spoiler Season 8 the most mature/darkest season yet?

I haven’t seen it yet, but that doesn’t sound very impressive. Or rather, it doesn’t sound surprising. Lots of “kids” shows tackle stuff like that. Not that it’s not a cool move, but it’s just something I EXPECT any animated show that wants to leave a lasting impression to do regardless.

About one of those things

Spoiler

I wouldn't call the Divorce thing the focus of "Of Surf and Turf" To me, the parents would have to hate each other, but no. They still love each other and just simply decided to live in one world or the other world. There's a trope for that: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/AmicableExes

They Never, ever Forced their son to pick a side. It was him and the CMC who convinced themselves that he needed to chose.

And I fail to see what

Spoiler

"Nationalism" and "Adoption"

have to do with any of this.

I know adoption is for Father Knows Best, when a child has to pick between his regular parents or his adopted ones. Nationalism... you got me there.

Spoiler

Not true, actually. Many married couples divorce on very amicable terms and remain good friends afterwards. Telamar's parents aren't together anymore, but still think very highly of him and want to look out for him.

The show has lightly brushed upon the idea of disability as well as death in the family, so it doesn't surprise me that it will continue that trend. It's likely they'll do the same thing that they did in that case: they'll touch upon it, but they won't outright state that that's basically what it's about, and to be honest I kind of like that subtle approach to it because 1) it doesn't make a spectacle out of what they're talking about and thus makes the message more focused, and 2) it allows the message to be broader and thus apply to those that that specific situation may not affect.

You missed my point. I was trying to say

Spoiler

the Divorce thing is NOT the focus like the Original poster says it is in his list.

Don't get me wrong: Your words line up with mine about the parents getting along and supporting their child. It's just it STILL sounded like you're missing my point the way you wrote your response. Please be careful with me as my autism sometimes makes me very literal minded and sometimes unable to see when others are inferring something. Nothing against you personally as a person. Just a simple miscommunication, especially since we're communicating through text only with no facial expression or body language, okay.

I didn't. I was fully aware their divorce within Surf isn't the main focus and agreed with you here. I was just pointing out something that needed correction. No biggie. ;)

As for the divorce subject itself, the divorce between Terramar's parents already happened, but the focus is on the child of divorced parents. There's a little line by Terramar that implicates self-guilt for their separation, a feeling many kids IRL have when their parents break up. I'm rewatching it to find it.

In any case, it's nice to see another example

of Amicable Exes. You don't see that very often in kids shows.

Indeed. Seeing that was really refreshing.

BTW, I found the line!

Quote

Terramar: Like I said, Mount Aris is one great place to live. That's why Silverstream, my dad, and some of my cousins came back here… But Seaquestria is another great place to live. That's where my mom is.

Swetie: Oooooh. I…I didn't know that.

Terramar: No matter where I am, I feel like I'm letting someone down.

Emphasis mine.

Right...the show would be so much better if it just made absurd fun of freaking everything...

oh wait, that's done all the time.

"Darkest"-wise, The Crystal Empire is still the darkest premiere.

You have a Ponified Darkseid, and a whole region of PTSD-ridden Woobies that Celestia and Luna originally failed to save.

Spoiler

There's a chance the final season premiere will top it, BIG :dash:

I like they tackle these topics, as long as they don't over do it.
