Season 4 Preview & Info [Spoilers]

It is true that Scootaloo is unusual in her apparent inability to fly. Given the universe, I'm guessing that flight ability has less to do with raw wing strength and more to do with innate magic (explaining how a bodybuilding giant pegasus with tiny wings can fly well and a lighter but otherwise fully developed pony like Fluttershy finds it more difficult.) If that's the angle they were going to use, then I could see how they could explore this more with Scootaloo.

 

Even so, I'd rather see them use this as more of a way for Scoots to relate to a truly disabled pony as a friend, than for Scoots herself to be the one everyone goes "Aww, poor disabled filly" with.

I'm with you. I'm not quite sure why every one wants Scootaloo to not fly. If they it make so she can't fly, she should be able to at least hover.

I agree with you and Pixel Stick. I think that Scootaloo should be more like She can't fly because she doesn't have the wellpower to do so yet rather than She can NEVER fly

I'm with you. I'm not quite sure why every one wants Scootaloo to not fly. If they it make so she can't fly, she should be able to at least hover. 

 

I realized shortly after I left that post that I should probably catch up with the thread, so I found the preview video that was posted earlier.  That made it pretty clear that Silver Spoon and Diamond Tiara are picking on Scootaloo specifically because of her inability to fly, so it looks like they're in fact going to focus on her for this.  Whether they reveal that she's actually handicapped or simply lagging behind her peers remains to be seen, of course.

 

On a more general note: Is it all right if I'm actually NOT looking forward to Season 4 being "all about the fans"?  A lot of shows have gone down in flames when they tried to "give fans what they wanted".  I'm afraid that by going all out for the brony community, they're going to lose the focus and charm that brought us all to this show in the first place.

I'm more or less worried whether they use the pony just for the purpose of being disabled. Last time we had a pony that, by our standards, might not be disabled but got treated this way by parents. (A.K.A:Derpy) If you add random ponies as a way to show disability, not only will those parents be just as mad, but the episode itself would be at risk.I am not fond of a random character with a disability because when they don't use said character, people will say 'you mad xxxXXX just the disabled pony'. At least with one cmc, she doesn't need to change like that, and its quite natural that she probably just can't fly. Not all unicorns use magic and not all earth ponies are with the instinct for the edeath or other ponies. Besides, last time we had THAT character it was a disaster. Babs was just the 'bully victim', 'bully',act, and soon it proved that there won't be much of her now. I think this has to be a pony we already know to avoid any chances of getting negative feed back from children's parents.

 

Also, she probably still hovers at least and she can grab a cloud, but it never seemed like she can very long. I wouldn't mind if she was otherwise if they never mentioned the ages and the countless 'why can Pound Cake fly better then Scootaloo' threads. I don't think her wings are proper for flying and it appears that she struggles on clouds.

 

I say this simply because we do get other episodes with illnesses but they all delt with characters we already knew.

November is usually when the snowstorms start rolling in, so I guess that's why they said winter as a tentative date.

I have heard a rumor that the episode of Luna that they showed in the video is a background story of Luna. Is this true? I hope so because I'd rather not see a Nightmare Moon deja vu, and I'd like to see Luna's story. Anypony else?

A backstory episode on Luna (or the Regal Sisters as a whole) would be fascinating - I'd love to know more about both Celestia and Luna, and what really happened to Luna that caused her to become Nightmare Moon.  That would be very cool, IMO.

 

On the other hand, if they do decide to have present-day Luna revert to NMM, I think they could do it justice as well.  Luna was shown in Season 3 as possibly suffering from a bit of jealousy toward Twilight (Crystal Empire Part 1), but that was never really made clear.  She seemed more benevolent at the end of CE Part 2, and then her unforgettable appearance in Sleepless in Ponyville put her in a very positive light.  So I think it would be a bit jarring to see her suffering from jealousy again when the ponies around her have gone out of their way to accept her, and she's being more warmly received in general than they alluded to in the very first episode.

 

That said, if they do go that route, I suspect it would be at least in part because of Twilight getting all the attention for being the New Princess on the Block.  I could see that happening.  But I wouldn't want to see her banished again - that would kinda ruin her for me, I think.

I definitely think Twilight has been warped back in time to see Luna's transformation.

 

If you look at scenes from the animatic compared to scenes from the end of the second episode of the series, it looks like both take place in the Ancient Castle of the Royal Pony Sisters. It's still in one piece and getting wrecked in the animatic, and it's already a shambles when Twilight and the Mane 6 go inside it in Friendship is Magic - Part 2.

 

So, it looks as though we're getting a glimpse as to who wrecked it years ago. Bad Nightmare Moon!

I could see the origin story or the present day ideas working. It would be a little interesting to see a mix of both, but I doubt that would happen. Either way I hope they do Luna justice. I've been waiting for another Luna episode for awhile now.

Hmm... if Luna were to start down the NMM path again, and Celestia and/or Twilight started seeing the signs that she would revert, it could be interesting to have an episode where they work to stop that from happening, and Twilight seeing the past as a way to prevent it from recurring would be quite an interesting way to pursue that.

It would be very interesting, but they definitely couldn't rush it. I don't want a rushed Luna episode anyway, but if they choose to do that it would be quite an episode, if done correctly of course.

Poor Scootaloo. I hope she learns how to fly, or at least has the ability to hover. My heart ached for her when I saw the video. I hope Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon get a face full of it   .

I hope Twilight isn't going to be the only main focus from now on I'd hate that, I like Twi but shes not my fav mane six so I hope she stays in pony Ville, I hope the season 4 opening episode focuses on the mane six all of them not just one, and that Rarity gets like three episodes this season because shes only had like three episodes the past seasons, and more AJ would awesome maby they could get Dolly Parton to gust star as one of the Apple family that would be so awesome, RD actully doing more with the wonderbolts and More Spitfire, more Pinkie episodes as well OMC how could I have forgot Fluttershy A Fluttershy episode, and more Rarishy Devloping there friendship more love those two togther as best friends

Personally this has removed all my fears for season 4. And the fact Princess Luna will be the antagonist is really nice as well. The DC one stood out as well Season 4 is coming out November the 23rd and I can confidently say that I cannot wait for it!

I saw the animatics  and I must say it looks better that I could of imagined it.  I am anticipating the "scootaloo can't fly episode as well as the superheros episode. I can't wait to see them all!
