Equestria Girls DVD reveal

Well guys, it seems we're getting close and closer to the final reveal of Equestria Girls.

 

 

As I said last time, I was impressed on the later details of EG, however, now I'm having second thoughts about this.

Now, it REALLY looks like a parallel copy of monster high.

What do you guys think?

Actually, yes. On EQD, there was an announcement a while back about Equestria Girls being a movie in theaters. The release date was N/A and you could search via Zip Code to see if it is playing in a theater in your area, but any Zip put in would result in 0.

Well, I'm glad it's just a stand alone DVD. I'm probably not going to get it, because you know it's gonna be on Youtube after the release. But, I can't wait to see it, looks good.

It does look like Monster High! But, anyways I really would like to see it. It looks interesting. I can't get the dvd cause i'm broke.

Of course I will give this a chance, but don't get your hopes down, they could just be the HASBRO poses not the real thing. It may be interesting, or it might not. Hopefully someone will post it on youtube!

Eh. I'll watch it, but the style does look exactly that of Monster High, and I never cared for that series at all. And I see there is another alicorn reference, not that I didn't expect that.

It's not that I TOTALLY hate the concept....it's just such bad anthro, seriously, I think a 2 yr old fan of MLP could make better antrho!

Even if it sucks, it has to happen. It's almost like a unwritten rule that even the best shows and movies have to have a crappy(or at least sub-par/meh) entry in the series if they go on for any long-term length of time, and considering this show is getting ready to enter season 4...

 

I'll still watch it, as far as I know it may turn out like the Twilight Sparkle micro-comic and the writing makes up for the sub-par artwork.

Even if the storyline IS good (which I doubt), the quality of the character design is not only still bad. In fact, it's worsened.

 

The "leaked" designs were generic, but at least they were decent enough to become identifiable and not so intellectually insulting. Here, these characters look absolutely anorexic and sexist. They sexualize the female anatomy beyond even what many of the Disney princess of the Renaissance did (except Ariel). They look Barbie-fied with a splash of anthropomorphic anatomy, with the exaggerated neck, arms, and hourglass torso.

 

Currently, because the character design sucks, I have no interest in watching it. The hook is more broken than a rusty ship anchor, and as a result, I see no reason to trust the team in doing a decent job executing it.

 

If Hasbro's going to genuinely try to attract the Monster High audience, at least demonstrate genuine effort by not slapping lazy design and actually drawing GOOD anthropomorphic characters. There are so many brony artists out there who draw great humans of the Mane Six, this being a good example. Good character design tells curious consumers that the overall product is high in quality, while bad character design like these pieces of garbage show nothing except the lust for a quick buck. Combined with its terrible character design, needlessly slapping the MLP:FIM franchise on it undermines the intelligence of the consumer, and anyone with a good eye for quality should be repulsed by these sexist designs!

 

Factually good character design hooks people in. Bad character design detracts them. EQG's main hook — the character designs — sucks, so I see no need to trust the crew into hoping they write the overall product well.

hmm... i find the ponies to look 100x better than whatever these things are.

 

They clearly aren't human because it doesn't seem they have a rib cages... and they have furry ears?

I would feel a lot more hopeful about this if they had human ears. Why do they still have pony ears when they have been transformed into humans? And the cutie marks on the cheeks are just visually distracting. And Fluttershy looks more like an alien than anything. Slap a pair of antennae on there and Bob's your uncle.

 

I'll watch it when it comes out, though. Who knows, it might be good enough to make me forget that the Mane 6 seem to have been cross-bred with ET.

If it gets taken down from YouTube, they better make the DVD available for multi territories, not just the US. Even if it isn't that good, I still want to see it at least, and I don't want to watch a pirated version online.

 I think they're talking about going to the website. I feel kind of disappointed actually. Right now it seems to be a Monster High type of show..I thought maybe it would have been something different. But I will wait to see it and see how I feel about it then..This also got me thinking..a EG style Derpy or Doctor Whooves, or Vinyl Scratch, and Octavia?  Lyra, and Bon Bon? YES!

I'm probably going to check this out if I hear good things from other people, but I'm not so sure anymore. About the designs... I think the fact that they're skinny as sticks is a little concerning, not to mention that their cutie marks on their faces is a little... strange. It just bothers me in a way I can't explain.

I quite like the DVD cover, it looks really good imo. The logo is alright too, a heart shaped horseshoe, pretty harmless. The character designs there look a bit of a step down from previous leaked images though, lay off the lipstick please...

Yes! I absolutely agree with you! The lipstick makes it seem a lot like monster high! I hope it won't be like monster high because the characters do look a lot like them and its set to the same age setting!

 

The logo is also similar to the skull from the Monster High in the bent sorta shape.

 

The thing I dislike the most about it is the placement of the cutie mark..... It just looks like a tattoo on a cheek and it doesn't seem very appeasing. I like how Rainbow Dash has it on her clothes. I think it shouldn't be on their skin or body but rather on the clothes that they wear!

 

Apart from all this I can't wait to look at Equestria Girls! Hopefully it won't be too much of a disappointment!

Anyways, I'm still going to be watching this premier or movie or whatever it is, not sure if it'll be good, but whatever. I'll still check it out to see. 

 

I do think the art design looks weird, although it looks like they got rid of the wings on them I think, which is an improvement. Still i wish they looked a bit more ordinary human like. Maybe just some more human ears or something, they just look a bit strange, I really don't like the art style anyways.

 

I think thats my biggest complaint, and really the only one I can make as of now anyways.

 

I hope the actual movie or whatever itself is good though. I'm not buying it, but I'm gonna try to watch it on youtube if I can.

I have torn feelings about Equestria Girls. I hated it when I first heard about it, but I've been reading through the leaked storylines that have been posted. I think it could either be amazing or it'll be horrible. I'll probably rent it when it comes out just to say I've seen it.

 

The ears are really the only thing that bothers me about the character design. Why would you make them have human bodies with pony ears?

(The official description states something along those lines, with Twilight encountering girls who remind her of her friends in Equestria.) Why are the others anthropized, then? Is she going to a world which is a human equivalent to Equestria (the mirror would sort of make sense in that case), or are they simply being shown for the sake of advertising?

My guess is just advertising. But the human Equestria would be pretty cool! I hope they would include background ponies if they did something like that.
