    The astral princesses, as I like to call them, actually have a long lifespan (around 5000 years). They were created to end tensions between the three tribes by the queen Chrysanthema, who was the ruler before they arrives to equestria. They were "born" alicorns, not like the "ascended alicorns" that are Twilight and Cadance. They just received the elements that were missing to make them alicorns. For the CMC, I haven't really made solid headcannons on them.

    You don't need to be an artist to have an OC. Start by thinking what do you want, like the species, the personnality, colours... then you can use Pony creator or paint to have everything settled up. When you have this, find an ""artist"" and ask them politely if they may want to give him a better look than Pony creator. I can help you with this step !

    In my headcannon, they can't because their mouth is more like the Preadators and insects. They speak with each other with clicks and when they're transformed, they can't either because it's just an illusion, not really a body transformation.

    Despite my alicorn OC, I tend to cringe a bit while reading some other character sheets/drawings of other alicorn OC. They're usually in the royalty and overpowered, or just overpowered and the royals don't even mind this... A friend had an alicorn OC who was the daughter of Nightmare Moon and King sombra... Roleplaying with her was a pain in the ass. Plus she was carnivore. I have to admit, my OC WAS like this at the beginning, he was the lord of the Ponyville surroundings and he was married to Twilight Sparkle... And he had a really dark backstory. I'm currently laughing at myself because it sucked. Now he's an actor that retired to Ponyville and he's happy and everything. (you can check his character sheet in my signature and critique him if you want, I love receiving critiques) So yeah. I don't really mind alicorn OCs if they're well written and designed.

    You can just une a reagular pencil and some random paper to sketch your stuff out and finish it on MSpaint. That's what I do sometimes. For full digital art, you can have PaintTool SAI, you can have it for free and I have a wacom tablet pen & touch small. They stopped making them tho, now there's a new version.
