gaming Nintendo 3DS owners: Do you use the 3D?

I don't own one yet, but thanks to my brothers with each of their own 3DSs now (the middle with his New 3DS XL and the youngest with his original 3DS), I did get some decent gameplay experiences from them with and without 3D, so here's my take:

Occasionally, yes I will use the 3D whenever I feel like I want to use it.

A bit off-topic: It's no question about it that I love 3D. I have an ASUS 1080p Passive 3D monitor as my secondary display and I really want to get one of LG's 4K TVs that still uses Passive 3D, cuz if you ask me, Passive (Cinema) 3D is the best glasses-based 3D tech, probably ever.

I use the 3D quite often, but once the battery gets to two bars I turn off the 3D and set the brightness to 3. When away from home, I do not use it. The 3D is a nice gimmick and I absolutely love it.

I don't. Between the fact that it tends to hurt my eyes and that it adds literally nothing to a game I just don't care about it. Plus I think it kills the battery so why bother?

Oh look, the characters look like I can actually see behind them..except I can't unless I turn the camera. Which I can do even without the 3D. It's all a lie. :P

Only for cutscenes and some credits. Cause it's cool and using it while playing is very distracting.

I only have Pokemon games so there aren't many things available in 3D. Sometimes I use it if I want to make the battles look more intense but I usually don't. It makes my eyes feel weird and sometimes the view twitches and it won't look as good anymore. I have no idea if the problem is in my eyes or in the console.  :dash:

I rarely every use the 3D on the 3DS myself as it always seems to make the game your playing appear blurry unless you hold the console in the exact right position in conjunction with your eyes.  Even then it still feels like your having to strain your eyes to try to keep up with the action in the game.  I've always though the 3D was pretty much just a gimmik to sell the console and the games are much more enjoyable to play in traditional 2D myself but I am kind of biased I've never really been a fan of 3D in general when it comes to games/films etc.

Every now and again. Only because it eats the battery and can strain my eyes.

I only use it when I am watching a video or looking at a picture, which is very seldom.

I had it on in Ocarina of Time for a bit, but before I'd even left the Kokiri Forest I'd already turned it off. I just don't think it adds all that much. I like the fact it has a stereoscopic camera, though, simply because it's not that common.

I adore my 3DS. In fact I just bought a New 3DS XL because the batteries crapped out, and I kind of lied to my husband and said they couldn't be replaced. Then he found out they could be, and he got a 3DS, so it was a win/win all around! Anyways, no. I don't use the 3D functionality at all. It makes me a bit motion sick.

I think I must be in the minority here - I actually quite like it (I've got a New 3DS XL though, without the head tracking it sounded like a nightmare).

Some games, like the Lylat Wars remaster, A Link Between Worlds and Monster Hunter I actually think look excellent with it on, and I've been lucky enough not to have had any eye strain etc because of it (yet)

I used to be 3D crazy. I had the 3D slider on maximum every time I played. Now. it's very rarely on at all. All the games I play suffer from massive frame rate drops whenever I turn the 3D on. It's really not worth it to me anymore. Same goes for 3D movies at the theater, but I digress.

I use a 2DS, so it's probably hard to speak for myself, but if I had a normal 3DS/3DS XL, I probably wouldn't use it. It's really disorienting and distracting and I feel like it would just screw me over when using it.

I don't use my 3DS often, but when I used to I would use the 3D every chance I got. I suppose it only slightly improves the visuals but U've always found it to be a neat effect. It doesn't really affect the game beyond that, but I found it was worth it. Battery life isn't an issue for me since I normally play my handhelds at home as I never really invested in them for their portability. Eye strain can be an issue but I'm a gamer. What else do I need my eyesight for? I mean, the 3D can easily wipe me out if I do it for hours on end, especially if I haven't been exposed to it for a while, which is literally every time I begin a game on my 3DS now since it's far from my primary system.

I remember when I first started Virtue's Last Reward after getting the 3DS version, since I didn't have a Vita at that point (I have since started getting every handheld multiplat on the Vita). I was so hooked I would play for 10 hours straight in 3D. The morning after my first day playing that game, my dad told me I looked hung over even though I rarely ever drink alcohol and had none the previous day. Good times.:D Of course, the sequel that finally came out doesn't have the 3D effect which makes it pointless to a Vita owner as 3D was the one advantage the 3DS version had before. I normally like to play complete series on one system, but I had to go with the Vita version this time. I guess I don't miss the 3D effect, I just like to go with the option that provides the best visuals, and hence the best immersion. With 3DS titles that means occasionally wiping myself out with the 3D effect.
