Various providers (whomever was cheapest), then Zoom (1998), LibertySurf (1999), Tiscali (2000s), AOL (2004+), Sky (2006+), TalkTalk (2008+), BT (2010+), and now Ziggo (2010+) (in that order).

My dad's had an internet connection since 1998. Though it could have been longer. I'm just thinking of the first time I saw him actually use it for something. Don't know if it was dial up. I don't recall ever hearing the sound associated w/ it, so we may have actually used DSL. The good stuff back then. Then we probably switched to broadband between '03 & '06.

I don't know when my parents got dial-up internet. All I know is that I wasn't allowed to use the internet until around 1999/2000. I do know that we got high-speed internet in July or maybe early August of 2004.

If I remember correctly, I was born into having an internet connection, but probably didn't use the internet until about 2002 or something. If I remember correctly, back then I was with Optus and we were on Cable. Now I'm with Telstra wireless and man the internet has changed a lot since I was a kid.

Well, I've had internet almost all of my life. Other than last week. It came back on I think Friday. It's okay internet. Not that great. Ping is usually about 90ms when it's not going crazy. The internet I have now is from the only local provider, Guadalupe Valley Electric Company (being that I live in that area).

I remember way back when we had dial up in like, 2003, but that did not last long. So the first time I got a long-term connection was when we got DSL in the summer of 2008, have had internet since. We switched to broadband in 2011 I think. Broadband is definitely my preferred service.

I would guess it was back in 1998. I had an email account before I even had internet at home because my high school had required that we all needed email. And we had to make it a yahoo email, I still use the account once in a great while. Then when my family had the internet, it was the classic 56k modem dial up. That noise still haunts me and I remember when someone was on the internet no one could use the phone. We also had AOL so everytime I logged it I heard the "welcome" voice. The internet was boring when it first came out and my connection used to drop all the time and then I had to sit there waiting for the internet to dial up again.

I lived out in the boonies, so I had dial-up from about 2008 until my freshman year of college in '13. Didn't have any kind of Internet at all before 2008. I switched from generic broadband to Googe Fiber in '15. I hope they go nationwide with Fiber eventually, it's such a nice system and it works flawlessly.

All I can remember is having dial-up internet that was sold from Walmart, and I used Netscape. My uncle used some sort of splitting technique on the phone line, that gave us double speeds.

Oh god...it had to have been when I was very young because I don't remember. I vaguely remember messing with the dial up in the mid 90s, but I don't know if that's when we got internet for the first time or if we'd had it and they were just fixing it. I knew how to log into the dial up before I knew how to use the rewinder for my favorite VHS tapes. Ok that might be a bit of a stretch since that was literally just hitting one button, but I grew up with a tech-savy mom.

We had dial up until I was in 8th grade I think - which was really sad because high speed internet was around by then and all the commercials implied that everyone could have it, and my mom worked for Verizon (technically still does, but they jettisoned her department a few years back and renamed it Frontier). It took Verizon years before they extended high speed internet outside of towns so that we could access it in our 'country home' which was literally half a mile beyond the town line. It's actually because of that crap that I got my first cell phone. I was highly involved in school and had a lot of band, choir, etc practice (not to mention concerts, and a couple school dances) and I'd get stranded because someone would always be on the internet so I couldn't call the landline. And I could never remember my mom's cell phone number. At least, that's what I told her   :smug: .

Probably around the year 2000. I still remember being a kid and getting yelled at for picking up the phone while my parents were using the PC... Dailup was so amazing.

Ever since I can remember. I was born in 1996, so I probably started to use it around my 10th birthday. But I didn't use it for anything aside from looking up camping info and such.

I didn't use YouTube until like 6th grade. I was kept in the dark, haha. Didn't even know about it until several years later.  :awuh:

I only started to use social media and forums around 15 years of age.

  • 4 years later...

Around 1998, as I finally got a chance to download some important Sonic The Hedgehog ROMs to play in an emulator :kirin:

I have my own working analog phone system at my place, so I might buy an ISP server so I can dial-up again and hear that wonderful modem sound
