I wish Thorax had a longer arc

I like Thorax, I really like him actually, I think he is one of the better characters introduced in the past few seasons. Although a Part of me wishes he would have had a longer arc even if it was just one more build up episode.

I personally wish we could have seen him leave the hive and go to the crystal empire and the struggles that came with it, being alone, with no one, not even his brothers. Followed by The Times they are a Changeling, and then To Where and Back Again. When I reflect on Thorax, I feel a solid backstory is what was lacking other than just "I good changeling, I want friends" I think 3 episodes would have been great.

Yeah, it would be better if he was earlier introduced in the show.

Instead, we got some mediocre episodes, they should be used for better purposes :scots:

I really enjoyed the Times they are a changeling, but I think it felt like a middle and not a beginning of a character arc.

That episode hasn't been released yet!

That's the one with Thorax's brother.

The one where Spike meets and helps him is "Times They Are a Changeling"

I am annoyed when Spike sings the song 'A Changeling can Change' and Starlight said that he is a reformed changeling, COME ON, he is not a reformed one, he already a good guy in the beginning.

Ahahaha, irony, the upcoming ep of S7 is To change a changeling, which technically an episode about reforming bad changeling...

That why i dont like The Time They are a changeling as much as people do.

I don't like Thorax's "maybe I can take this back to the changeling kingdom" speech, even if it was sorta foreshadowing. Thorax isn't a reformed changeling, or even a changeling who has "discovered a better way" - he is literally the next stage in the evolution of the changelings, and you have to wonder if chrysalis hasn't been "culling" nonconformist changelings for a long time to keep this from happening. If so, then she doesn't deserve whatever Discord has or will do to her, because she deserves worse....

Well, I think it has to do with changelings being all bad and he is not, so he is reformed/evolved. :orly:

Or just a result of mutation, an accident, not a result of enlightenment. ;) I think it would be better if Thorax was a bad changeling in the beginning (maybe less bad), oh well, we got To Change a Changeling and a reform expert - Starlight Glimmer, let reform a changeling for real this time. No changeling can escape from reformations.

I would have liked another episode featuring Thorax after The Times They Are a Changeling and before To Where and Back Again.

I feel that would have helped things about a bit.

The thing is, it may have been better if he had received a longer arc, that also ties deeper to the changeligs and Chrysy. One introduction episode only to culminate in the 2 part finale of the same season feels like wasted potential. Sure, we'll get a couple more episodes, but he's already on top, and the struggles before reaching it are usually greater than the ones after

Actually I'm planning to give my Changeling OC a story arc within Seasons 6 and 7 with a few flashback episodes that ties into The Canterlot Wedding and the Perfect Pear. Wouldn't that work better?

I don't think so, not in the show at least

I think Thorax could have been one of the more memorable mini arcs in the series, it could have made season 6 more impactful as well

The Crystalling releases, people spot the changeling in the backround and come theorize like they did last time.

But then, say season 6 episode 10 (or any number before 17) we get an episode titled "Thorax" Which takes place right when he leaves the changeling hive, we see him struggle in the first few minutes to leave, maybe Pharnyx for the continuity we would later see in s7 telling him not to go but promising not to tell.

Then we get the rest of the episode, Thorax, alone, mostly a solo episode where we see his journey from the changeling hive, all the way to Equestria, we see him leave the hive, the wasteland surrounding it, struggling with creatures and fears, his doubts about whether or not he would find a friend, at the end of the episode he now has some faith that as long as he shows he is not an enemy, he will be embraced, but instead, he has to flee because the second he walks in, guards start chasing him as the citizens scream in terror, forcing him to hide in the frozen north, where the episode ends.

This would be followed by The Times they are a Changeling, where we see this character we have learned to empathize, to relate to, to hope for, get his moment of acceptance and finally make a friend. Even though so far we only knew him for one episode, if would give so much more weight to Spikes song and his acceptance into the empire.

And it would have made the ending of To Where and Back Again, far more impactful, we would see Thorax, after struggling in body and in mind to find his way to Equestria, to finally being accepted into the ponies hearts, and then a conclusion where he brings the love he has gained back and shares it with his brothers, becoming King Thorax and sending queen Chrysalis away, once he was the outcast, now she is.

First of all, my head fanon is that my Changeling OC actually met Thorax right after the Canterlot Wedding; they planned to  run away together, but Chrysalis quietly banished the OC away, leaving Thorax to set out on his own. Left wondering what ever happened to his friend. But that's strictly in my potential fan fiction only.

Back to your point, I can agree with you. Don't get me wrong: I think what we had gotten in season 6 was okay, but your version would have been great!

I've said before, though I love "Where and Back Again", it's biggest weakness was the lack of attention given to Thorax. We didn't really know him well enough to bond with him like the others, and he kinda ended up fading into the background.

Fortunately he's got two episodes this season. Hopefully they'll help.

Actually my Head Fanon has it that while Starlight and Trixie went to the village for the Sunset Celebration, Unicorn Will Guide was meeting with Thorax in the Crystal Empire to hear more about him and his friend, the Changeling OC.

Still, I AM looking forward to the 2 upcoming episodes with Thorax.

It's kinda weird, is Throax meant to be a character for Spike's story, or Starlight's story? Cause Thorax is one of those rare characters that hang out with multiple characters in multiple occasions! Rarity's got ponies like Coco, Sassy, and Photo Finish; AJ's got Rara, the Apple family, Flim and Flam... Thorax was Spike's friend first who proved he was a good changeling, then Starlight helped come to power.

I don't believe that would've actually been passed by creative since this would require an episode where the character we follow is someone we've never met before and know nothing about. Hence why they would introduce a character by having us follow someone we're already familiar with, in Thorax's case it was an episode where we were following Spike.

Where does that faith come from? And that's kind of a bad ending to go on, you spend a whole episode following this character, seeing him have to weather through all these challenges, and is just chased off at the end? That's just a miserable ending during a story with no actual catharsis. I know it's meant to set up Spike's episode, but you said it would be 610 while Spike's episode didn't air until 616 (which was almost three months later). At the very least two parters can get away with having a more downer ender since they're intentionally meant to be continued in the next episode, which usually airs the same day.

He's not someone who needs to be restricted to just one character's episodes. A supporting character is capable of having connections to multiple main characters
