Episodes that turned out differently than you predicted

So I was just thinking about the season 5 Episode 1&2 again. Being how the show is- I figured all would be well and good at the end as usual.

I figured those episodes would just be the mane 6 resolving the issue by teaching the "cult" that it's good to be different and have special talents, yadda yadda...THE END!! :squee::pinkie:

I thought Starlight was just as loopy as the rest and believed in her own BS just as much at first. (I

don't know how I didn't notice her increased color saturation.)

I wouldn't have expected such a deceptive and manipulative character to EVER be in this show- OR BRAINWASHING for that matter! ^_^

Individuals like Starlight are what scare me the most in the real world.

For example, some of the worst criminals can sometimes appear to be some of the nicest people.

We still don't know what her true motives/ultimate goal was either. To top it off she's still out there- just silently waiting... watching...menacingly! (for all we know she's in the mailbox!)

Whenever I see people say stuff like she's not scary, or the episode was boring I'm all like...

Anyways, are there any episodes went WAY differently (plotwise) or ended differently than you were expecting?

Rainbow Rocks... at least how it could've looked... in a stranger, more interesting dimension

For those who are wondering, Twilight is chewing bubble gum.

Episode 100.

I knew it was going to be an episode featuring the background ponies but I had no clue that so much of the fanbase's interpretation of said characters was going to be implemented into the show and become canon.

Doctor (W)hooves becoming a legit character was totally unexpected for me.

I guessed it was going to be out there and crazy. I like how Lyra, Octavia, Dr. Whooves and Gummy turned out though. I just wish Jessi Nowack could have done some voice work for Vinyl Scratch instead of her being mute. Too bad for all the legal BS and Canada's VA rules. >_>

I didn't expect Brotherhooves Social to end up with it's heartwarming ending.

Nor did I expect the battle royal we got in A Canterlot Wedding.

I didn't expect Spike to save the Crystal Heart in the Crystal Empirel

I didn't even expect Rarity to keep her Canterlot Carousel in Canterlot Boutique.

I didnt expect Amending Fences to end up to be the best episode of the entire show.

Brotherhooves Social's ending is so touchy, i didnt expect that.

Zephyr is a terrible younger brother surprise me, i just thought he would be an awesome dude like Shining Armor, but i am ok with Zephyr.

Gauntler of Fire is first good ep of Spike for a long time.

Twilight's Kingdom was really epic in all with Tirek vs Twillight.

Lesson Zero is shockingly surprising...reasons...

Bats! turned innocent Fluttershy into a apple ravashing bat pony.

....quite frankly the first episode surprised me too and I've never looked back.

Rainbow Dash was far more noble in "Wonderbolts Academy" than the preview synopsis of her not feeling cut out for the Wonderbolts implied.

"Filli Vanilli" bringing back Flutterguy was a real treat, and a nice surprise.

"Amending Fences" just completely floored me. Nothing more to it than that.

"Scare Master" was the only episode I went into completely blind beyond the title, thanks to that early leak. It was such a refreshing experience to see it all play out, since I'm always one to read up on an episode

The mere setup of "The Saddle Row Review" was beyond anything I would've expected, making it the funniest MLP episode I've ever seen.

"Viva Las Pegasus" suddenly became infinitely more interesting when it brought up the idea of AJ actually helping the Flim Flam Brothers.

If Jessi Nowack signed on to voice Vinyl, she wouldn't be able to play Vinyl in fan projects at her own leisure anymore. Besides, MLP has gotten non-Canadian VAs before; just look at the guest stars.

I could list several episodes that didn't sound very interesting but wound up being a lot better than expecting, but a few notable episodes come to mind

Wonderbolts Academy - I expected a "I can't handle this" kind of episode normally expected from most "military academy" episodes, I also expected RD screwing up everything considering the writer it had(the same person who wrote MMDW) instead I got a more than capable RD at her best

Viva Las Vegas - I expected them to redeem Flim and Flam, and thankfully they reaffirmed that they were still gonna stick to their old ways

Magic Duel - Never expected them to reform Trixie, and they did(kinda), which more or less killed what was otherwise a good episode for me

Newbie Dash - Expected RD to be at her peak considering this was her milestone episode, a moment built up since the first goddamn episode. Instead the exact opposite happened in one of the most infuriatingly disappointing episodes in the entire show. RD pretty much forgetting all the progress she learned up to that point for the sake for a dumb joke? The WB coming off as huge bullies when they really didn't need it? A moral that dangerously comes close to saying hazing is ok? This is like, everything not to do in wrapping up an arc? It's amazing they they released the episode the way it was, it almost felt they wanted to say "fuck you" to the people waiting for this moment

28 Pranks Later - I wanted to give the writers credit, I didn't think they were dumb enough to actually redo one of the show's most infamous episodes. I was expecting them(more like practically begging) to address the episode's problems and correcting what was wrong with that episode. But NOPE, apparently what they thought what really needed fixing, was adding fucking zombies(which I actually find pretty insulting), but otherwise the episodes make the same goddamn mistakes only being even more predictable

AJ's Day Off - I was expecting a comfy episode with some funny shenanigans with Twilight and Spike. Instead they were barely in it and I get 22 minutes of nothing happening only for the ending to reveal the AJ and her family have been idiots their whole lives

Yeah, those last three pretty much killed a lot of my good will in the writers and most of my interest in the show and made me really question if the writers this season really gave a shit

What do you mean "Canada's VA rules"?

Canadian productions typically are required to use Canadian voice actors. MLP has had exceptions for guest stars and John DeLancie.

I kinda expected "The one where Pinkie knows" to be a guessing game for the audience, with Candece and Shining's big reveal in the end. Instead that opritunity was blown and we just got a mess of Pinkie gags.

I know I hate the post-marked CMC episodes...the point is: They should've disbanded in either the COTLM or On Your Marks episode...And why did they recoloured Button Mash in the first place? Maybe it was because of the C&D, right?

Slice of Life was far better than I thought it would be. I thought it'd be okay, but nothing more. I didn't expect pretty much the entirety of the fanon being crammed into it. Honestly, they couldn't have done a better job on that one.

In Every Little Thing She Does, I thought Starlight was going to clone herself using the spell she showed Twilight, but instead she went for something entirely different, and that made the episode better IMO.

Lastly, of course, Friendship Is Magic part 1 and 2. I went expecting them to suck because it was MLP. Instead, they were actually very good; good enough for me to binge watch the rest of the season immediately afterwards.

In a lot of episodes this season I thought they were going to include Starlight. For example, In The Cart Before The Ponies I though one of the CMC would have to do to the derby with her, and that would've made a much better episode imo.

The resolution of Applejack's Day Off was kind of unexpected, I seriously didn't know where the hell they were going with that. While I still think that episode is boring and kind of pointless, that made it a little better.

The ending of Brotherhooves Social was unexpected and surprisingly poignant.
