Best Mane Cast member of Season 4?

I was gonna vote for Rarity, but then I noticed Applejack didn't have any votes, so I gave it to her. Either way, it's very close between the two of them.

Im probably biased, but Rarity.

 

Her characterisation this season was almost always beyond awesome, even in episodes where she was just a supporting character.

 

Not only that. This season gave people that disliked Rarity the opportunity to see that she is truly the fitting bearer of her element. I like to imagine that many rewatched her episodes in season one and two after they saw Rarity takes Manehatten, and that they understood now how great a friend and generous mare she always was. After they gave her a second chance so to speak.

 

I feel for many this season was the turning point in how they see her, that makes season four so important for her, and her fans.

This is Rarity's best season, quite.

In order it would be this.

1. Pinkie Pie. I attribute this mostly to Pinkie Pride, Maud Pie and Pinkie Apple Pie, her three episodes this season. Her characterisation was flawless in all three of them, and outside of the spotlight episodes she's been sterling at providing the comic relief that I'm sure practically all Bronies are a fan of in some form or another. I was very proud to see her Season 1 prominence revisited - an in-depth exposition and rejuvenation of the fact that she's a party planner, and heavy introduction of her family relationships with Maud Pie/Pinkie Apple Pie that we first got a glimpse of in Cutie Mark Chronicles, have really given her dimension.
   
   Oh, and there's also the fact that she's the best pony  
    
2. Twilight; her development has also been very noteworthy. Transitioning from freshmare princess to full-fledged royal authority - while still being down-to-earth - was a satisfying one to watch.
    
3. Rarity; I've noticed her being less overly dramatic and more up to humorous quips. She's had a very big improvement from previous seasons for certain; perhaps the writers sensed it from the fanbase? If so, good for them
    
4. Applejack; here's the median line, the two below I believe represent a decline in character. I don't feel as if Applejack has improved or declined, to be honest.
    
5. This is a tie between Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy. Perhaps I've only noticed how restricted the writers have become with the two. Fluttershy now follows a basic formula for most of the episodes she's been in; they revisit her love of nature and her fearfulness of things - again - but those episodes felt like a consolidation rather than a development. The same applies for Rainbow Dash; her lack of character expansion has left her stale.

1. Rarity  

 

That captured her essence flawlessly this season, and I loved every bit of it

 

2. Applejack

 

We saw a lot of her this season, and I thought all of it was good in some form or another

 

3. Fluttershy and Twilight

 

Here's the neutral zone -I don't think these guys had good or bad seasons, just alright.

 

5. Pinkie Pie

 

She has Pinkie Pride and Maud Pie, sure - she was pretty awful in the episodes that didn't star her in the form of either being flanderized or just flat out irritating. You can't forget that - she had good episodes that were centered around her, but in the episodes that weren't, she was written horridly, even being one - dimensional at some points. 

 

6. Rainbow Dash

 

At least Pinkie had great episodes to make up for her writing. The only good thing about RD this season was "Testing, Testing,  1, 2, 3." The other 23 or so episodes were brutal to her.

Pinkie Pie for sure. She had a ton of great episodes, and moments this season. Pinkie Pride is in my opinion one of the best MLP:FIM episodes of all time, so has that going for her as well.

Rarity owned this season hands down for me. Though she got help from AJ, Sweetie Belle, and Spike along the way. Even a throwaway comment in the finale defending Spike was a nice nod. This felt like the writers apoligizing for her lack of use in Season 3. I am just shy of declaring her character my favorite.

 

If Pinkie had just one more episode like Pinkie Pride and Pinkie Apple Pie she may have taken the crown. It was close. I loved those two episodes!

 

Applejack sneaks in 3rd by virtue of elevating a Pinkie and Rarity centric story to goodness.

 

Rainbow shares 3rd since she had two great moments - Testing 1,2,3 and Flight to the Finish. But she really had some bizarre moments.

 

Fluttershy was ok .. no real complaints. They need to focus on her more next season.

 

Twilight was best 4th season guest Pony.

   This was the season of Rarity, Pinkie Pie and Applejack, a fair amount of development and screen time was applied to them, but alas I wish there was more of Twilight Sparkle, Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy in season four, they were quite typecast in this season, barely stepping out of their comfort zones, and not so much explored as Rarity, Pinkie Pie or Applejack. I will say the time was well spent, and it was good to see the other mane six ponies receive much needed attention, I also liked how Rarity and Applejack were paired better in this season than in the first season, which is stellar to see how much their relationship has flourished. Pinkie Pie was great this season, we get to see more of her complexity and a fellow Pie in the shape of Maud, although she has garnered mixed reactions, it is still nice to see a family member from Pinkie Pie, plus she was very funny this season, Pinkie Pie provided great moments of humour, as she was a comedic foil for the other mane six. For me it was great to see Rarity, after nearly two years of being sidelined, it was nice to see her shine and to be funny too, it was fun to see Rarity being tested in so many different ways, and it was worth every second, I do hope Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy get tested and developed in season five, and see family from their each of them, I do like it when the ponies are pushed from their comfort zones, for it can be humorous and action packed.

I think this was  Pinkie Pie's season. She had the best episodes this time around. Pinkie Pride, Maud Pie, and Pinkie Apple Pie we're three of my favorites. Pinkie Pie is a great character when she's not just used for laughs.

That being said, I suppose it was a more notable season for Rares than for AJ. Applejack was on a high trajectory from Season 3 and just continued upwards, whereas Rarity got quite possibly the worst season on record for any of the Mane 6 in her Season 3, and wasn't exactly getting episodes all the time in Season 2 either.

 

Pinkie Pie had a good run, particularly early season, but it wasn't the nearly spotless record of Applejack and Rarity. Still, I liked her more here than I did before, so that counts for something, hmmm?

Twilight is my favorite and is the best over all the seasons, but for season four I would have to pick Rarity. Inspiration Manifestation was part of my top five episodes for season four and really defined Rarity's character really well. If it wasn't for that episode, I would have picked Twilight since her fight against Tirek in the season four finale was the best fighting scene in the entire show so far.
