Rise of the Moderators

Why is Thereisnospoon making announcements?

Fear not, everypony -- moderators have yet to become autonomous and overthrow Feld0. But we thought you should all be privy to a few changes made recently amongst the staff.

1. All moderators are now global moderators. What does this mean exactly? In the previous hierarchy, moderators were divided into two separate yet equally important groups: sectional mods and global mods. Sectional mods could only moderate areas to which they were assigned. This distinction is now abolished. Moderators are now consolidated into one group, with all the rights and privileges of global mods. They will still be assigned to oversee particular sections, but their responsibilities as a whole overlap across the forums.

Why was this change made? What madman placed all of his faith into a collection of unstable individuals? Providing all of our moderators with global tools should help them with responding to needs across the forums; furthermore, they can more readily assist administrators with issues which crop up across the website. In spite of joking comments about their stability, all the moderators serving on MLP Forums are judged to be trustworthy and responsible in the utmost possible manner. The decision to effectively promote all of them in one fell swoop would not have been made if we did not believe they were willing and/or capable to shoulder a new set of responsibilities.

2. You may contact a moderator directly if that moderator has taken an action related to your account or posts. If you feel confused or require clarification, sending a PM may be preferable to filing a Mod Dispute support ticket. Avoid requesting clarification from a moderator unrelated to the issue. Should you be unsatisfied with the response, make a support ticket so that the admins can take a closer look at the case. (For a more in depth response, please refer to this part of the FAQ.)

Of course, if you have any questions or comments, feel free to share them. smile.png

Glad to see that positive change is taking place. I look forward to seeing the staff here continue to take action toward improving things for everyone - both on the front and back ends. :)

Or something of that sort blush.png

But really though, this will make things much more convenient for everybody. Any serious issues can be dealt with straightaway rather than waiting for someone with the proper authority to show up, and we can do our best to sort out any concerns without having to take up too much of the admins' time.

Well interesting changes I guess, I'm not sure how much effect I'm going to personally see from it, but I can see it working out well considering the fact that as far as I've known them, all the moderators are certainly trustworthy, I guess having the possablitiy to have some backup from other moderators instead of pinning them to the one forum section is a good extra thing to have, i assume that generally speaking they'll still mostly keep within their bounds anyways since its a efficient method of work, but it is always nice I guess for them to be able to do other things if its needed.

As for the messaging moderators, I don't really know anything about it, I always thought sending a mod dispute ticket was more or less the same thing, but I don't know since I've not yet had to deal with the issue at any time. I suppose it is a bit more straightforward, again not sure if the effect will be noticeable to someone like me, but I can see it working out.

So from what I see the changes look good to me, I don't really have any quarrels with them, so I guess I'll just sit back and wish good luck to all the mods and hope everything goes swell :).

Yup, seems my power level has increased... nice. I'll still be moderating MLPFiM the best I can of course, but it'll be nice to correct the mistakes I see in other places I visit a lot like Media Discussion... and be able to correct more of my own as well. ^_^

That'd be the point of this, yes :3 Everyone still focuses on their own sections, but now everyone is also capable of helping out with things when they need to. This will result in less work for people in the more active sections such as MLP:FiM and Beyond Equestria, so they can relax a bit, and at the same time, it allows folks who don't have sections quite as active, to step out and do more should they so choose. Meanwhile, even less work for the admins <'D

It's like when Guru touched Gohan and Krillin on the head and they were suddenly powerful for all of, like, two or three episodes.

And the mods powers grew to fill the void left by the admingeddon

For the remaining admins were desirous that the staff should be more efficient

But they knew not what they had released

And Evilshy spoke to another in secret using language only the devil knew

For Evilshy prepared himself for the coming storm as prophesied

And all would tremble on that terrible day

Mods are getting buffed in the next update, and are way to OP, nerf them pl0x

I can imagine all sectional mods are quite happy to finally being able to use their ban hammer in other sections. Congratulations, mods

WHY DO ALL THE ANNOUNCEMENTS HAPPEN WHEN I'M ASLEEP?

Anyway, to be honest I'd always kinda mods to be global. That way you won't have to worry about whether or not they're in the section where something bad is happening.

Things will get done easier and faster now. Happy about the changes. Keep doing what you're doing, staff team. :)

Oh my God. I knew this day would come. 'Global' moderators? It's the illuminati of the MLP forums. They're watching us! They're trying to control us!

The mod's are getting a boost huh?

I had a feeling there would be some announcement not too long after the resignations of Keygear and Zoop though this wasn't the one I was expecting but if it makes everything easier I am for it.

laugh.png HA, just kidding, congrats to all the "new" global mods!!!

This is actually a fantastic change, largely in that it will make it far easier, as you mentioned Thereisnospooon303, for the moderators to respond to, sort out, and deal with problems across the board.  Great change admins, and thanks for continuing to make our forum experience as clean and efficient as possible! derpy_emoticon1.png

I've actually thought this would be a good idea for awhile, having seen a few situations where something was blatantly wrong, but the only mod there was a section moderator out of their own section. I think this will make things more efficient, and I'm happy to see some of my favorite moderators get a promotion.

This is basically how administrators and other higher level staff members make their decisions:

It's only for the greater good if we can increase our own power.

@, hey, makes sense to me, after all, it's about how every other place works. wink.png

We'll only be in real trouble once multiple admins and mods start promoting themselves all to Feldian Overlord.  At that point I'm pretty sure the final battle for the soul of the forums will begin, or as I like to call it, "The Great S*itstorm*"yay.png

I miss the days when moderators were brought here by the *insert mode of transportation here*loads.

The next one was surely going to be segwayloads. Or bicycleloads.

This isn't actually new. I remember when I first came on board, this had just happened. And then we went back to sectional mods as a way of distributing the workload, shortly before I resigned. And now back to this. Is back and forth swing. No big deal.
