Splashee 28,564 December 6, 2019 Share December 6, 2019 I have nothing against Walmart. The South Park episode was quite informal about the issues of Walmart. There has also been documentaries I think, but if it wasn't Walmart, it would be some other store that did the same thing. I think Walmart has done a good job keeping the stores as similar across the cities and states. And when a product is bad, all you need is the receipt and it will be alright. Meson Bolt 2,648 December 6, 2019 Share December 6, 2019 Worked at a Wal-Mart for about eight to nine months. I worked the evening shift, that is, from 2 PM to 11 PM, with an hour lunch break in between. Most of the time I was in the back storage room, unloading the big semi trailers that came in daily, sorting the products, and putting them onto palettes to get pushed out to the sales floor. I was getting paid minimum wage ($7.25 an hour in Texas, or just shy of $60 per 8-hour day), and worked 5 to 6 days a week with randomized days off. Paychecks came in every other Friday, each check was about $630 before it got to me, and about $400 when it did. Thankfully I was still living at my parents' place, I don't know how I'd survive if I had to pay rent. The working conditions weren't terrible as most people assume, I worked in the back storage lot a bunch as basically a product-mover. That is, myself and a team of people would unload the big semi trailers that came in daily, we'd sort the product onto palettes and we'd push them out to the sales floor. Then if we had extra time in the day, we'd unpack the palettes and put the product on the shelves until the night shift came on. You got a 15-minute break for every 4 hours of work, so effectively two in the day, and you could add them onto your lunch for a really long lunch break if you wanted. Also I've seen a lotta people here comment that the store greeters have a horrible job, and let me tell you that they absolutely don't. I had to cover for a greeter once, and let me tell you, I wish I had their job. All you do is stand at the entrance to the store, say hi to people, ask if they need help (and direct them to the customer service desk if they do), and give stickers to children. And you make like $11.50 an hour. Mint. What made working there so horrible were the people. Management didn't give a crap about most of the workers, and despite our team constantly being understaffed (we were supposed to have 11 people to unload a truck... we had 5) we still had to meet the incredibly sharp time schedule. It didn't help that about half of the workers were assholes anyway, and the constantly changing schedule and consistently horrible pay was enough to force me out. I don't hate Wal-Mart as a franchise though. I appreciate not having to go store-to-store to find my stuff, and because I've worked there before, I can usually find stuff pretty quickly without asking for help (which for an introvert like me is always a plus). I just don't want to work at one, ever. Your family is who you make it out to be.

Northern Star 1,024 June 11, 2021 Share June 11, 2021 (edited) I never really got the hate as they priced themselves the same as Albertsons and Cash Wise here, with usually barren shelves. They were also paying $25 and hour here, minimum, but when you have to compete with the oilfield, I suppose they have to. They're hit and miss on everything but they're not bad. The only ones they put out of business here was Kmart, but that may be related to the Sears buyout thing that happened at the same time. As for the meat thing, the herbicide/pesticide thing: research it with independent sources. We as farmers do not "soak" or "put a ton more than needed" on as it wouldn't do any more than the least needed, and then it would cost more, lowering profit. All -cides are diluted with water so when they are sprayed it is mostly water. The meat thing, after it redirected, I backed out as they've been sending us, a grain and beed cattle operation, propaganda for quite a while, and most of the time lawsuits targeting them for cruelty aren't very far behind wherever they "find" whater they "found". I also forget to mention that's how we found the cheeseballs: they do free food samples at Sam's Club, which are finally back again too. Our Sam's is 4 hours away and our Walmart is 2 so we don't get to either one often. I find it somewhat surprising still that Walmart hasn't really invaded Europe much.
Dreambiscuit 9,873 June 13, 2021 Share June 13, 2021 I never hated Walmart until this past year. When the covid thing started they came up with the most absurd policies imaginable just so they could ‘be seen’ doing something, even though it was BS and an excuse to make customers jump through hoops and sink to the level of the management. I’m not saying all Walmarts are the same, but the one I frequent never carries enough stock and what they do carry is usually piled up on big pallets in the middle of the aisles so no one can get around them without walking the length of the store to find an egress. They now use self-checkout almost exclusively but none of the savings is passed on the customer, and the self check stations make it almost impossible to use coupons or buy alcohol. And even the self-check stations are shut down long before the store closes. It’s not as though they’re gonna put Walmart in the red by keeping those few machines plugged in an extra half hour! Without live checkers there aren’t any alternatives anyway!! How many corners do these conglomerates have to cut to squeeze out those nickels and dimes?? I feel sorry for their regular workers who are doing their best while the management screws them over along with the customers. Yeah, I hate Walmart these days; just another corporate giant out to take advantage the customer and line the pockets of the senior staff.
