really feel like I can't be the only one who thinks this.

Holidays are alright for the most part. I prefer those that aren't overly commercialized (Christmas, v-day, ect.) I'm Wicca and enjoy the solstice/equinox days the most, but other holidays can be fun.

Do I like holidays? Yes and no.

Like you, I am pretty antisocial. Most of my time is spent in my room, away from others. I mean I like people, just not 24/7 company. I like beling alone is all. But the thing is, when the holidays roll around, it's impossible to squeeze in some time for yourself. If I sit in my room while company is here, then I am rude. And during the holidays, people are always here. It absolutely drives me insane. Maybe it's just because I don't like any of the people who come over (they aren't even my family).

But in another way, I love the holidays! There are some that do not require tens of people to visit my house each day, like Easter or Remeberance Day, and a day off from school is a day of bliss. I like school, just not the people. It's nice to get some time away from them, you know?

Holidays can be horrible or fabulous for an antisocial kid like you and I.

It really depends for me which holiday it is. I am not necessarily a big fan of holidays but I really like Halloween. Some people frown upon Halloween but then again there are always going to be haters out there so what can you do?

It all depends. I don't like the Christmas holidays very much, or what Halloween has become, I dislike Easter too. I do enjoy the time off work to relax and being able to hang out with people etc. But allot of the holidays I dislike now because it just shows how crappy humanity is now (not all of it, thank goodness).

This thread makes me kind of sad :(

I love holidays! Surely with all the wonderful holidays that exist during the year, everyone can find at least one that they enjoy?

It isn't my intention to make people sad :(

I'm sorry but I just can't enjoy any holidays, trust me I've tried. I do have some rather personal reasons to why I don't like holidays. But I rather not write them out on a open thread like this, I'm sure you understand that though.

I'm a bit like Scrooge when it comes to the holiday season. All my Christmas shopping is done in November because people are absolutely insane on the roads and there isn't Christmas music playing in every building and bathroom. I'm fine with a little holiday cheer, but I really don't like certain aspects of the holiday. For me, it gets old and obnoxious really fast.

I'm happy with the days off holidays provide though, as I spend my time doing something I normally wouldn't have time to do.

Ah holidays. The time when family comes over, we share gifts with eachother, have a great meal, tell eachother stories, and play games with eachother. Sadly, the only one I ever care about is the food. Otherwise, I just veg out in my room playing videogames all day. :)

I love holidays!

Though I basically just stay home and chill with my family during holidays. We don't even do much either.. Just do our own schtuff, and eat together, and watch tv together, then do more of our own schtuff.. Yeah.

I really love Halloween and Vday though. Mainly 'cause I love all the candies I get. c:

  • 2 weeks later...

Holidays are horrible because you can do nothing but to sit alone in your house/hang out with your friends/talk with your family for the entire day without any chance to be productive. You can't earn money, and you are pretty much forced to waste it on useless gubbins that may or may not be forgotten in two or three weeks.

Well, I like work, so that's just me :derp:

Well, yeah, but they can get pretty boring at times. My holiday schedule most years is housework, helping with my mother's business and seeing relatives.... Pretty boring. But it makes the moments where I can sit down and play some Pokemon with some earphones in much more enjoyable. tongue.png

Hey, don't most of you guys get the whole Summer for a holiday? I live in Australia, and our biggest holiday lasts 8 weeks. XD

I hardly like holidays, do nothing at all with it. I don't go see anyone, except for my family which I'd rather not speak to in my time.

Apart from that, holidays are just a boring excuse to get out of every day life. Starshine mentions a good point.

I don't really wanna spend my money on things like this, waste of my money when it's not appreciated.

Sure people may like it, but I certainly hate it, from those reasons and experiences.

I both love it and hate it up to a great extent. I love it because I can finally be alone and relax from socializing with other people in school and anywhere for that matter. Ironically, though, I hate it because I have nowhere to go, thus somewhat isolating myself from the outside world, witch in a few weeks starts to drive me crazy.

So, yeah. Holidays are good as long as they are either really short or really long. Anything in between is both heaven and hell.

Well, yeah... But I don't like the summer either. It's just way to warm outside, and it never gets dark. Can't believe people who think that Sweden is way to cold.

Don't like holidays, don't like the summer... Whoa.... Didn't know that I would turn into a grumpy old man at the age of 15.

People in the working world don't get as many holidays off as kids do, so most holidays don't mean much to me anymore. They tend to pass like any other day. Halloween and Valentine's Day may be the only two I don't care for. That might sound kind of strange considering that they're almost opposites. New year celebrations just feel pointless; can't see the appeal in them or sense of accomplishment/renewal others seem to get.

For most of my life I never liked Christmas, but that was due to the cheerful, social nature of the day which sharply contrasted with my solitary and depressive existence. A lot of people can relate, I'm sure, which is why there are so many suicides around that time of year. These days I actually enjoy it.

I love holidays! I just hate how I have to celebrate them.

Holidays strike me a beautiful for the most part. They get special colors and people become excited. It seems like the country wide, if not the global population is thinking about one thing. I love the look of Christmas and the idea of shining tinsel and warm fires with pretty wrapped things under a tree and your entire house decked out in the most horrendously gaudy/beautiful display. I love to give gifts to the people in my life, for some reason it just makes me happy. Oh and I get to bake! I love to give baked gifts that let people know I've put time and effort into doing something for them. Those that know me are familiar to know I do not do those kinds of things unless I feel like it. No holiday in the world can force me to give a gift. I always get a light up or dancing hat for myself at Christmas and wear it to all of the parties. It's nice to get things, I won't lie about that. Even if they're things I don't really like, it means someone thought about me or at least put me on their list and bought something generic. My favorite things are those given to me by the kids I teach, drawings and such they've made themselves. I'm such a sap for them. I think the saddest thing about Christmas is its the time people give most to charity, which I feel is something that should be stressed year round and not on a holiday. We should always want to help others.

Most other holidays are fun for me too. I have my own mini farm with my lovely pet ducks and hand raised Ebden geese, so I take the goose eggs and blow them out, then paint them or ask my friends to paint them. Then I'm left with a bunch of beautiful eggs and memories of my friends.

The only holidays I'm not wild about are New Years and Valentines Day. It is horrible to admit but I can never seem to restrain myself on new years eve and always end up doing something I regret. I once kissed my ex girlfriend on New Years not long after an extremely icky break up. To this day I don't know what possessed me to do something so stupid. Valentines day I don't like because I'm very, how should I say this... particular about romance and love. Intimacy with your partner over even with a friend is something I think is very private. I always get this nagging feeling on Valentines day that my privacy is being infringed on and that if I'm spending it with a partner, it isn't really special. It's one thing to be happy on a holiday but to be in love on one just because society tells you to is... very disturbing for me.

Most of the holidays I have a spent with family, which is the down side to all of that. I love my family, but they are seriously all out of their minds and use the holidays as a time to be very loud and to get into a lot of arguments. In the spaces where we do neither of those things, we all sit around bored to tears until someone picks a fight again. Also with my grandmother passing this year, holidays are going to be very hard. She made everything exceptional and special and just... better. But life will go on. It isn't the holiday's fault and I plan to embrace them like my grandmother did, with enthusiasm and optimism. Holidays add a sense of magic and mysticism to the world in my opinion. I don't care who's religion made them (which anyone that believes Easter and Christmas are still Christian holidays and avoids them because of that are foolish in my opinion) or why they're there. If I think they're fun and beautiful I'm going to participate, I'm going to teach them. Culture is a beautiful part of this world and I love it when I have the chance to embrace it!

Holidays are amazing. Why hate them? xD

Some holidays are grateful, because you get to take a day or two off from then. Another great thing is that you'd get to spend time with your family and show how you appreciate them. :)
