What do you think about pony death?

Clarity

Recommended Posts

I've seen pony death talked in discussions, shown in fanfics and fanart, etc.

Now, I know it "won't happen in the show" and all. But what do you think about them shown in fanon?

My opinion is...I like it.

No, I don't like the thought of a pony dying and I do not wish death on anypony. I just...love the sadness, the feeling that goes through a pony when a friend dies...like here.

I just love emotion from it, which is why pony death is fine by me, but not in that way...you know.

If the death is comedic, I don't like it.

What about you? :)

As long as it doesn't involve Fluttershy...Dimitri doesn't really mind....makes story better if character is OC or just not in show though.

In Dimitri's opinion of course.

I'm not a huge fan of it but I've grown to tolerate it over time. A lot of good fics involve it and for some reason people seem to like to kill Dash so I've had to toughen up about it. I'll read it but I prefer stories without it

Any death needs to be well-executed. There needs to be a purpose. Otherwise, it's completely and utterly out of place in the MLP universe.

I like grimdark, but not death for the sake of death. I've read a few nicely executed sad fics that did pretty well in terms of reconciling death with the themes of MLP, but also quite a few that are just plain bad.

I am absolutely shattered when ponies die, in some fanfics especially long ones they get you really attached to OC's or even ponies from the show and then kill them off and it is always heart stoppingly sad! I have found myself crying in some instances :'(

Because of this however, I find myself loving the concept! Ponies have this strange ability to bring out strong passionate emotions whether they be outrageously sad or incredibly happy! That may just be me though...

Depends on the story...

If a pony simply drop dead, then everypony would bawl their eyes out without any 'explorations' about the death part itself or why his/her death is disastrous, and everypony simply cried because "s/he was a good pony!", then I hate it.

Like Aquila said here

Any death needs to be well-executed. There needs to be a purpose. Otherwise, it's completely and utterly out of place in the MLP universe.

A good death is a meaningful death. Why a pony's death is important? What's so special? What would his/her death bring to his/her family? Is s/he a pony on a mission, and his/her death means his/her mission is failed, or maybe complete?

I think there's enough death and violence in the real world, and the last job I had. That's why I love MLP. It's a nice escape to a happy world where I can distract myself from the stuff I won't ever get out of my head...

Well to be perfectly honest, I am not a fan of death in anny kind of story for the simple reason that I really don't like to feel sad :(

My Little Pony for me is meant to be happy

Now unless they died a hero then there's an exception

It's still sad however, I can live with the fact that they died with a purpose

I don't like pony death very much in fanon either. A lot of writers just don't know how to do it right and make it a soap opera or primetime drama kind of thing, which isn't the MLP style at all, or they do it just to express their own inner depression, which I don't need to read because I deal with enough of my own. xD

The only time the idea was ever interesting to me was when I listened to the beautifully sad and somber "Dash's Empty Sky" song, and a Youtuber made an insightful comment: "I always thought Rainbow Dash would be the first of the Mane 6 to die. She would want to go out in a blaze of glory." I teared up at that point, because it was so true.

It's so sad just to think about it, I don't know if I could write it. But if I did, I would do it right.

It really depends on who died, why they died, how they died, and if it actually advances story and character development.

Still..... Celestia help us if any of the mane 6 died....... It would never be the same with out them.

Depends on how it's written or portrayed,

if it's showed with true emotion and feelings the characters would show I like it, but I usually cry my eyes out.

If it's not I'm just like wtf

Fact is, I am a comic fan. And on thing that annoys me to no end about Marvel and DC is their inability to kill someone off and make it stick (don't get me started on the whole "lost in time" pish).

I do like a good death (dramatic kind) but I get that death in real life can strike anyone at anytime so I don't have a problem with that in fiction most of the time (Comics getting rid of minor characters to to further some big event without harming the big stars annoys me as well).

In MLP, I don't see character death as happening anytime soon, but assuming it did happen, I think it would be someone like Granny Smith or a really nasty villain.

They are all gonna die horribly in civil war sparked by a coup attempt on Celestia during Friendship is Magic The Movie.

A season after that the cast will be replaced by Rodimus Sparkle with her new friends. Also Leonard Nimoy will voice the reconstructed Discord, named Galvacord.

Really it depends. Gore? Heck no. Like someone falling off a cliff with no blood? That i'd see.

I'd be a very interesting plot twist, but no killing off any majors.

I'd like to see Trixie get killed off to cause an uproar :3

I haven't read any stories so far with a pony death, however, I am writing two fic's where in one 3 die (nessessary) and the other 2 simi-main chars to that story (none from the actual show) and other unnamed die in an attack but it is also a needed part of the story, as much as I do hate having to do in the 2 simi-main chars to the story.

However, if I come across a fic with pony death in it, yes I'll feel sad as long as done right because that's just the type of guy I am.

You know what i think of when i see the words "pony" and "death" used in the same sentence?

Cupcakes.

Two of my friends watched/read it. Both ended up wanting to throw up afterwards.

ANYWAYS

I wouldn't go with a death in canon, unless it was done RIGHT.

For example, Celestia needing to sacrifice herself in order to fire a superweapon to kill / permentantly banish the big bad, but was consequently revived, having the big bad's magical influence lifted.

Basically, only if it's really dramatic and necessary for the plot. And no rmajor characters unless they're revived later on / are villans.

I'm kind of with you on this one, I agree that in a strange way I kind of like the sadness, but at the same time it makes me sad as well. I feel about it similarly to how I feel about movie deaths, when a human dies it's usually not very sad, but if, let's say, a dog dies, it's at least 20% sadder. So yeah, pony death makes me feel depressed, but I guess there should be variation in the fandom. That, and sometimes I like a sad story. I don't really know why, but sometimes I just do (My Little Dashie is the perfect example. Though Rainbow Dash doesn't die, the story is still the saddest thing I've ever read. I kind of like the sorrow you feel at the end of the story). I can't really explain it, it's just the truth.

Now if I had to witness one of the ponies' deaths in real life (One of the ponies I actually like, that is, so no Diamond Tiara or the like), that would be a completely different story.
