Boy And Girl Brony toleration.

So,what i have noticed as a girl, since i watch MLP and i am 17 that people tolerate it more then say if i was a boy. That made me think: Are we girls of any age more accepted then boys because the show and merchandise are for our sexuality degined? Because when i go to a store and just look at the MLP section, nobody looks at me weird. But when a boy goes watching, the entire store points and laughs almost.

People just feel more comfortable when everyone acts how society says they should act.

A girl acts girly is fine.

But if she is a tomboy she is troubled.

Society placed un-spoken rules for us to follow if we stray it's considered taboo.

I feel like guys have to uphold a strong double standard against women... Where women can get away with a lot more with minimal criticism..... On the other hand I don't give a fuck what people think, and most people don't have the balls to walk up to me and say what they think to my face anyways....

Sad to say but it is true. Society wants you to act your gender and age but that doesn't mean you can't be who you are. There are always people who will accept you for who you are, people who feel the same way. I have long since decided that I'll be a kid forever and I don't care what everyone says because my best friend totally understands me and we don't give an H.

Uhhh

Whoever said MLP was for girls?

Never in the opening of G4 did it say it was only for girls.

As for me myself, I got laughed at for saying I liked Classical music instead of Rock  n' Roll

Double Standards are ridiculous. I think the fact I like boys may have actually helped the perception of the fact I am a brony, particularly when talking to a girl. (Nope, not like that. I wouldn't do that to... I think I should get on with this.)

When talking to other boys, that becomes an issue, usually. It's a girl's show. Well, that's the demographic. Don't say it's a girl's show just because of the demographic. Take soap operas as an example. I know a lot of guys that watch soap operas. Guess what? They were "meant" for women! Ahh. That makes me seem unladylike I guess, because I don't watch them.

I also have been laughed at for not liking rap. What, because it's just badly executed rhyme with little if any real musical talent involved? I much prefer Instrumentals, which instrumental music is actually great. Lyrics get boring after awhile, let the musical instruments have a shot at the melody! (Oh why modern music?) (Oh by the way in my unpopular opinion, they do a BETTER job. In fact, half of the tracks on my phone have no vocals. They're tracks from video game soundtracks. NOT SONIC.)

Yes girls have it way way easier than boys for liking MLP even teenagers and adults because it is assumed that cartoon ponies are "for girls". And because MLP is seen as girly which yes it kind of is but is it really that much more girly than say transformers or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is masculine? Yet what pisses me off is that society dosen't bat an eye when girls get into franchises aimed toward little boys yet teenage and adult men being into something like cartoon ponies gets them labeled as being gay or being a pedophile. There is always going to be some double standards in society but I still think we can do a lot better than that.

Before I scrolled down, I was thinking the exact same thing.  Lol

OT: I, for one, see no problem with it.

I have gotten strange looks for buying mlp stuff, and I'm a girl. But I can undertsand where you are coming from, one of the main things I hear is "any boy who likes ponies is obvoiusly gay" and I have gotten into huge arguments with people over that, be cause I kow strait and gay bronies. I think the standards people hold in society are rediculous, our societies need to "man up" is causing so many issues. There is nothing wrong with boys liking girl things or vice versa. My little brother loves mlp and lip gloss. That doesn't mean anything is wrong with him. And I wish people would get out of there narrow minds and see that.

I must be really lucky.

I am a male, and I've been freely browsing MLP stuff for years, even asking mom to pick me up a neat toy I've seen at the store (and I'm 20) without ANYONE looking at me.

My only negative (to some extent) experience was few forum fanatics

Eventually (thanks to me) that forum transformed from pony-hater den to a completely tolerant if not friendly place.

As a female brony, I don't get much hate or odd looks from people I met in real life. However, I've been discriminated inside the fandom. I've met bronies who tell me I'm not a "real fan" because I'm a female, or that "I don't count as a brony" because I'm a female. I've also been told that I "haven't gone through the struggle of being a brony" and that I "don't understand what it means to be a fan of mlp" because I'm a girl. So I'm not sure if female bronies have it easier.

Yes, I have been discriminated against more INSIDE the fandom than by mainstream society. I shouldn't have to argue whether or not I am a brony. As far as the definition goes by what most of the fandom sees, I'm everything except a guy.   As being a tomboy all my life, I never got strange looks for my adoration of monster cars, but I did have to experience 'forced' feminism because I was (and still am) too much a tomboy for it to be normal. It seems like if girls like boy stuff, that is a lot more accepted than boys like girls stuff because they think girls will "grow out of it" and boys won't.  I find it funny that most of the strange looks, and questioning I get from outside the fandom are among my own peers and friends, because they know me....and I am not a feminine girl and never have been. Even my husband thought I went off my rocker when I first told him about the show.

But because the first girly thing I like is deemed perfectly acceptable except within my own personal ramifications, I find it outright insulting because I still do not fit into societal norms. Being a 'Pegasister' almost makes me want to spit at the word because it further exemplifies that it's perfectly okay for adult women to like the show, and is thus more apt to be "pushed" out of the brony fandom itself because they inherently do not fit in that abnorm that is the "brony."

It's internal discrimination, and it really has to stop...We are all fans of the show and none of us are in the targeted demographic, and thus we should all be considered 'Bronies.'  Plus, that can actually help what mainstream media sees of this fandom, because if there was more equal involvement from the females, the brony community would not be seen in the negative light its in (at least not as badly).  Not that what society thinks of the fandom is all that important to me (because I'm going to do what I want anyways), but for some, that is a problem....

People think MLP is 'for girls' because it's about cute, bright, pretty pastel coloured ponies. It's a very close-minded and stupid attitude, but that's unfortunately the way a lot of people tend to think. People don’t really get that the show isn’t just sparkles and rainbows every episode. It’s gone and progressed into something really incredible, and there are some really nice messages in the show plus actual plot and character development to it. Not just mindless ‘girly’ stuff.

But, I've never really gotten any significant shit from my family or friends about liking the show and I definitely think being female is a part of it. I can pretty much outwardly like ponies and nobody around me really cares because I’m a girl so it’s more ‘acceptable’ for me to like it. Sure, some people thought it was weird, but I could tell it was actually because of the stigma that surrounds mainly the male part of the fandom, which is also why some people are afraid of being open about it because they don’t want to be branded like that. And I’m not going to lie, either, a few years ago before I got into the show I would always browse pony-related material and think about how badly I wanted to watch it but I was in denial about being interested in it due to stereotypes about how creepy bronies are and all that.

Obviously I’m past that stupid mindset now, but seriously, the power of society’s standards is huge. The fact that some people even need to be ‘closet bronies’ is pretty ridiculous since it’s not a big deal at all.

It's in the imaginary rule book of society, which is as previously said is imaginary. Tolerate people whatever they do, whatever gender they are. It looks like humanity hasn't learned this message yet.
