  1. I didn't commission it until the World Cup was well over. It was at the first online "Ponycon" in 2020. I've been told this poster has been a significant seller at every convention it's been shown at, and most people don't even know the full story behind it.
  2. Sweet Celestia, it feels like it was 12 months ago. https://www.deviantart.com/lytlethelemur/art/Team-Moon-Dream-Warriors-864236939
  3. This sounds so awesome! I don't see any way I could get there, but I wish I could.
  4. I think part of it is the characters click pretty well with Ponies. The personalities of the TF characters, even the most agressive ones, are pretty sincere and charming. Like a lot of memes it somehow just works. Know what I don't get though? Shipping Twilight with that bird who looks like Falco from Starfox. I think we all have that one meme we don't understand.
  5. Why would you want to use an SSD as the backup drive? HDD's are much more suited to sitting around doing nothing for extended periods of time (which is why most of the big MyBooks are HDD). SSD's are much more suited to being subjected to tons of read/write, which is why they're recommended for the system drive. That's surely going to send the cost of the PC waaaaay up. 4K is terribly expensive to do. You'd probably need a RAID system (for the benefit of OP, that's basically an array of hard drives sitting in a box, working together to form one wicked-fast giant hard drive), to store all the data, and some of those monsters can cost as much as the PC. I haven't even tried to touch 4K yet, but my current hybrid gaming/media studio PC still puts a lot of strain on the hard drives, just from doing HD. @Millennium Shadow Unless you've got a really big budget, I wouldn't recommend 4K video, especially if you're just starting out with learning how to do this stuff. The data storage demands for 4K are just insane, especially once you start doing complex multi-layer composites. I keep the SSD for system files and applications, and occasionally put media source files there if they're going to be accessed constantly. But the rest of the rig consists of four HDD's. Three of them I use to store various source files for the video projects. If I know certain files are going to be accessed simultaneously during playback or rendering, I'll spread those out across the three HDD's so the drives don't have to do extra work jumping back and forth (which slows everything down, and wears the drives out faster). The final drive is where I output the renders. Sure, a bunch of big SSD's are preferable (if you can even find them), but if you're not running a professional studio, they're just not very cost-effective. SSD prices haven't come down nearly far enough yet. A Western Digital Blue 4TB SSD costs $400. A Western Digital Blue 4TB HDD costs $64.
  6. Actually, one could make a good argument that he wasn't even "technically" alive in S3 and was more like a ghost without a body. "Grogar's" spell that summoned Sombra might be what allowed him to have a physical body again. I thought his S9 characterization was fun. He needed a bit more depth to his character anyhow. Considering he got closer to winning than pretty much any villain, except maybe Tirek, was pretty impressive. I was disappointed by what happened in the throne room though. I wanted a chance to see "Mama bear" Alicorn Cadence go completely ape on Sombra. She's the only one we've never gotten to see at full power.
  7. Now I'm reminded of how disappointing it is that we never found out what his military forces were really capable of. Ignoring the fact that the "Battle of Canterlot" was just handled REALLY poorly, we never saw the airships actually get used. Being that we were also given "Sky Pirates" I have to assume there were plans for an air battle somewhere during film development, and it got axed because, "too violent." So unfortunately, we'll never know what his nation was capable of, and what other toys he might have had in the homeland that never even got deployed. One thing that sticks out in my mind though that was mentioned in one of the books: the airships had a kind of cloaking device/smoke screen that would generate a literal storm, completely obscuring the ships from view. This explains how they were able to cruise across Equestria all the way to the capital without setting off any alarm bells. Adding onto that, The Storm King wasn't reliant upon magic. Far from it. He's a rare villain in MLP who not only has a military force that seemingly had been conquering other nations for a while, but also an impressive amount of technology. So... maybe Earth would pull off a surprisingly powerful offensive that catches the Storm King offguard? But it's just as possible it turns into "War of the Worlds" and we're using nukes on our own territory to try and repel the invasion. IMO, the Storm King's biggest weakness is his ego. Frankly, he's a blithering idiot who somehow attained an insanely disproportionate amount of power. One he got his hands on the scepter, after punching Twilight, he test-fired it and wiped out most of his invasion force in the process. He would have no idea when he's stretched his forces too thinly (same mistake Germany made in WWII). But if Tempest was orchestrating the invasion? Lookout.
  8. This. https://www.colorhexa.com/ff00ff
  9. Meh, it was bound to happen sooner or later. In the end, I have no hope for streaming services anymore. For a time, I was happy to come back to "television" but it seems like that time has passed, except for "Watchcartoononline" and other similar sources. It feels like the exclusivity-wars that took over console gaming. It stopped being about the quality of the systems and all about what IP's they controlled. Now the streaming networks are the same way. For a brief time there was hope that it was the end of cable, but that was when Netflix was pretty much the ONLY streaming service. Now if people want to watch everything they care about, they'll end up paying 10x as much as they did with cable. Competition is GOOD for consumers though, right? Right? Netflix can only lose more revenue as other services spring up. The more competition there is, the less of the pie there is for each of the providers. I'm going to take a guess that this is also a bubble of sorts though, much in the same way that cable TV went insane in the 90's, offering 1000+ channels that had almost nothing worth our time. I could easily see this being like the video game crash of the 80's; the market is fast becoming oversaturated, and it's precisely why the megacorps are in the midst of a buying frenzy. The only way to retain customers is to control as many IP's as possible, which I'm pretty sure even circumvents anti-trust laws. Just as one example, how many Marvel shows are there right now, both on TV and on Disney+? Far more than anyone has time to keep up with. I doubt there's anything to worry about that there. Netflix knows how much potential MLP has. The fans kept the show alive on Netflix for long after it was originally going to get axed. Then they did it again. And again. It might as well have been the "Save Star Trek" petition ad nauseum. Granted, the quality in the end will decide its fate, but there's no way Netflix is going to decide NOT to run G5... unless one of the 'replacements' there happens to have once worked as a 4chan moderator around 2010.
  10. I always let the words of their finale song kind of slide by, because it's such an amazing act, but what they were saying really accurate? The rest of the show (as well as their origin story) described them as feeding off of conflict. Alright, fine. But once the Battle of the Bands actually starts, the mood seems to have changed. The crowd isn't fighting each other anymore. In fact, they're united, even if through hypnosis. They are now hardcore fans of the Dazzlings, who are singing not about competition, but adoration, and... perhaps... lustful adoration, at that. Storytelling usually tells this in "end of the world" kinds of scenarios, but is all of this really just about becoming worshiped as gods of a sort? It then feels more like a simple magical path to stardom, instead of some kind of literal world-conqueror. But where would the energy come from at that point? Can they also feed off of desire almost like changelings?
  11. I burn pancake incense that is pleasing to Celestia, toss a scroll in the fireplace for the smoke to deliver it to Luna, and then kneel in prayer on a silken pillow depicting the Celtic horse god, Epona, as the LCD screen on my blood-anointed altar sparks to life. I pour a glass of Absinthe.
  12. I was at Harmonycon. Just got my ticket for Whinny City. Ciderfest was my first con. Don't ever want to miss a year now.
  13. Or Star Wars in general. Military shows up with overwhelming forces and advanced technology. 2nd in Command is a very powerful sorcerer in-spite of being crippled. Party goes to a run-down port town in the middle of a searing desert in search of a smuggler pilot who will take them to get reinforcements. Emperor only shows up in holograms until the finale when his ultimate weapon becomes operational. Yeeeeah...
  14. The best diplomat I know. Well... maybe? I don't think the trauma had as much of an impact on his downslide as you might think. A LOT of people have gone through a "Sandpeople slaughtering" moment in their lives, albeit a less violent one. We all have a dark side in us, and sooner or later, we realize it when it just leaps out of us unexpectedly, and then we're left in shock, disbelief that we are capable of such things. He had remorse afterwards. He still hated the Tusken raiders, but he also hated that he hated them, because he knew it was wrong. But later on? Anakin had to CHOOSE to join the dark side. The Jedi are as much to blame for that as Palpatine. The people Anakin trusted, deceived him and used him for their own purposes, and then tried to murder his mentor. And then he believed his wife had even aligned herself with the Jedi who had now fallen from high esteem. So, yeah... a lot of Anakin's problems are actually friendship issues. If I were to compare him to any villain in the show, the closest match is probably Stygian. About immediately trying to slaughter them... that really doesn't sound like Vader. Unless you're an Admiral who really screwed up, or part of an army on the full offensive, Vader is usually shown to be a negotiator. Sure, he'll go on a rampage when Palpatine tells him to, but when left to make his own choices, he's more reserved. He'll try to talk you down and win you over. So it becomes then, a battle of wits and words rather than swords. Even in the middle of a fight, he doesn't really taunt so much as he debates. This gives the Ponies some wiggle room for correspondence, instead of simply having to go straight for the rainbow Kamehamehaha to avoid being slaughtered. From what I know of their theology, Jedi is actually no better. "Attachment" is forbidden. "Train yourself to let go of all you fear to lose." I find that the Jedi and the Sith are both far too one-dimensional in their dogmas. One rejects the human heart completely, while the other kowtows only to the most primal parts of it. Just as interesting a question would be, would the Ponies have tried to pull him away from the Jedi if they knew what he was going through? Trixie nearly committed suicide when Twilight tried to interfere in her relationship with Starlight, so the Ponies certainly know better than to try to tear apart people who care for one another, or worse, try to make someone STOP caring for another. Anakin was a creature of love, and the Jedi were suppressing it. There were problems from the moment Anakin and Padme had feelings for each other, and the fact that they had to keep it such a dark secret, is far too familiar to stories I hear about the crazy restrictions religious cults place on the minds of children.
  15. In other words... stereotypical celebrities? They can be rehabilitated. Just give them some singing lessons. They can learn how to be famous without relying on magic. Kinda feel like this should have been a poll so I could see just how skewed this would be. Pretty sure Sonata Dusk has always been the favorite.
  16. It'd be a pointless endeavor to discuss the actors, but I think at least part of it is in the way that the money is funnelled after the fact. If you don't like Scientology, well... I doubt Tom Cruise is making a cent when you pick up a copy of Top Gun in Walmart's clearance bin. Someone like Rowling is still the nerve center of it all, still churning out material, and H.P. a type of IP that has enough Merch, you'd think it was coming from Disney. Are any of these "pedo" actors out there on Twitter doubling down on their position saying that sex with children is O.K., to the point that they've turned it into their personal crusade? But to compare it to something like Walmart or Amazon? They already have the world by its gonads, so they know they can do whatever the heck they wants. Any attempt to boycott at the level in which it would have an impact, would do far more harm to the consumers than it would to the company, because nobody can afford the time or the fuel to drive to ten places to do their shopping anymore. A good parallel for that might be a recent increase in gas prices, due to the "boycott" of an entity that has a comparable grip on the economy. It's not a monopoly situation, but it's sure as heck close enough to one. On the other hand... I don't agree with some of Hobby Lobby's corporate practices. But that doesn't change the fact that their stores are far superior to Joann's or Michael's. In fact it's probably one of the only stores left that I can walk into at the start of December and actually feel the holiday spirit. As for whether or not it's OK to support an IP if the creator goes all rogue berzerk... I'd ask everyone in this thread: After having your lives transformed by it, what would you do with MLP if Hasbro or Lauren Faust suddenly went dark-side?
  17. The episode very non-coincidentally-called, "Could Shredder kidnap Bowser?"
  18. I... guess.... it depends on who he was depicted with? I've got nothing against lewd images. As long as they: A. Depict activity between consenting adults. B. Don't completely break the personalities of the characters to accomplish whatever is going on.
  19. I thought Grogar was inspired by the "Red Bull." Not the energy drink. The scary-powerful spirit monster from "The Last Unicorn." Yeah, goat, not bull, but there's the common thread of unicorns mysteriously being snatched away to an unknown location.
  20. Go figure. The Goths were the only group in school who never gave me any crap and treated me like a human being, in spite of me not being one of them. Noy buying it. But I think they're wrong. Clearly these ponies were Vampires. That explains the state we find the unicorns in. They're obviously missing a few pints of blood.
  21. Hey now, Hearthswarming Week also contains Luna's night. This is Solstice. The night of the Winter Moon Festival and I shant let this go unacknowledged!
  22. I feel like a better question is, where the heck do you find them? I've seen ornaments on Ebay but they're usually hackjobs of the toys. There seems to be a tremendous lack of official ornaments, which seems really surprising given how hard merchandising is pushed with IP's. The only ones I even know of were the lower-grade Hallmark ornaments that show up in Walmart every year. And now the two inflatables, if you can count those. Hallmark even has an official keepsake line of G1 Ponies, they come out with one every year. But they haven't even started on the Mane 6.
  23. Ah yes, the classic, "I'm not a sheep, you're a sheep" attack. Don't take it out on these folks just because, JFK Jr. didn't rise from the dead in Dallas. That was solely my fault. Well, the Ghostbusters may have helped. Both the oldschool ones, and the ones from 2016. And then we all went to a concert and worshipped Clone-Bieber.
