Tell me about waifus

Quinch

Recommended Posts

Thread encouraged by the existence of these two.

So, yeah. In all honesty, up until very recently I've been thinking of waifus* and... waifu-havers? Is there a word for that? as a joke, basically, or at least an innocent if mostly insignificant fantasy. However, I've been getting the impression lately that, for some people it's a lot more than that. So, I'm extending an invitation for those in the know, be it firsthand or not, to tell me more - how does the whole thing generally work, what does it mean to you, is it a BFD and why... that sort of stuff.

Oh, and just one rule - let's keep this thread respectful, both towards those present and those who are not, mright?

Spoiler

* and husbandos, I would assume, but for the sake of simplicity, I'll just use the one word and we can assume it applies to all genders

I always thought of waifus as characters that if real, the person proclaiming them as such would fall in love with.

I have three. Oddly, I don't have any husbandos, even though in real life I have a husband.

Yomiko Readman AKA The Paper. Her intense love of books reminds me of a certain pony

That certain pony

Last, but not least. The Major from GITS. She's just so cool!

Waifus, at least how I see them are just female characters people are attracted to (Husbandos being the male version).

All my experience is with the topic is in my own attractions to some characters that I listed in a recent blog post.

I think everyone you talk to is going to have a different answer to this, because Waifus are so subjective with countless degrees of emotional (and for some, physical) intimacy.

I can't say anything about the physical one (well, beyond snuggles anyhow). I also can't say "how" it works, and I wonder if it's a similar phenomenon to hypnosis. I've heard that nobody knows how hypnosis works, only that it does. And that's the fascinating thing I discovered about waifus. I was very resistant to the idea for a loooonng time. Over ten years. I was scared that it was my eventual fate, for a myriad of reasons. When I finally just let it happen, it was incredible how much happier I was. In some weird way, I'm more content than I ever have been in a relationship before, and I don't even do hardly any of the things that most would consider "the lifestyle." I've heard there are some people who take body pillows on dates and such. Nothing like that for me. But emotionally, I just feel safe.

It'll take thousands upon thousands of years before we fully understand the human brain. And maybe it all boils down to nuances that science doesn't yet understand. But to me, sometimes the whole thing genuinely feels like magic.

Got me wondering now if anyone is researching it. Psych studies? Has anyone written a book about the philosophy of it? No idea.

Waifu/hasbando is annoying as hell (no offense anyone). I'm not against it or anything I just got tried of hearing it in every website I go to. There are fans I can tolerate with to some exceed (like here as example)  but anywhere here, I can't.

They're pretty much characters that one would considered themselves attracted to - Waifus being female characters and husbandos being male. Different people handle it in different ways. Some like having a dakimakura of these characters, while some are just comfortable with the thought of it.

Me? I don't have any, but I'm fine with individuals who do.

Waifus or husbandos are fictional characters that people fall in love with. It can work just like any kind of affection felt from afar, when personal contact isn’t an option. It can be love at first sight or something based on a character’s backstory or actions in whatever fictional setting they come from. But the concept is the same as any real life love; it’s based on the characteristics that we respond to in a loving or romantic way. In my opinion it’s no different than falling for a flesh and blood human being. I have a few that I love as much as anyone I could ever meet in real life and it feels completely natural to me. Sometimes having the option of knowing a character through their stories is easier because we have a chance to learn about them more than if we went through all the typical rituals required to know someone real in person.

Okay... considering waifu means a fictional character towards which someone feel attraction or affectionate feeling, I might have a lot of them, several if not many.

Yeah, I kinda have a kinda harem of waifus. XD

The one I love most is RD.

Sunset is the only one I prefer more as a human rather than pony.

Lyra is just... Lyra, obviously.

I like Coco for her shy and nervous atittude, kind reminds me of myself.

Nurse Redheart, she's kind, caring, and purposefully harsh as well. All what a good guy needs.

Spitfire, I don't why I like her... but maybe I have a thing or two for her bossy attitude.

Colgate/Minuette, she'd make a good spouse for a sad and lonely boy.

Derpy, I just wanna hug this little ball of innocence.

Vinyl, she looks... just perfect. Again, I like her attitude.

Trixie, why not? She's honestly the cutest and most naive reformed villain in Equestria, who can't love her.

Limestone, I think she won my heart by the fact how understanding she is. She'd be a perfect girl for a lazy and naive guy.

Plus, there are more from a few other franchises... but maybe I'll share them on a later date. Right now they'd be all.

I love Raven from the first (good) Teen Titans, but I don't like or care about any other versions of the character. Even women dressed as Raven are not Raven and I don't like them. I loved her before I heard the term waifu and I didn't know other people felt that way.

Since I will never have a real girlfriend it makes sense to love a cartoon. I'm sure a lot of guys feel the same way. A fictional character can be whatever you want them to be. They are perfect and you don't have to deal with baggage.

It is similar to my other hobbies. I would never give up my games, cartoons hobbies, or compromise on my beliefs for any woman. I can't imagine what it would be like to have a real girlfriend. So a waifu is perfect.

Basically it's just an animated character that you're attracted to, either sexually and/or romantically.

The people who take it to extremes (most of them anyway) are treating it as a big meta joke.

I would say the most important difference between my waifu and my 'normal girlfriends' is this: The normal girlfriends were far more fake.

It's gotta be Rainbow for me. I can honestly say I wouldn't change a single thing about her, and she has the perfect personality for someone like me. Seriously, she's the best.

If only she were real. She'd probably just ignore me if she were, but whatever.
