Well, the reason Button Mash had to stop was because the design had already appeared in the "Hearts and Hooves Day" episode, so Hasbro already owned the design for BM (lol BM). Ponies like Snowdrop didn't have their designs made by Hasbro, so it'd be legal to use them in a video/art as long as it's either yours, the original creator let you use it, or if the creator just doesn't give a shit.

This is, mind my language, f*cking ridiculous. Jan is a fantastic animator, he helped create the Brony documentary and a lot of the best Pony fan animations. Hasbro are literally killing their own fan base. I don't understand what has changed to make them do this. If anything, the fan videos actually benefit them, bringing more people into the community.

 

But no, Hasbro have to be unreasonable again. Feel really sorry for Jan. The amount to time and effort he put into every single one of his animations, to just be coldly told he cannot use them. Hasbro really needs to sort their stuff out.

The fact that he started a counter thread, and then went on to try to show how being bought off means hasbro is the good guy. As far as I can see Hasbro is in its legal right. (You can't really refute it on any fair use grounds because they used SOOO much from the show. And not just characters)

You know, I've had enough of people defending Jan animations. They knowingly used a character from Hasbro without permission or paying royalties. In fact I think Hasbro should go further and sue the pants off them!

I agree with what Hasbro has done. If someone was ripping off my designs I'd issue a cease and decease order!

I'm sorry but as someone who was planning a career in corporate law, before changing my mind and becoming a teacher instead, I feel very strongly about intellectual property!

I'm sorry, but tough. If you can't afford to participate in the fandom, then you can't afford it. It gives you no right to illegally download/stream videos. ( which is a form of theft, by the way.)

They wouldn't need to. The animation is in the same style of FIM, and uses a cartoon pony. That's all the courts would need to issue a C&D order.

Actually, I believe that's what he's going to do.

 

I remember hearing something about an hour ago with ShadyVox saying that they still own Buttons and Button's Mom.

 

But Hasbro owns the style they were drawn in.

 

Therefore, if they redesign Buttons and his Mom, they can continue what they were doing.

 

As long as they don't bring in anymore MLP characters.

I've actually had my eyes on JanAnimations for a project I'm working on that will be free of any copyright hasbro feels they can throw at me. It is still a pony project, but it's not technically MLP. Shadyvox would be a neat voice actor for it as well plus I'd be happy to create another version of the CmC for them to continue BA if they want.

So basically you just have to make a pony thing in a better (or just different) style than Hasbro's, change the character design of Button Mash (Hasbro didn't give that brown colt a name), and remove any and all reasonable references to My Little Pony, just so the legal team at Hasbro will be happy.

Confirmed for C&D, hasbro has killed button mash, arguably one of the best fan made animations, who is next? Snowdrop? Digibroni? Episode reviews in general? After doublerainboom being C&D'd, along with ask molesta, a large number of overseas plushie manufacturers, it seems hasbro may finally be cracking down on those who use its trade mark.
