    I just ran into someone I know. We were friends as kids, but I recently (and by that I mean this year, so not that recently) learned that they did something not so great (read: horrible). And I can’t reconcile the person I know with the person who did this horrible thing. 

    They said hi to me, and I had no idea how to respond, so I just said “Oh, hi.” 

    I just feel so conflicted. I can’t picture them doing something so terrible.

      You did the right thing responding though. Sometime you don't know what really happened, and you can't be the final judge. It is not your job to be the judge.
