Songs that sound like other songs(RE: If Thread already, please Merge)

Hello, I was listening to that Onerepublic Song, and guess what? The riff completely ripped off the riff from Art of the Dress. When I Listen to it, I always think of it. I'm not too keen on this and I wish they used a different riff. In all fairness though, Art of the Dress is derived from ''Putting It Together(State of the Art)'' by Sondheim. What do you think?

I'm not too keen, I hate it when a song ripped off another song, the only songs I am OK with that use the same chords are the ''These Four Chords'' songs and the ''Doom Chords''.

Well, I am not sure that they are ripping off anything, they dont really sound alike, they might be in the same key be that is about all.

However with that said I dont really like the one republic song, it is trying way to hard to be sad.

Look man. Music has existed for hundreds if not thousands of years. Every possible thing that can be recognized by a human being as "music" has already been done.

So it's hard enough for musicians to try to make something vaguely original without silly people accusing them of something embarrassing like ripping off a little girl's cartoon show.

Anyhoo.

The only similarity between the two is that they're about in the same rhythm and use a similar instrument.

Still, I'm starting to hate it, that riff is not a very common one, unlike the ''Four Chords'' and the Doom Riffs. Which were used in Metallica.

Is anyone with me? The riffs of Doom?

I'm with ya. Also, listen closely, those songs are similar. Then again, what would you expect from mass-produced mainstream Lowest-common-denominator corporate-owned fake-music?

Obviously one of them ripped off the other, only logical explanation really

Wasn't like... All of Doom's soundtrack blatantly ripped off from metal bands of the 80s and 90s at the time? I'm pretty sure it was...

It goes the same ''Ding Ding Ding Ding'' listen closer.

Surely you must realize that in text form that has virtually no meaning to anyone here...

This, exactly. Here's a Vsauce video that explains it some more: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DAcjV60RnRw

Listen closely Therepublic pitch stays the same the whole time. In the Art of the Dress the pitch changes from time to time.

And eventually you will find songs that have a similar sound wavelength every now and then but it's not because they ripped off anything.

Vinesauce is absolutely right, but here's a funny theory I have about musical chords.

During the Incident before Noah's Ark, someone sang a drunk song in a tavern that insulted God. God got so angry that he limited the amount of chords.

Anyways, I'm going to check out everything he has said.

Vinesauce is absolutely right (...)

I laughed, you called him vine sauce XD.

His channel name was created from a random word generator, so I'm sure the 'v' doesn't stand for vine.

Also, I like your theory about the number of chords.

I thought he was the same person?

Found one similarity in between two songs.

After Burner, ''Final Take Off''. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U4q7uHdURTo

Specifically 0:50 to 1:10. Is similar to the main chorus in the Teletubbies theme.

The riff of both is also in Ghostbusters.

Also, I thought Vsauce was the same person as Vinesauce.

I don't see any connection. A lot of music sounds like other music now a days, and people are quick to accuse someone of copying others.

You know Art of the Dress itself is a ripoff of an older classical song? Much of Ingram's best work in the show is heavily based on specific prior compositions (i.e. ripoffs.)

Did you miss the part where I said it was based on ''State of the Art?''. Sorry. But I think you missed what I said.

I found another two similarities between songs. Virtua Fighter vs Zelda Main Theme.

Fun Fact: I actually made some Game of Thrones parody lyrics for the Zelda Theme. ''Hodor, the Legend of Hodor, And his Pal Bran!''.

If memory serves well, "A Long way from Equestria" and "Bleeding Out" by Imagine Dragons have the exact same chords, Em-C-G-Dm.

A lot of songs have the same chord combinations, so I don't think a song could be a call a ripoff just because they have the same chords.

Man, I love hearing similarities between songs! The unintentional coincidences are just magical!  :pinkie:

But I especially love it when a Japanese song sounds similar to an English song! For example, there is a song called "Dokomademo Shinkenger" that sounds just like "Miss Independent" by Kelly Clarkson. There is also another song called "G9! Tune Up" that sounds just like Van Halen's "Dreams". And lastly, the intro to "Out the Speakers" by A-Trak sounds kind of similar to the intro from "Climax Jump Gun Form".

It sounds nothing alike.

Weird, I can't find any similarities between those two. (And I did marching band in school too, lol, so if it's obvious then my bad XD) Also old skool zelda ftw

Yeah, it annoys me when fic writers attempts to make sound effects. Every time they do that, I'm like...
