I guess I no longer have any dreams, they say you can't have nightmares if you never dream, after all. ;)

I really hope my first car is a Ford. A blue Focus was my first car in both Real Racing 3 and Gran Turismo 6 (after the dreaded Fit we were all forced to buy, of course) and much of my family had Fords as their first cars.

I'd really love to own a bus one day, but, can't dream. Nightmares.

Well Good Luck Finding a affordable Ford to continue your family's Cycle of owning fords as their first cars  :D ,Also i played Real Racing 3 Way before we needed to play a race in order to unlock a car to buy so my first car in real racing 3 was also a Focus but it was Green.

I’ve got a liking towards the Vauxhall Firenza HP.

The ordinary Firenza was a pretty nice looking coupe, but the HP model incorporated Vauxhalls 70s trademark square lights and in my opinion it made it 50% cooler.

vauxhall-firenza-03.jpg

Another car I love is the mk2 Renault Clio Sport V6: I hope to get one one day.

I loved the shape of the MK2 Clio, and the sport V6 I’ve even once sat in at the motor show back when you could buy it new.

It’s the same idea as the Renault 5 turbo or the MG Metro 6r4.

It based on the ordinary 3 door Clio, but the difference is it's mid-engined and the engine sits where the back sits would usually be. It’s also rear wheel drive instead of the conventional front wheel drive. And to round it all of they stuck massive wheels, spoilers, air intakes and these door handles that are sort of obscured under the door and a racing style fuel filler cap.

I don't know crap about cars but I want a Ford, they are always the cheapest because of the assembly line was first created there or something like that.

I don't know crap about cars but I want a Ford, they are always the cheapest because of the assembly line was first created there or something like that.

To Kivil, and anyone else who this may concern...

I have a lot of knowledge about vehicles, as my dad and many other family members have taught me a lot.  Of course, as I got older I learned more on my own.

Anyway, albeit affordability is a perfectly understandable reason to want a car, but I think everyone should know at least a good amount about their own vehicle.  And I think you should know what you're looking at before you buy it.

My knowledge and experience is greatest with Fords, good with Chevys, and okay with Dodges, but of course I know some stuff about nearly all the brands.  Just, American vehicles are my forte.

's knowledge and experience (hopefully I'm not putting wrong words in his mouth here) is great with Chryslers (and Dodges), but he also knows a great amount about Nissans, and Japanese vehicles in general.

@Royce would probably be the best bet for European vehicles.

I can tell you my opinions about American brands - not to step on Chrysler's toes regarding his Chrysler/Dodge knowledge, though.

From my experience I can tell you which American cars and trucks, and which engines I know are more reliable.

If you want a Ford:

If you want a 4 cylinder, for the sake of affordability and good gas mileage, stay away from the 2.0L SPI2000.  They had issues with dropping seats, fouling plugs, and other things that led to blown engines.  My dad had a 1999 Ford Escort once.  First engine blew at 150k.  The replacement engine blew 30k later; it was a rebuilt engine that didn't fix the original issue.  Then, the second replacement lasted until we finally got rid of the car at 260k because the transmission went out.  Then he bought a '98 Buick LeSabre.  It's a nice car... Anywho... As far as I know, the Zetec DOHC version of the 2.0L didn't have the same issue.  So, the Escort ZX2's are a viable option if you can find one in good shape.

If you want a V6, stay away from the 4.0L SOHC.  They had issues with the timing chain that could end up seizing the engine.  The older 4.0L OHV version was - and is - much better.  Nearly bullet proof.  My mom has had her '96 Explorer since 2001, and has put about 120k miles on it herself since.  It's at 185k right now, and has never had any issues besides needing a new fuel pump at 180k.  But that's an easy thing to have done.  In my opinion, Ford's 4.0L OHV V6 was their best [old] V6.

If you want a V8... Well, I've never known any major issues with most Ford V8's.  The old 302 and 351 Clevelands and Windsors would last forever if you took care of them.  The new 4.6L and 5.4L Modular (Triton V8's) are just as well built.  The only small thing I'd warn against is the coil over plug, (aka, the "COP").  They sometimes go bad if they get water in them.  But I've had my 2001 F-150 for 5 years now, and I've only had to replace one COP that corroded.  Otherwise, the engines themselves are great.

If you want a Chevy:

I'm not as knowledgeable with them, but...

If you want a 4 cylinder... I don't really know much about Chevy 4 cylinders.  You'll need to ask someone more knowledgeable about them.

If you want a V6... look no further than the 4.3L Vortec.  In my opinion, it was Chevy's best V6 (for truck/suv applications).  but, if you want a car, be wary of the older 3.8L V6s.  The first series had a lot of issues.  The 3800 Series II (2) was much better.  But, even still, they also have some issues.  Dad's '98 LeSabre has the 3800 Series II, and he's had some issues with sensors, and the EGR.  We got it fixed, but not long ago it was running rough.  It wouldn't start again right after shutting it off after a long drive; had to wait til it cooled.

If you want a V8... the older 5.7L (350s) were more reliable than the new 5.3L (327s).  I had a cousin who had an early/mid 2000s GMC Sierra (the Chevy Silverado equivalent) with the 5.3L who blew his engine driving normally on the highway.  The 350s were much better built.  I'm not a Chevy guy, but if you ask someone who is, they'll tell you the 350 is Chevy's best V8.

Now, I have the 350's little brother.  Our Camaro has the 305.  The 80s/90s 305 came in either TBI (Throttle Body Intake) or TPI (Tuned Port Injection).  Our's is the TBI.  I have some IRL Chevy guy friends who call the 305 TBI bad names.  It's underpowered, sure, but I disagree with them.  It's a good engine.  It just isn't race worthy.  It's the base V8.  I can tell you that we've had a lot of issues replacing parts like the water pump, alternator, etc... But that's only because our Camaro is not a daily and doesn't get driven much.  It's a summer car; our "show car."  I wish we could drive it more, but it's too expensive to have insurance on too many cars when we don't need to drive them.

If you want a Dodge, talk to Chrysler.  If you want an import (Japanese), again, talk to Chrysler.  If you want a European car, talk to Royce.

---

All in all, I can summarize my overall knowledge of American cars with this (taking in mind, I've got the Ford bias, but have nothing against Chevy or Dodge)...

Generally speaking:

With Fords, if there's problems, more than likely it's electrical.  I had to replace a fuse/relay for my transmission once because my truck was stuck in last gear, lmao.  But after replacing it, everything is fine.

- For replacing Ford parts... USE MOTORCRAFT.  Period.  Don't buy aftermarket COPs.  Don't buy aftermarket plugs.  Just buy the OEM parts.  Believe me: I know what I'm talking about when it comes to Fords.

With Chevy's, if there's problems, more than likely it's mechanical parts, not of the engine itself, but still parts in the engine bay.  Alternators, pumps, sensors... They tend to be the most general issues with Chevy's.

- For replacing GM parts... USE ACDELCO.  Period.  Just like with Ford's and Motorcraft, use ACDelco parts for GM vehicles.

With Dodges, if there's problems... It's the transmission.  LOL.  I'm serious.  Sorry Chrysler, but you know it's true.  Now, not all of them are bad.  But I've had many friends in high school, as well as family, who've had issues with Dodge transmissions.

- For replacing Chrysler/Dodge parts... Ask Chrysler.  I'm not sure about Dodges.  But if I were to guess, likely it's the same thing.  Probably use Mopar parts, just like GM-ACDelco, and Ford-Motorcraft, it's probably the same with Dodge and Mopar.

---

For scheduled maintenance things...

When it comes to oil, and oil filters... Talk to me.

I'm a self learned oil expert.  I know way too much about oil.  Chrysler will vouch for me on that, too, lmao.  He knows me.

Getting back on topic (sorry to kind of derail this thread, OP)...

My last post considered only classic cars.  I'll give you a couple new car examples this time.

@@Miles,

I will now take the liberty to speak for all of Europe, and some might disagree with me - but when it comes to cars, Germany is the ultimate powerhouse in terms of quality and quantity.

That includes manufacturers such as Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, Volkswagen etc. I mean, the list is almost endless.

I can go into detail if anyone wants me to, but if you want a solid european car that'll never let you down, always pick German.

Thanks  :)

I would have to agree with you about German cars.

I would like to sort of de-complicate some things for any who may not know this...

---

Audi is a subsidiary of parent Volkswagen.

BMW is the parent of subsidiaries Mini/Mini Cooper, and Rolls Royce.

Bogward, originally from 1924 to 1963 - then defunct - then back again in 2008; and since 2014, Foton (a Chinese automaker) owns the brand.

Ford Germany is a subsidiary of Ford Europe, which, is a subsidiary of Ford Motor Company (United States).

Mercedes Benz is the parent of subsidiaries AMG, McLaren, and Maybach.

Opel is a subsidiary of General Motors Company (United States).

And... the big one... Volkswagen.  VW has a lot of subsidiaries:

"Volkswagen Group sells passenger cars under the Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Porsche, SEAT, Škoda and Volkswagen marques; motorcycles under the Ducati brand; and commercial vehicles under the MAN, Scania, Neoplan and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles marques" (Wiki).

So, speaking strictly German parent companies... Germany has a "Big 3" similar to America's Ford, GM, and Chrysler "Big 3."

BMW, Mercedes, and Volkswagen.

Now, many would argue that Germany's Big 3 should be Audi, Mercedes, and Volkswagen - but Audi is a subsidiary of Volkswagen.

---

Getting back to America's Big 3 now, (and to make things easier, I'll substitute "owns" rather than say parent/subsidiary)...

Ford owns Lincoln, and used to own Mercury before they went defunct.

GM owns Buick, Cadillac, Chevy, and GMC; used to own Hummer, Pontiac, Oldsmobile, and Saturn before they went Defunct.

Chrysler owns Dodge, Jeep, and Ram; used to own Plymouth before it went Defunct.

However, Chrysler is now basically owned by Fiat... As, the company is now called Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.

Ford and GM are still themselves their own companies - they own themselves.

Hoo-boy, another favorite car thread.

I've never been the kind of guy who could pick just one favorite car, there's just too many of them that I like. So what I think I'll do here is just list off a very limited selection of cars that I really like and we'll call that good.

As far as the car I would generally most like to own, that would be the Chrysler Conquest TSi, which was of course just a re-badged Mitsubishi Starion ESi.
6156cf4832d3180ced04c9c1223a202a3a8c1fa0

As for my personal pick for the most beautiful car ever made, that'd have to be the 1960 Lincoln Continental Mark V breezeway sedan.

1960_Lincoln_Continental_Mark_V.jpg

As for my favorite trucks, those would be the 1957 Dodge Sweptside, and the 1960-61 Chevy Fleetside.
1957-dodge-d-100-sweptside.jpg

1008c8ba95055fc01da4a66890df98ee.jpg

That's about all the pictures I feel like providing, so I'll just list out a few more.

Nissan Silvia S13
Nissan R32 Skyline
1957 Chrysler 300C
1954 Mercury Monterey
1976-78 Chrysler CL Charger and Drifter

Of course I have to include my 1999 Chevy S-10 on this list as well.

There's a lot more, but I really don't have the time, room, or patience to continue.

Oh man I love old cars too, do you like old Ford Mustangs and Plymouth Furies?

I love Ford Mustangs and Plymouth Furies, but if I had to choose between the two, I'd go with the Plymouth Fury. :D

Ever since I was little I've been a huge fan of corvettes. I love how they look, how fast they are and how great the technology that's inside them.

My dream car basically is the 2015 Corvette ZO6.
