Monsters under the bed and in the closet. What do?

Night one, stay awake. Night two, keep my epee in my bed and poke their eyes out. I'd say 'keep a knife nearby' but since I don't have the space to put anything next to my bed and I'd rather not have anything sharp next to my head when I'm asleep I don't have much of a choice. Fortunately for me, I don't actually have a closet, I have shelves, so I only have to worry about monsters beneath the bed.

Under the bed?  Leave a turned-on flashlight on the floor and facing the bed underneath  

In the closet?  Mount a medium or heavy sized physical object against the closet door(s) so that monsters won't exit

Until I get a real bed here, I'm currently sleeping on a mattress on the floor, so I don't have to worry about monsters underneath my bed. lol. But I do have closets, although I keep them open.

I don't like sleeping on a mattress on the floor, though. It does feel very vulnerable. not to fictional monsters, but IDK?.. Mice? Rats? Haven't seen any of them here and I know they can get on beds, so it's kinda silly... just feels like it's too easy for them when your mattress is on the floor, you know?
