What are your thoughts on Equestria Daily?

It's a pretty swell site. I take a gander every now and then to get some up-to-date brony news and such. I'm not really a fan of the comments system though. Not the comments themselves, just the format.

Equestria Daily is the best way for me to get my pony news though I dont use it that often.

I don't go onto Equestria Daily that often but, If you want to keep up with MLP news then it's good.

I use it for news, art, and music. I dont think it was ever intended to be a site for people to chat about ponies, even if they do discussions and stuff now. I just don't like how people always bash it cuz of the comments... it's not like you have to read them. And the comments aren't going to affect what they post either. They are still a good news site and nice place to find out about new fan music and art. They are especially good at giving you youtube links to new episodes as soon as they pop up so you can watch em before they get taken down.

I don't think it's too bad.I use it for general news in the fandom and music. The art that's put up on there as well is good.  It's my go to for stuff like that because I don't know any other websites that are like that. I mean I know there are websites out there, but I don't what they are called otherwise I'd check them out too.

It's a good place to get pony news. I've seen some people here say the comments worse than 4chan. It really isn't. I see something now and then, but it's really not bad.

I personally dislike EQD. Mostly because the heads of EQD are corrupted to the core. One of the pre-readers of EQD also writes fanfiction. And guess what, the day he posted his story on fimfiction, it was also on EQD. This one person has already been on EQD 17 times! And all the same day he posted the stories online, while there are people who wait months to get a reaction from EQD, to hear if they are on the site. And the worst part is that once they get a reaction back, the story can easily be declined because the pre-readers didn't enjoy the story.

 

Another good example of this is about two stories that happened at the same time. One story was about a brony bullied into attempted suicide, and the other one was about a group of bronies harrasing a 17 year old boy on a level reaching federal crime. EQD had posts about the first story for weeks. And the other story? Didn't get one post and was written of as drama.

 

EQD is not an honest blog site, and rotten to the core 

 

Yeah I've heard about this, also that they reject stories for minor spelling errors.

I don't mind the site, don't really at it too often, makes me feel untalented Although, I think a lot of the stuff they upload is quite same-y. Plus, they denied my terrible PMV's! How dare they! XD

When I did visit it on occasion, it was only for the art. Didn't pay much attention to anything else there.

I check it out every now and again for the articles. They provide good info about fanworks and release dates, and they're very accountable. They also have lots of good fanart

The community there is pretty...revolting. I find the general attitude of the people commenting on their articles to not only be elitist and inconsiderate, but unnecessarily rude. There's this one fella who always comments on Rarity-based things literally to only say awful things about her, and I called him out on it one day because it was getting rather obsessive and a tad bit weird. He was more into hating her than he was into the show itself I pointed out how this was getting weird and that he should just acknowledge the parts of the show he does enjoy as opposed to just rambling on about what he doesn't enjoy, and he responded very angrily and called me several mean names. I mean, if you looked into it, it's obvious he wasn't trolling and that he was being sincere, hence that's the only reason I bothered responding, but that comments section is pretty terrible. I generally won't look at it when I go there and just read the articles.

I like the site well & good. Of course I don't involve myself in the comment sections all that much, but the sites pretty reliable about posting news while trying to avoid any drama. I can apprciate that.

 

Plus, I love the art & story showcases, as well as attempts to get people involved in the fandom more. Gotta love that.

I haven't found much need to be on it, nor am I really sure how to navigate it. I was happy about getting linked some good vids from there though.

Hating EQD is a bit of a waste of time. First off they've gotten better as time has progressed and they are just too massive compared to everyone else. They are the Walmart of the community, a one stop shop.  It used to be for music that they only gave out spotlights which were extremely hard to obtain, but then Music of the Day came along and that lowered the bar so many smaller musicians had a chance to get their music heard. Sure Seth will spotlight a big name brony musicians sometimes with minimal or non existent pony content as "news" but he does need to focus on popular artists and that's what people demand. I blame the musicians who leave and still submit to EQD (or their fans) rather than EQD trying to shoehorn weak pony content in (as PINO has always been an issue with the music fandom).  But its easier to get on EQD then ever although the rewards of a spotlight in views is smaller than it used to be. The lack of name recognition is still a huge obstacle that newer musicians will have a hard time surpassing. That leads to the "fandom declining" vs "growing" that people always complain about.

 

EQD do have a listening team which throws out any truly weak tracks (which is needed) although those who are doing the listening are not musicians anymore (their services were no longer needed in Oct last year and they presumably use fimfiction readers or some other team to listen to tracks). Do you have to be a musician to know a track is mixed well or is pony focused? Not necessarily tbh and maybe the critical aspects of the former musician listeners were too strict and they were definitely arguing way too much with each other i heard.  Still that's quite weird and it does seem that music has become one of the fandoms to truly be having a hard time this year. I don't know how much EQD may have caused that to be.

 

I will say the EQD app i downloaded for my phone is one of the best ideas they came out with. I can now visit the site occasionally during lunch breaks and see what's happening in the fannon as I rarely visited the site that often before it.

 

I run fimmusic of course and we've been quite aware at how little interest overall there is for our blog as an alternative source. People as a whole don't rally support or reblog making it something that continues despite lots of internal or external support. People wonder why EQD is so big when the reality is that there's few supported alternatives for news or fannon recommendations. If you want alternatives to EQD to be successful you have to support them .....

I only come across news from this site via google, otherwise I don't visit the site because I find the layout slightly chaotic/daunting/crowded for some reason.  I certainly don't hate it, just don't enjoy using it either.
