Someone else spotted this and uploaded it at another site. I'll just post it here. You only see it for a split second, but her cutie mark is...A ROCK!

Rainbow Rocks... at least how it could've looked... in a stranger, more interesting dimension

For those who are wondering, Twilight is chewing bubble gum.

I really enjoyed this episode, and had heard about another member of the Pie family starring in an episode a few months back and had been quite looking forward to it.

I thought it had a good lesson and was nice to see Maud wasn’t mean or anything just quiet and weird, I liked that. And there was a line from Pinkie Pie about necklaces where she was disappointed and I welled up a bit to lol and was on the brink of crying.

Maud Pie: *rock nuke*

Rainbow Dash: How did you do that?

Maud Pie: I threw it.

I like her.  ^_^

I was about to ask why you randomly included Derpy Hooves being born on the timeline, but then I saw your name and my question was answered...

Things I liked about Maud Pie:

-Rarity's hat! :D

-Isn't anybody going to rant and rave that we only knew about Inky and Blinky but not Maud? We sure didn't like it when Shining Armor came out of nowhere.

-Boulder? Anybody who remembers the Pet Rock craze saw that coming. :P

-Rainbow Dash was as funny as heck when she tried to be wordy with Rarity and used igneous in place of enigma.

-Maud is the odds on favorite for poet pony laureate.

-Dashie also got owned in shot rock put.

-It takes time to get to know a pony like Maud. Forcing it isn't going to work. Anyway, it's sad anytime the air comes out of Pinkie Pie's balloon. :(

-I bet most if not all of the Mane 6 had the ability to save Pinkie from getting squashed. But rocks are Maud's forte and so she had the fastest reaction time. ;)

-So, what was that about earth pony strength being a myth again? Or maybe Pinkie isn't the only one in her family with special gifts.

If I had a gripe with Maud Pie, it's that they exaggerated Maud's oppositeness of Pinkie Pie too much. The Mane 6's initial reluctance to make the necklaces rubbed me the wrong way too.

There's enough ranting and raving over the third sister not technically being canon and never being mentioned until Pinkie's Pride on EQD. I grow tired of the whining. why can't people just accept her appearance for what it is? Or, I dunno, create their headcanons as to why she wasn't able to be in the family picture in season 1 (like maybe she was off somewhere studying for her degree?)

I do find certain ponie's reaction time when it came time to save Pinkie a little unbelievable- like Apple jack just standing there, when she was so quick to leap into action and save Apple Bloom, last week (or when she could handle her own  against the manticore in the Everfree forest)- isn't Pinkie supposedly her distant relative, so seeing her "blood kin" in trouble, you'd think AJ would move her flank, or Rainbow Dash, who 's supposedly the fasted one in the group, or Twilight readying a teleportation spell. Though, I guess I'm niotpicking. I enjoyed that it was maud who saved Pinkie, in the end, to really show the viewers just how much she really cared for Pinkie when it all boiled down to it

Ha ha, yeah, it was pretty ridiculous how slow all of Pinkie's friends were in helping. I mean, like you said, it was used so that Maud could save her, but they really could've just had one shot with all of Pinkie's friends freaking out and then have Maud hopping into action quicker.

On another note, I love how Maud looks like a World War I German Soldier in her get-up. Looks pretty bad-flank!

Only thing I didn't like about this episode was that when Pinkie Pie was in trouble, I was expecting Rainbow Dash to fly in and save her. I would've liked to see an attempt at her saving Pinkie, only to have Maud get to her first. Not sure if it would have worked though, it's just weird that RD wouldn't try, you know?

But that is nit-picking.

This is quite a solid episode. I loved the humor - it's comical how boring Maud is. The more I think about it, the more I realize that there is probably a lot more about her than she lets on, and that's first seen when she saves Pinkie and talks about how she isn't meshing with Pinkie's friends, on top of the conversation with Pinkie on the train ride back to the rock farm. The conversation was just deeper compared to what you would expect from a kids' show.

I really liked how Twilight's solution after initially meeting Maud is to have each pony spend one-on-one time with Maud. That is such a realistic understanding of how introversion works, and Twilight is definitely one to understand that - not just because she became a princess because of her understanding of friendship, but that's because that's how Twilight herself operates. In the first episode of the series, you see Twilight meeting the rest of the mane 6 individually, and is overwhelmed by the Apple Family and annoyed after a long day of socializing by Pinkie Pie's party. I just really really appreciate this show understanding that some people are introverted and have different needs, because I feel that there aren't many shows that acknowledge that.

My favorite part was the scene with Applejack. I think it's hilarious that we were able to directly compare Maud's love of rocks with Applejack's love of apples.

Something worth noting:

PinkiePieFamily_zps13a42617.png

Maud is Pinkie's older sister, but she doesn't have her cutie mark yet. Pinkie is the first of her sisters to get hers. I just find that interesting. It also looks like all of the girls are very very close in age, which is the only family of the mane 6 that has a series of siblings that close in age. I imagine Shining Armor being a fair bit older than Twilight (since I'm guessing he and Cadance are the same age and Cadance was old enough to babysit Twilight), although I can see Big Mac and Applejack being fairly close in age.

I haven't read the Pinkie Pie book yet - Pinkie Pie's Party Palooza, I think? I hear there's more information about her family in that book. I'll have to read it sometime.

Maud isn't in Pinkie's Cutie Mark Chronicles flashback, which is weird. The writing staff just added Maud for some reason instead of using one of Pinkie's already-existing sisters, maybe because the book was already being written and the other two sisters were being established characters. I can forgive this, though - since it's a flashback, and not an actual account of what happened, it's possible that when she was telling her cutie mark story, Pinkie Pie couldn't remember if Maud was there when she had her party, or if Maud was off doing other things or running a large errand. Or maybe Maud was late to come outside to do chores and showed up to the party later. Actually, the latter makes a little more sense, because with Pinkie it'd be more likely that she would put Maud in her memory of the party even if she wasn't actually there.

  • Rarity wore a giant hat. Friendship is Witchcraft, anyone?

You're right.  I think I'll steal that joke and call it my own.

Maud Pie:

-Dull colour scheme that contrasts with the vivid colours of most of the show's ponies.

-Wears simple clothing.

-Straight, plain mane style.

-No facial expression whatsoever; talks with a bland tone.

-Is a scholar in a subject that no pony cares about.

My reaction:

I'M IN LOVE!

EDIT: How quickly can we add Maud Pie to the list of ponies we can pick from in the 'Best Pony' section of our profiles?

There's somepony for everypony, I guess.

Most likely some form of sendiment.

Sediments...

...make me sentimental.

The only thing I want to know now,

Who is stronger:

Applejack using bucky mcgillicuddy and kicks mcgee.

Or Maud, Able to toss Boulders hard enough to create a mushroom cloud and drill through rock in seconds.

On a side note, we learned where pinkie got her drilling skills. img-2410731-1-Pinkie_using_mane_as_a_dri

Someone said rock candies?

guess_who_s_back_to_make_rock_candy_by_s

Back on topic, the episode was...interesting. I saw Maud so creepy when she didn't show her emotions and all she talked about was rocks, heck, even her pet is one D:

I...I'll just back up in the corner now and wait for E19.

Maybe I didn't get so amazed by Maud because she turned out to be exactly like I expected? Really, what I felt was funny was the exaggeration of her character and the awkwardness of the situations. She is funny because she is not funny. Literally.

What the hell was that with her throwing a rock that blows up like it was Puppysmiles and her Rock of Destiny? And then pulverizing a big rock with her hooves? What was I supposed to get out of that? That she can do these things because she knows rocks? How stupid is that?

What is so great about Maud?

A rock nuke is honestly no less stupid than a Sonic Rainnuke imo, so I'm ok with it. As for obliterating a giant rock with her bare hooves, yea no weirder than being able to defy the laws of gravity on multiple occasions like her sister. This is a cartoon, it uses cartoon logic from time-to-time. Throwing a rock absurdly hard can cause an explosion? Why not? It's no different than Wile E. Coyote surving a 200 foot fall, or simply looking annoyed after being in an explosion.

"Oh look, there's our friend Rarity GOING DOWN IN FLAMES!!! ISN"T FRIENDSHIP MAGIC!!!?" -Tabitha St. Germain as Rarity

"No matter how many times others tell you you're great, all the praise in the world means nothing if you don't feel it inside.......Sometimes to feel good about yourself, you gotta let go of the past. That way, when the time comes to let your greatness fly, you'll be able to light up the whole sky." -Cathy Weseluck as Spike

Poor Spike. Left out again, when there's an infinite supply of rock candy to be eaten.

Hopefully he'll get some by the end.

Pinkie said she had 200 pounds of it. Not even she can eat that much sugar without going into diabetic shock.

Fun episode all around.

Maud Pie: What were you thinking?

Pinkie Pie: I'm sorry, I wasn't thinking.

Maud Pie: What did father tell you about doing things like this?

Pinkie Pie: Don't. I do not have an amusement cutie mark. Nor am I fully licensed to create an obstacle course because I failed to adhere to the safety standards imposed by the Canterlot Board of Amusement and Safety.

Maud Pie: You know I'll have to the tell father.

Pinkie Pie: What?! Please don't. I don't want to be grounded. *Curls up in a ball* No, daddy. I've been a good girl. Please don't bury me in the ground. *Cries.*

Twilight Sparkle: Does your father really do that?

Maud Pie: Pinkie is just exaggerating.

Maud Pie in this episode was a riot, not only did she have a mature style to her but she really surprised me from beginning to end. She wasn't as boring as dry wall, but she was funny in some aspects. It just goes to show you, that sometimes you can find people out there that you want to be your friend but you and that person don't click than others who try to make friends.

Overall, a good episode that I liked. Rock candy is best candy, that is all.
