What inspires you to do what you do?

The question's straightforward as it can be, but let me reiterate. What inspires you to do what you do? Rephrased, why do you do the things you do?

When I was about 9-10, I read the Harry Potter series and fell in love with it. I was fascinated at how such an amazing thing could be expressed solely through writing. I started trying to write shortly afterwards; the result wasn't exactly... It wasn't bad, but I wasn't contented. Without any bias, though (okay, maybe a little derpy_emoticon2.png ), I think I improved over the years.

This one's a bit more personal, but another time, a year ago, there was this really cute guy in my class who was also a wicked artist. His art was amazing and I couldn't help but stare at his works. So, I really liked him (still do), so I tried to do what he was doing and drew my heart out. Horrible, and still is, but hey, I still do it for his sake, and it's fun too. Win-win.

But this isn't about me, it's about you! So, please, think back to AAAAALLLLLLLLLLL the hobbies you've done and think about why you've done them. Doing these kinds of things kinda bring some enlightenment to me, so probably, it'll help you too!

TL;DR Check the title. derpy_emoticon1.png

People around me who make a difference. Someday, I plan to make a difference with my musical talent. My mind is a vehicle for my compositions and everyday, I am inspired by things I see everyday.

I think the plans and goals that I've set out in my head are what inspires me to do what I do but I take a lot of influence from musicians like LIGHTS, Ellie Goulding, Coeur de pirate and Sigur Ros who have created some of the most original sounding music from this decade and the last.

I heard this speech by David Foster Wallace a few years back, and it completely changed my perspective on life. It inspired me to change the kind of person I am, and to open my eyes to perspectives other than my own. I highly recommend that you all take 10 minutes to watch this video, and to take it to heart.

I do what I do because I believe its right... for me. Also how everyday will change me... for the better or the worst. For me its all about what happens in life to make me do what I do. EDIT: I wish I was on the computer to see the video up there.

Making my family proud; getting a good job one day; living a happy life. I can't really imagine any other reason for me doing what I am doing right now. But anyways img-1957088-1-derpy_emoticon1.png

The influence from the interests that I enjoy, also the support from my family and friends inspire me to fulfill my dreams. It's a gift, and a curse.

These sound really personal and sentimental. I feel kinda ashamed at how self-centred mine are.

This is... True. True to every word. Acknowledging the fact that other people exist is very important, and can help us understand the events that are happening around us. Thank you for sharing this video. derpy_emoticon1.png

  • 6 years later...

I create art because I have to; it’s a natural compulsion and it runs in my family. My mom and sister are incredible artists and they encouraged me a lot growing up so I like to throw in my contributions when I can. And if you have a gift it’s important to make good use of it and hopefully do some good in the process (either to one’s self or to others).

Also, when I was six years old I met a lady who inspired me so much with the work she did I grew up wanting to be just like her, and it pretty much happened. I literally ended up basing my entire career on it. Every day I think about the difference that one person made in my life and I always wonder if I ever managed to pay it forward to the next generation.

My whole life I’ve been a Star Wars fan, so I’ve used its inspiration for my art, imagination and shaping what I call the 'inner heroine' (which is the best version of me I can imagine). Collecting loads of related toys and memorabilia was also a fun hobby on the side.

When something positive inspires the mind and we identify with it, it’s always good to embrace it.
