music Songs that make you feel

Admitedly when I first heard a song by Yes, I dismissed their stuff due to it being a New Wave genre song. Oh, how wrong I was to do such a thing because here I am, rediscovering why I even feel in love with progressive rock in the first place. Just gets that flow going, y'know!

Gather 'round, kiddos.  Let Old Man Crispy tell you a tale of a time gone by, and the album that changed his life.

I discovered this band back in 2002, and this album meant (and still means) everything to me.  This band defines this genre.

Lyrics in the spoiler.  Most of you will need them.

Gentle were the words that set her free
She became the stinging rain
She became the hurricane
A drumming in my sleep
Must I breathe your name always
The last of silence as it tears away at me
All tied in knots
Cause the simple moments they add up
Awaken
Smash it apart
Awaken
Smash it apart; be free
Gentle were the words that set her free
She became the stinging rain
She became the hurricane
No love lost
Purge you animose
That serpent coiled within my stomach
Temperance fell from her without weight
Gone with the storm
We are not meant to contain the sadness of this world
I whispered in her ear and drew her close
Of calm and quiet walls
I drew her close
Of triangles and bleeding wrists
I drew her close
The drumming in my sleep
Return and be free always
The last of silence always tears away at me
Still tied in knots
Cause those simple moments they always add up
This will be the end of silence and the very last time
I can promise you that
Awaken and destroy these dreams
Smash it apart be free
Awaken and destroy these dreams
Awaken and be free

That song still gives me chills, to this day.

And since someone brought up country... I don't have much of a taste for the stuff, but what I do like tends to get a lot of grins out of people, even though it's pretty sad songs.  Lucero is one of those bands where you really feel like they're writing about you.  Ben Nichols' voice has serious grit and it just sounds like what country should sound like, in my opinion.

Hope you guys enjoy these.  I haven't long posted in a while.

"When I look out from under the sky.

And I know that, yes, we are part of this universe.

We are in this universe.

But perhaps more important than both of those facts

is that the universe

is in us."

And then the drop comes. smile.png

The song was - to my knowledge - originally part of a 25 minute mix, located about 3/4ths of the way into it. It comes at a point where you'd just begin to feel weary and tired, refreshing your senses and telling you to continue on, that the end is in sight, that you're nearly there. That's what it sounds like to me anyway! smile.png

I've got a few that I tactically use to manipulate my emotions to best suit what I need to do. For example, if I need motivation, Giving Kushinanda a Ride definitely accomplishes.

If I need to feel happy, I'll either listen to "Smile, Smile, Smile!", or Caduceus USA.

So on and so forth.

Although, there is one song that I feel should also be noted, Rammstein's "Stirb Nicht Vor Mir (Don't Die Before I Do)." This song is a feelfest, at least for me.

Actually I know a song that sounds in a way similar to this. Its a much harder hitting for everything though, but you may like it.

Music that makes me feel huh....

Bitter Sweet Symphony by the Verve. Makes me feel happy and sad at the same time so I guess serenity.

Chasing Cars Live by Snow Patrol. Not sure what this song make me feel but it's definitely something.

Numb by Linkin Park. Lets me release a lot of my frustration.

You sir (or madam), have an amazing taste in music. Bittersweet Symphony and Chasing Cars are some of my favorites. Chasing Cars is a very emotional song as it Bittersweet Symphony, just not in the same way.

Only song I like by this guy... but I get the most powerful combination of flashback/feel/inspiration/sadness/everything I can't explain when I listen to this song. As such, I don't allow myself to listen to it except on special occasions... It's too much to handle. (Example: I copied the link from a google search, I won't even risk trying to pause the video before it begins to get the link from the actual page.)

This song always makes me feel like going on some sort of adventure, or at least get up and dance. Generally, it puts me in a good mood.  I'm so addicted to it, I can listen to it over and over and  never get bored of it.

I also really like this song too. This fandom has so much good music, but Hey Sound could be my favorite song.  It makes me feel calm and peaceful, and everything about it is so smooth.

Free Fallin' by Tom Petty brings back too many memories, and parts of the video were shot not too far from where I lived.  It reminds me of LA every time I hear it.

Avalon by Roxy music also brings back the nostalgia and puts me in a peaceful mood.

There are a lot more, but those are a few I can think of at the moment.

Music has a rather special place in my life. I play music, listen to music... but mostly (for a reason I don't know) I link memories to songs. Like particular events in my life that remind me of a certain period or time. Sometimes they remind me of people too.

"Demons" by Imagine Dragons is one of those songs.

Hank Williams will forever be my all-time favorite musical artist. This song was one of my dad's favorites, he introduced me to ol' Hank when I was about 6 years old.

  • 2 weeks later...

This song emits a feeling of sadness and loneliness, but also of renewal and recovery. It is a beautiful piece of instrumental music.

This is an example of an instrumental song whose tone is completely impossible to describe.  At the same time, it sounds proud and insecure, relieved and anxious, innocent and suspicious.  And I love it for that.

I don't think I could nail down just one song that makes me feel, but I enjoy Heart of Courage by Two Steps from Hell a lot. It gives me hope that the future's gonna turn out alright.

If I listed anymore, we'd be here all year.

Daft Punk's Emotion is the best song that has ever really evoked my emotion as such. It gave me goosebumps the first time I heard it last year, and doesn't fail at that even today.
