Now mine is derpy hooves, if you couldn't tell, but I am not like most derpy fans. I don't "Worship" her, I think that she is cute, with or without derped eyes. Then behind her is Octavia, Lyra, and DJ pony.

Octavia manages to be very dignified and classy despite being a cartoon pony, sort of like Rarity. So I love her for that. Carrot Top is just too cute to not vote for. Ditto for Nurse Redheart. ^^

The Mane 6 and the Princesses does not count as a background pony. CMC too. (Obviously...LOL)

 

My favourite background pony is probably Princess Chrysalis, the changelings!

They are really cool, I like that the changelings can like copy others which is amazing!

Chrysalis is the main antagonist of A Canterlot Wedding, not a Background pony 

 

Anyway my favorite background ponies are Lyra, Octavia and Cloud Chaser mostly because they all have great designs

Cherry Berry is my favorite one. I noticed she is in the background ponies allot so far in season three. Also derpy is my other favorites

I'm gonna have to go with Berry Punch or Octavia. I don't really know why I like Berry, but Octavia can play the Cello, so I think that's awesome.

Background Pony doesn't mean the same as secondary, one shot or minor character.

 

Background ponies are the likes of Lyra, DJ Pon3, Derpy and Dr. Whooves.

 

My favourite background pony it the Doctor. The amount of potential for this characters is infinite, and oddly enough the premise of a time traveling pony from an ancient civilization fits for the show.

 

As to minor character. Shining Armor. I really loved his relationship with Twilight and love the idea of exploring how he went up the ranks ot the Royal Guard.

Oh God, so many. I don't even know where to start... From the more popular background ponies, I like Lyra, Cheerilee, Apple Fritter, Lotus & Aloe. But there are many others I adore because of their design: Dizzy Twister, Flitter, Twinkleshine, Thunderlane, and Pokey Pierce!   Gotta love dem pretty background ponies.

My favorites are Vinyl Scratch, Octavia, and Derpy. I really think that all three of them should interact with with one another and other characters like the mane six. I know that Derpy has in "The Last Round Up", but parents complained about her appearance for some reason, so she had to be removed from the episode.

Derpy Hooves hands down.  there is something very wonderful about our muffin loving mailmare.  I love the way she doesn't let her clumsy nature bother her.  She just picks herself up after falling down and does it with a smile on her face and there is something truly special about that.  No matter what happens to her.   she represents the little things in the show that makes it just that much more amazing.

I'm not particularly attached to most of the background ponies but I have a soft spot for Cloud Kicker since she stars in one of my favorite fanfics. I'll vote for her.

Noteworthy/Blues is definitely one of them, since I read that fic shipping him and Pinkie.

The more decently-known ones, I think, would be Cloud Chaser, Lyra, Colgate/Minuette, and, um... a few others. xD

Most of the time I'm not really liking the background ponies, just being like "Oh, here's this one again" or looking for pegasi/earth ponies in, say, Canterlot. :>
