Scariest Online Experience You've EVER Had?

What is the scariest thing that has ever happened online to you? Mine is pretty tame.

I was browsing through a server hosting website, and suddenly I got jumpscared by a .GIF (think 420yolo) then DDOS'ed for almost three weeks. It freaked me out cause the only link I could go to was the 420yolo-ish link.

Embrace the night, however, do not let it overwhelm you. For only with the perfect balance of light and darkness comes true revelations upon our kind.

That is scarier than my experience. I'm honestly surprised you are still alive after that horrifying event. Cheers to your humor.

That stupid 420 - yolo  site with the jumpscare Jeff the Killer image with sound.

I love Jeff the Killer..but I didn't need to hear that in the middle of the night...in a dark room...volume turned up full blast...and with headphones in.

I now mute my sound nearly all the time because of that experience.

Normally I can deal with the site but it scared the **** out of me cause I had just woken up and was looking up some important stuff. Turns out it was a practical joke gone terribly wrong set up by one of my hacker friends. He fixed it about three weeks later, it was only supposed to last for 3 minutes. He put in too many zeros -_-

One of my friends linked me to a Jeff the Killer screamer and I swear it triggered something in my brain, because ever since then absolutely everything has made me jump. Someone says my name in the house and I go "AHH FUCK WHAT."

Also there was a day where my Skype had been completely hacked. I was friends with a fairly big YouTuber named Bodil40 and I had made another friend who really didn't get along with him. Eventually him and his hack team started hacking my Skype for the whole day because I was friends with him. I'd talk to Skype customer service to recover my account, change all my passwords, and a few seconds later, hacked again.

I don't know, those dirty ads on ThePirateBay with the yucky IRL humans I guess. It's a shame I don't have AdBlocker on my phone. And then there was time when I played the scary maze game when I was 7 but that's a story better left untold.

I was on Omegle back when it was only text chat.  Some guy told me exactly what I was doing, and said he could see me through my webcam.  That's when I learned to always cover my webcam unless I'm using it.

I never experience that....but other than reading life threatening creepy-pasta, I haven't experience anything out of the usual yet. XD

Now that I think about it, I've encountered close to zero jump scares during my time browsing the Internet. I watch other people's reactions to them, but never been fooled by one. :P

I guess creepiest counts as scariest, right? Reading the creepypasta called Ted The Caver from an old Angelfire entry was probably the scariest experience online for me. No jump scares, just a straight up brilliant horror story. Multiple times around the end of it, I was genuinely looking round my room in fright, making sure there were no round objects in sight :P

Most frightening online experience ever, eh? Well... there was "My Jeans", the worst song that I've ever had the displeasure to listen to, but that was more like unbearable pain rather than fear... The best way I can describe my experience is referring to the machine that sucks life from the Princess Bride.

Actually, I remember now. I was a lot younger, it was this scary horror game on miniclip. Didn't get far in it, but I remember it was very frightening for me in grade 6 or 7. A certain shock site was also a very scary experience, but I scrambled to close it pretty fast

The discovery of Bronies!!! lol, nah, just kidding. Probably either a jumpscare at the absolute worst time, ghost videos, or browsing Art Bell's coast to coast ghost page at a very young age. I've ran into some strange people online too that you wouldn't wanna run into in a dark ally :P.

Edit: Also not the scariest but I just wanna mention Salad Fingers and other David Firth stuff. There I mentioned it! yay

Woah, woah, woah, you're friends with Bodil? Dude, I love Epic Jump Map. I'd love to meet him, even if it's for a few minutes or so. I'm so jealous! :)

Well, since it's the internet I don't think anything is scary.. Except for one thing, I was just browsing the internet when suddenly the computer started acting weird and just turned herself off. It had nothing to do with the internet though, but still I was online. Yeah, that's pretty much it I expect everything else.

I was a wee lass, looking up Mario kart videos, being all innocent and cute and stuff. I clack on a video about a shortcut on one of the courses and BAM exorcist face. I was so young :(

Haha, welcome to the club. All modern teen junk is usually informed to me on the internet because I'm so distant from all of it.

OH GOD- seriously, they have malware like that? :(

Not the scariest thing that has ever happened to me but I've watched all of the four famous Slender video series. Marathoning them can make you pretty paranoid- seeing shadows and stuff in the corners of windows and the like. I even had dreams about Slendy after watching all of Dark Harvest.

Something to go along with that was the YouTube series EveryMan HYBRID, which started out as a food/fitness series. Things went terribly wrong when the creepypasta's started attacking the production crew. They used CGI effects to make various CreepyPasta's come to life, such as Jeff, Smile Dog, Slendy, The Rake, HABIT, and so on. I was more entranced by their CGI skills rather than freaked out by the actual creepy pastas. There's around 40 or so videos in the series. Here's the link to the channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/EverymanHYBRID

Haha, that's one of the big four.

EMH is actually my least favorite. It's probably the best as an ARG since they interact with the fans more, but it doesn't have the same paranoia that TribeTwelve has, it's nowhere near as scary as Marble Hornets, and it doesn't have the Dark Harvest mythos.

Really all it has Slendy and the Rake to make it interesting

Also I think you are a bit mistaken. Only Slendy and the Rake are in the series, and HABIT is an original thing they created themselves. If anyone is going to get into EMH, I recommend googling the wiki first because the main youtube channel is really like 55% of the series. There are blogs, twitters, other channels, hidden physical items, the Trials of Habit posts, etc., so the wiki is really necessary to guide you through the timeline of the story.

Reading Sweet Apple Massacre and Rainbow Factory. It really gave me some nightmares for the past few nights, and it almost scarred me for life.

The first fic I ever read, and this was before I liked the show, back when I was 10-11, was Cupcakes. That turned me off from the show for a looonnnggg time. Then, a while later, I read Rainbow Factory and Cheerliee's Garden/Scarlet Harvest. Those weren't as scary for me, mostly cause I was older, and for some sadistic reason I actually got a kick out of the end of Scarlet Harvest cause the Solar Empire mention was also something I had been writing about in a fic I had been making that (unfortunately) went south.

My Friend and I decided to watch 2 Girls 1 Cup, Always bring the goggles, and the one with a nun and a priest. After that, I was kinda burnt out on the Internet for about 3 weeks.

Perhaps not your wisest choice, although that's pretty tame. I will say this: I lost a bet and HAD TO watch the BME Pain Olympics. Dear Jesus, do not watch it if you value your sanity. All I'm saying is meat hooks. That is all. :(
