I grew up with rock, but I've made the switch to dubstep, Trap, and Turntabalism. I just like the bass of electronic over the drums of rock and country.

Like I always say for anything based on a (somewhat biased sometimes) opinion, It's very subjective. Some people prefer music with words,no words, a story to it, or just a good beat.

Everyone comes from different backgrounds. Not one genre of music is "better" than the others. It is just how much do YOU like them personally. The only way to end this debate is to agree to disagree and respect eachother's taste in music.

That being said, to answer your question on which i prefer; I like Rock more. But I am a bigger fan of J-pop, electronic, instrumental, and symphonic musics. My favorite band is Evanescence.

Dubstep is cool and all, however, rock has a wider variety. Theres soft rock, metal rock, techno rock, original rock, 1960s rock and the list goes on and on and on. Plus I write rock songs to so, forgive me if im a little bit biased.

Why not both?!?!?

I prefer rock a little bit more, But he is some Dubstep-ish sounding guitar from my second favorite band on the whole planet!

But Metal > Everything else

I see no purpose in comparing two wildly different genres of music. I'd rather compare genres to similar genres, and not one that are so broad like rock to ones as specific as dubstep (which is a misnomer anyway, since most consumer dubstep falls under the brostep umbrella).

But rock by a mile.

That's kinda unfair. You might as well ask "What do you like better, electronic music or deathcore?" One's a strictly-defined subgenre, one's a very wide genre that encompasses an extremely wide variety of music.

Absolutely rock all the way 100%. Dubstep just sounds terrible to me, I honestly don't see the appeal at all.

Do you even Burial?

See, THAT is dubstep. Not this robotic, talkbox-y, sparks flying, over-modulated, over-hyped, and altogether unappealing mess we call Skrillex and Knife Party.

Well it was better than Skrillex, but I would still take rock over dubstep any day. Dubstep just really doesn't appeal to me at all.

The only kind of Dubstep that I'm a huge fan of is Post-Dubstep, while I hate a lot of rock bands that you hear on the radio, there are quite a few good rock bands out there that I think are more preferable over the Post-Dubstep that I listen to.

That's pretty much mostly true, although my friend told me about this one song that I actually kinda like, it sounds sorta cool

Comparisons to Skrillex are unwarranted here. One is dubstep, the other is brostep. Two very different things.

How about this?

Well I personally enjoy rock more, Its my main genre I listen to mostly, and It has the majority of the songs I like.

But I wouldn't say dubstep is bad, or any music really, I think music is a good of preference and what you feel the most and what brightens you up or motivates you to do stuff, everyone has a different genre this does for them.

So i think its not really which is better, but more or less just preference to the person.

Wich one do you guys like more? Personally, I love rock way more because I grew up with it and I think it sounds better. I've been arguing with a friend on this subject for a while, maybe you could help end the debate.

Rock.

Dubstep is fine and I don't mind it, but I'll always choose rock it's actually got lyrics that make sense and can comment on political and social issues (well some do, most don't). So far I've not heard any dubstep that's done that, the closest was Pitchshifter and that was a metal band with dubstep elements.

Rock sounds better in my personal opinion.

Although I do sometimes enjoy some Dubstep, Rock is what I usually listen to in my spare time.

Actually, both genres are awesome. Rock is more of the metallic sound and has a nice pattern to the songs. Besides, it goes well with singing.

Now dubstep is interesting. The bass is what really catches me, because once it stops, I start craving it. The song map is also pretty standard, having the normal part and the the drop. Syncopation is very present too, and I like syncopation.

Now, on the normal day, I listen to dubstep, but I play rock. Kinda weird, but it goes well for me at least. And when I'm composing, I like taking elements from both genres to the song. I mostly compose rock songs, cause they're easier, but I always add a nice bass part to the songs, or a very awkward syncopation. That way the music keeps lively, instead of being always the same repeating thing. And when I do repeating things, I try to focus on the details. Like, I may change the beat for a split second, or add and remove random instruments, then I re-add them and remove the bass, then I change the music completely, add a nice hallway for the bass and then a nice guitar solo with a bass mirror.

And now, to finish off my post, I'll put here my favorite dubstep and rock songs: (I'm uploading the dubstep one, since it's not on Youtube yet)

You... You serious?

I mean, rock and dubstep are two different genres of music. It's like comparing tacos to an Xbox! :P

But in all seriousness, i'm not a huge fan of either, but if I had to choose, I would go with rock. :)

Good ol' rawk music. I can get down to some guitar solos and singing about love, sex, and rock n' roll. Not some autotuned girl's voice over random computerized BWAAAAHS and beeps.

Cool stereotype on electronic music bro, it works well as a stereotype because of how inaccurate it is

SEE? Electronic music can have cool guitars too, and plus those synths aren't computerized, they're all analog hardware. Let's see Skrillex try to do something like this

Rock. Jesus Christ Rock. Dubstep I just do not like in general. If I wanna listen to Electronic Dance music, I'd much rather listen to House, Trance, or even Drum and Bass for that matter. Rock, I wouldn't necesarilly say it's my favorite genre, but I like it a hellofalot more than Dubstep.
