What is your opinion on "Human in Equestria"?

They're quite bad. Most of them tend to be like this:

 

"Human finds a portal and enters it, miraculously taking him to Equestria. He then befriends the mane 6 and becomes the seventh element of Harmony."

 

You just described the other Sunset from the plot of EG5 (after the events of the MLP 2017 movie ended with the destruction of the Tree of Harmony and the reveal of the lost gemstone in the roots).

HIE can be quite enjoyable if done right. Waving them off as all good or all crap is pretty dumb tbh. Talking about them in general w/o any recommendations doesn't really push the fandom forward toward the better ones.

 

 

My Top 5 recommendations are

 

 

Your Human and You - For Equus, humans have always been viewed as animals, creatures that could neither think nor reason.  That's the way it has been since humans were first discovered nearly a thousand years ago.  All that changes for Twilight Sparkle, newly crowned princess of Equestria, when she finds out that her human is as intelligent as she is.  Max, a human from Earth, finds himself stuck in a world where ponies rule and humans are treated as pets.  Now, with the help of his "owner", he must adapt and learn his place in this new world.  That shouldn't be too hard, right?

 

 

Diaries of a Madman - When Discord breaks free of his stone prison, he proves to be much older and wiser than he was on the show. Stardust - Isolated from her friends and taken prisoner in the middle of a war, Twilight must deal with the very real dangers of being percieved as an enemy as well as the nightmares of her arrival on 'Earth'.  Can she overcome her own fears and the fears of her captors?  Will the wayward unicorn's assistance be a boon or a curse to the 'humans?'  Most importantly, will she ever find her way home?"In short, it's a story of friendship and plasma rifles, with the emphasis on the friendship. The characters are well written, the XCOM setting is fleshed out very well, and the story is compelling. If you love XCOM, you'll love the story, but even if you've never heard of it, it's more than worth giving the first 3 chapters a read.  There's excellent action later on, but the real strength lies in the collision between the friendly and naive world of Twilight Sparkle and the desperate world of humans fighting a losing war for survival and willing to do anything to turn the tide."  (Technically pony on future earth but why not)

In my opinion, HiE stories can be great if done right and, trust me, it takes a very talented and creative writer to make a good HiE story because I've seen a lot HiE stories that are completely terrible.

I love Human in Equestria. It's actually my favorite genre in fan fiction of this fandom.

 

Especially if it involves a romance between a human and a pony. Yeah, it may be wish fulfillment, but I'm a big fan of interspecies romance between two sapient beings.   Two of my favorites of this kind: Xenophilia by AnonponyDASHIE and Gentleman for Mares by Demon Eyes Laharl.

 

Yes, maybe I have poor taste in fan fiction. But I also like to read grimdark HIE other than just human x pony mushy mushy romance. Like You And Your Human (by MadMaxtheBlack), The Conversion Bureau: The Other Side of the Spectrum (by redskin122004)  and Stardust (by Arad).

 

Those stories have lots of death and suffering, yet hope of something better if the protagonists work hard enough.

Personally, I'm not a fan of HIE fics. Most come off as self-insertion, or "you-insertion". Humans like to throw in a human character (even in settings without other humans) because it gives the writer an easy viewpoint in a fantasy world, and the ability to tell the reader how to react to things.

It doesn't help that the "human in Equestria" ends up being really bland and boring. I do feel these are more made for the author to indulged in their fantasies rather than a general audience.

That's something trait of the human in Equestria I typically see that I forgot to mention. Usually latching on some tragic backstory in an attempt to make them more relatable. Personally, I've seen way too many fics and stories with this trope so it would probably make me roll my eyes.

Yes, quite a few have emo characters. And whiny misanthropes. 

 

Quite a lot have wish fulfilment. (I like wish fulfilment, I must say) And I'm one of those weirdos that like human and pony romance.  

 

Clearly, HIE isn't for everyone.

I think HiE fiction can be really good , yes it's the same story all the time but i really enjoying all my readings of HiE fiction. After i on't really like the fiction of ponys in our world.

If well thought out, I think even the most absurd ideas can be good fanfics.

 

That said, I don't really like the idea either. Humans...just somehow don't really fit in (even though there are monkeys in Equestria, but that's a different debate altogether).

There will always be good and bad HiE fanfics. The self insert ones I never seem to enjoy.. But there is one thing that always makes me wounder. Iron Will is a Minotaur aka part bull and part human. theres also Terik who is a centaur. which are normally horse and human. (Though i think Terik is more of a bull rather then a horse but thats another topic)

 

when it comes to HiE I never seen to much dealing with the past unless its  humans roamed, caused the end of the world, and candy colored ponies came.

 

But having these two characters show up it always feels off about to me when people say that humans dont belong in equestria... because if thats so then why are there are two cannon characters that are part human? Humans may not exist in the currect equestria as we see but there are creatures who more then likely have human decedents at some point.

There are SOME good ones

I'd go with

History Repeats by Saddle Soap Opera.  The Smooze returns, so Luna sends Dash over the rainbow to get help from EQ's greatest hero -Megan Williams.  After all, she beat it once, she can do it again, right?  Couple of little problems.  1)An older Megan is suffering PTSD & isn't really up to the job. 2) The Smooze was beaten by the Flutter Ponies & there ain't none no more.  Oops.  Probably the best G1 crossover.

 

Griffin the Griffin & the incomplete sequel Falling Feathers (much grimmer). Fairly self explanatory. Part of the Chess Game of the Gods series (whole bunch of humans get dumped in EQ after Return of Harmony) which apparently was started in 2012 & regrettably abandoned in 2013.

 

My Little Balladeer John the Balladeer answers a call for help from EQ.  Great if you're a fan of Wellman's stuff & not bad even if you are not.

 

The Rise of Darth Vulcan  Human takes the attitude "This is Hell, nor am I out of it" & uses the Alicorn Amulet to become a super villain.  Currently a work in progress & may be going off the rails, but excellent so far.

 

Going the other way

 

All American Girl Rarity's oldest foal gets sent to Earth by a magic lightning bolt.  Sequel to Kind Hearts & Coronets but you don't need to read that to enjoy this

 

Stardust (as recommended by Free Wave)  Discord sends Twilight to Earth.  I'd never even heard of X Com & I enjoyed it.

 

HOWEVER

The idea has been Done To DEATH!  It is probably the most over used idea in fan fic

Well yeah, the OP brought it up, humans just don't physically exist in that world. Which I think is fine. There are no human characters in the Lion King and is there a big cry for them to be there?

 

Now, as for the concept of a Earth native traveling to Equestria . . . . well Friendship Games seems to tackling that as well. (Man does that spin off exist for the purpose of bringing fanon into canon?) I understand it's been done for a while though and I won't say I'm against it, but the best versions in my opinion are the ones that make said human an actual character and not an embodiment of the author's misanthropy, either by carrying their views themselves or representing them in their behavior.

 

The best examples I can name are Through the Eyes of Another Pony and The Ballad of Echo the Diamond Dog.

Well... I think there should be a human character in FiM. However, I think a human should change into a pony in Equestria. I rather go with Megan Williams. 

 

And here's the back story I wrote about Megan Williams (The FiM version) :

 

Megan Williams is a average dorky girl who's having a very hard time in her human world. She’s having trouble to make friends, she even didn't get along with adopted parents. Megan always wish for to live in another world where she can be totally happy for the first time. Until Rainbow Dash drops by from Equestria. Raindash Dash thought she was in a different world (In a wrong place) so she can find some kind of powerful Wizard to help save Twilight and Equestria. Megan and RD introduce themselves and RD find out that the girl's name is Megan (But RD likes to call her The Megan). RD tells Megan that she is going back to Equestria with her to help with her friends. Megan protests that she can't do anything to help.. But she decides to make things up to pretend that she’s sort of a powerful wizard so she can try to leave her own cruel world just for a better life. RD thought that Megan is the answer to all their prayers, and eventually convinces the girl that maybe she will be able to help Twilight and her friends.

 

In Equestria, Megan turns from a human to a beautiful attractive earth pony, although she got no cutie mark. But she does make new friends with the Cutie Mark Crusaders (Now they have cutie marks) and become the oldest member of the club.

 

Megan in her pony form have no power or magic in her… but only the Rainbow of Light she can used. However, she needs to learn something from the locket first before she knows how to gain power from the Rainbow of Light. And the Rainbow of Light is way different then the G1 version. The Rainbow of Light it appears to be a simple rainbow color, heart-shaped locket, and it made from hard rocks.

 

 

So what do you guys think? Since Twilight visit the human world maybe it's Megan turn to visit in Equestria as she turns into a pony and maybe she can learn the true meaning of Friendship.

 

I think a human changing into a pony in Equestria is a great idea!

To be honest, I love Human in Equestria fics.

 

IF THEY'RE DONE WELL. I dislike 'Brony in Equestria' (with SOME exceptions, but only a few)

 

A interesting concept I saw was human gets transported to Equestria from a Earth with no MLP, and is oblivious to the pony's existence until he comes into contact with them, and he can't speak Ponylanguage.

If humans were in Equestria we'd probably just end up messing everything up. Equestria has a certain balance in place and it'd probably be messed up by the introduction of another species, especially one that is developed. One kind I sort of like the ones where the human gets their memories slowly erased or altered, and is transformed and things like that. Those ones I like if they're decent, but any human in Equestria story where everypony knows they're human and all that stuff, that requires a lot of tact to pull off.

I think Equestria as a distant planet or another dimention.Human in equstria is a posibility.But olni in distant future.Wean we would devolop some kind of inter dimentional traveling.And why people turn in to other specie.I think it has to do that equstria girls univers is not original.Wath I mean is that it can be over writen by magic coming from Equestria.We on the other hand are in origina univers.Meaning that if human was able to travel to Equstria he would not turn in to pony.And magic would not help.As human of original univers.We are invasive and preditor race.That is shown by our history.We figth almoast all of our history.War become part of our species.And thear is no magic that can erase that.We are wath we are.
