Musical episodes - A thing now?

So ever since season 3 we've gotten 1 musical episode each season, those being Magical mystery cure, Pinkie pride and crusaders of the lost mark. So, what do you guys think, is this gonna be a thing for however many seasons we have left? Or is it just coincidence? After all, Im counting season 5 in this, but it isnt even finished yet so it might have more than 1.

Also, how do you feel about musical episodes? As long they're done right I like them. As much as I like the songs in magical mystery cure, the episode was...meh. But hey, this isnt an episode review. So yeah, I like the musical eps, but dont think they should be finales, and as for the 1 per season? Uh, I could see it happening. Thoughts?

MMC has some issues with narrative and pacing but the music was great, Pinkie Pride is likely one of the best episodes in the series, and Lost Mark is just about God Tier for me.

The thing is that all three musical episodes address the musicality differently. Lost Mark feels closer to an actual modern era Broadway Musical because the music is central to advancing the plot and lyrics act more like dialog.

I'm fine with musical episodes in general ... Ingram is a genius with this show and I am in complete support of more. One or two per year.

Oh, and Mane Attraction has multiple songs too.

When was this confirmed? I must've missed that update. That said, I'm glad to hear it, I always get psyched for new songs

Seeing how all of said episodes (Magical Mystery Cure, Pinkie Pride and Crusaders of the Lost Mark) are some of my all time favorite from the show, and the songs are some of my favorite things about FIM,

I would be perfectly happy if musical episodes are now a thing.

I recognized the theatrical quality of the music in that episode as well.  I think it really added to it in a good way.

I love musical episodes, so I wouldn't mind if they made more musical episodes per season that they have been doing.

Magical Mystery Cure had better pace and a good flow of songs. Though DT's solo song in Crusaders of the Lost Mark pretty much beat all of their songs put together in my opinion. The episode itself was.....just no.

Regardless, the songs in both these episodes were needed to speed up things. And what better way than to squeeze a long scene into song?

Pinkie Pride....I think that was more of a musical because of the guest star.

I'm in the minority, but I don't like the show's music. Musical numbers were pretty cool in the early seasons, but now that there's one nearly every other episode, it's hard to get excited for a new song.

I also find it harder to pay attention to a song's lyrics compared to just normal dialogue.

The songs from the three musical episodes are mostly unmemorable: I can't even remember the melody of a single song from last week's episode. Some of the lyrics from "Pinkie Pride" were really atrocious ("Me" does not rhyme with "Cheese"!), and "Magical Mystery Cure" is one of my most hated episodes, although there are more reasons for that than the subpar music. Thankfully, the actual plots of the episodes (Except for MMC) were still pretty good.

I'd prefer if they dialed the songs back a bit. Make it more like in season 1, when there was only a small handful of "big" musical numbers spread throughout the season, so it feels like more of a special moment when they start to sing.

I love musical episodes because I really enjoy most of the songs. In fact, Pinkie Pride is so far the one episode featuring a lot of songs that I didn't like much, the sole exception there being Make A Wish.

Probably I am the only one here who is not particularly interested in these songs. Some are nice (especially remixed) but I find them childish for my taste in music. After all, it is a cartoon aimed primarily at children, so I do not care much about them. I follow the lyrics of the songs in order to understand what the characters want to express through the song, but nothing more and nothing less.

For this reason, I do not particularly like the musical episodes. But I must admit that some of them give more strength to the emotions and situations that the characters are experiencing at that moment.

Seems like an odd argument to make. So you don't care much about the show in general either?

I was referring to the songs, not the animated series itself.

You were, but your argument was that since they were aimed at children, you didn't care much for them, but the series itself is also aimed at children. So the same argument should logically apply there.

Tsk..I don't know if I understood well what you wrote. But anyway, it is not the same thing. Here we are talking about musical episodes. And I have expressed my opinion about the songs: I find them very childish. There is nothing wrong, but simply I don't like them, apart from a few that I find nice or funny.
Songs aside, I find very nice the show, but I can't write here what drove me to watch episodes of a animated show aimed primarily at children: this is off topic.
Rather, the legitimate question would be: what drives you adults bronies to love (and maybe sing) songs with childish "sounds"?

I, for one, LOVE the musical episodes. Crusaders of the Lost Mark was fantastic. I loved how the characters forwarded the plot while they sang with and to each other. I would love to see more episodes of this quality.

I'd have to agree with you on this one. Songs used to be special and big musical numbers, and now there is one almost every episode in the new season.

Out of the 19 episodes so far this season, four of them has had a song in it, one has had multiple. The Cutie Map - Part 1, Castle Sweet Castle, Tanks for the Memories, Canterlot Boutique and Crusaders of the Lost Mark. You could argue Brotherhooves Social had a song, but eh.

I'm personally okay with them. They only happen once a season so it feels like a treat when they come. I've noticed that whenever they do come around, it's during a big character change or a big moment in a character's development. It does help tighten the mood since it makes it easy to give characters depth. The biggest issue with them that the 3 commonly share are pacing issues which mostly comes from transition. I think the writing staff seems to have trouble thinking of the proper pace to move at.

I don't remember Pinkie Pride having any pacing issues. MMC and CotLM did have a rather fast pace, but the fact that they were musicals were the only reason they were able to convincingly cover the big emotional beats needed within 22 minutes. I think the songs do a good job of that.
