Should MLP Forums censor curse words?

Like I said before, this topic isn't to be taken seriously. XD

Its just a question. Its rarely an issue. This topic is only a "What if" scenario.

All in the title. XD What do you think about this subject, or how would you feel if this were to happen?

Looked pretty serious to me at first. If you said it in another post, I must have not seen it. My bad!

Considering the audience mlp was created for I really wouldn't care. I think some gag censoring where swear words are replaced by cutesy words instead would be fine, even humorous.

Fluff Rarity! She's a piece of Diamond

How do you fluff a diamond?

I DON'T CARE IF SHE'S A DIAMOND, SHE'S ALSO RARITY SO YOU MUST FLUFF HER!!!!post-21236-0-69598400-1405541394.jpg

Hmmm but with the double meaning of the gag censors that also has a rather dirty double meaning... Fun :)

If it was censored, I have no doubt that it would have the opposite effect and actually encourage people to curse as much as possible. Save for a few examples (you know who you are, don't lie) most people here are pretty good about avoiding swearing whenever possible.

I see no reason why swearing should be censored. It could be a rather interesting option for those pansies who don't like swearing, tough.

If they were used to insult someone here probably, otherwise no, it's a way to express ourselves and let us take the crap out of us when something pisses us off and it would be a bad idea to forbid it.

Odds are, everyone is bound to have heard practically every cuss word in the book by the time they reach 13 (which is the minimum age requirement for joining this site).

That being said, while I wouldn't go as far as to suggest to censor curse words, the site staff should stress and encourage users more often to keep cussing to a minimum. Curse words are more often used to insult others rather than expressing a feeling or using it for other proper ways, at least from what I've seen. Sometimes people overuse them

No. "Curse words" are not always used in an offensive context, whereas I could use the most "proper English" and convey a message that is incredibly derogatory. The mods should focus on content that is actually offensive or abusive, rather than focus on policing language use.

Sig made by Kyoshi.

Cool things people have said about me:

Never heard of him but I guess just you mentioning him is a good reason not to go anywhere near that name.

(In reference to an author I suggested.)

Most of us are on a mutual understanding of maturity, so use of a few here or there as "sentence enhancers" is pretty much inevitable.

The rules are fine as they are. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I got slapped with a warning recently for posting a video absolutely chock-full of nothing but curse words on here. I seriously didn't know just what I was thinking, but I claimed to some users that I was just testing the waters as to what extent it's accepted on here.  :comeatus: I'll own up and admit I really should've known better.

nope they are just words nothing less and nothing more they were created to mean something but where then used in insult people I guess that's why they are taboo but if you look up the official definition to some curse words they aren't that bad. its just something you don't want an innocent child to say

I'm coming from a forum that thinks of itself as being fairly family-friendly, as the majority of users happen to be between the ages of 11 and 17, for whatever reason. Even since I've been there, the forum rules have slowly but surely grown more and more lax, and the atmosphere hasn't changed. In fact it's grown more relaxed, I would say, though there are certainly no major qualms or riots from the public regarding rules being too strict after loosening some rules. Nothing is censored, double posts are now allowed, gravedigging has been relaxed infinitely so, and people are more easy-going. The lives of the staff have gotten a lot easier.

The worst that's ever been seen is one guy who kept swearing, and the staff just asked them to please keep it to a minimum, with a smile. They did. End of story.

If I am not mistaken, long ago when MLP Forums had a chat room, the word "fuck" would automatically change to "buck" when you sent it. It was pretty hilarious.

To answer the question, no we shouldn't. There are no bad words, it's all about what you want to say when you say them.

fuck no, swears are the best thing ever.

plus they are just a bunch of letters together, its up to you if you get offended, like when people use slurs like dyke or sand people, if people learned to not care life would be better.

Not all swears-I don't think anyone has a problem with the usual f*ck, damn or hell, but I think the n-word should be censored since that's more offensive than those mentioned.

No. I guess I have to give a reason to. Ok, I do occasionally swear in my posts here. I don't do so to be vulgar or because my vocabulary is lacking. I do so because it fits organically with the mood and tone of the post I'm typing. As long as it is not directed to an individual, or made with the intent to invoke a reaction, profanity should be acceptable if used appropriately and within reasonable amounts. Even with no replacement filter setting on, members here are really not profane.

We actually already have a policy on the books. Everyone is free to read it here: http://mlpforums.com/page/faq/_/moderation/what-exactly-counts-as-excessive-vulgarity-r83

Basically, vulgar language is not strictly prohibited -- but as Peppy Hare said about bombs, use them wisely. A post overflowing with vulgarities is both distracting and needless. Besides, we like being able to cater to a younger teenage demographic. :P

Because this thread isn't raising a new issue or policy proposal, I'm going to lock it. In the future, if you have questions or suggestions for MLP Forums, please make a post in Feedback and Suggestions. Thanks! :)
