Why do you create?

I write fanfiction for multiple reasons. One of these is the sheer enjoyment I get in expressing myself via creative writing, and its nice to know that I have talent in an art like that.

The other reason is the sense of accomplishment I get when I finish, and also when people leave me reviews. Any review is appreciated by me as it lets me know that not only did somebody give their time to reading what I wrote, but they found enough in it to leave me their thoughts on it.

Well um, I like to create signature images and avatars for myself because they make me feel much more unique, using my own creations to represent myself, as opposed to using somepony else's. That, and it's quite fun to see what I can come up with using the images I have at my disposal, mixing them together and adding my own personal touch to create something I never thought I could. Oh, and not to mention that it also gives me a chance to show off what I'm capable of as an image editor. :3

The reason I create is different, depending on what I'm making.

If I'm making music (as in, playing and performing it), the experience of actually doing it is what I like the most about it, and the reason I continue doing it. I love being able to sit down at a piano and play a string of chords, or the Tetris theme, or whatever. I love sitting down at a drum set and playing silly time signatures like 5/8 and 19/16. There's a sort of joy that's gotten from playing an instrument that, while similar to the joy of drawing and writing and other arts, cannot be replicated.

When I'm making animations, the joy comes out of the end product. Slaving over models and props for hours on end, just to make a minute-long video with Source Filmmaker, still feels worth it in the end. It's really fun to be able to imagine the Scout from Team Fortress 2 kicking the Demoman in the crotch while the Pyro bounces around happily in the background, and then make that imagination an animation.

I think the reason for creation, for most arts, is the end product. Even musical performance, which I described with a different reason for creating, requires hours of practice and is generally all about perfecting the end result.

tl;dr The reason I (and probably most other people) create is to relish in the end result of hours of practice, effort, and skill. And it's fun.

Creating things is a gift endowed to humanity. As such, I love to create music and observations on scientific research no one's ever tried. It gives us a sense of satisfaction that we made something original and worthwhile for people to see and listen. We make inventions and discoveries in hopes of making people's lives better (even if they end up doing the opposite in the long run... :()

I won't say something as cliché as "To express myself".

So instead I will say the ulterior motive as to why I would want to express myself in the first place.

Basically, I have no definite idea as to who I am. I mean, there is some consistencies, patterns, etc. evident in how I act on a daily basis, of course. But, effective reflection on myself is always hindered by those mundane circumstances. It is in the periods of great stress, need, and overall extraordinary circumstances that show one's true character.

Thus, I see art as a means of circumventing or emulating such periods in an otherwise mundane and droll life. If I am telling a story, it's to exercise my thoughts. If I am drawing something, it is to challenge myself, to push myself in an endeavor of my own choosing.

TL;DR: "To express myself"

I like the sense of making something. I actually didn't know how to do anything for a while. My godmother taught me how to crochet and I've been in love ever since. I feel so happy looking down and seeing that I'm creating something.

I create simply because I enjoy the process of creating something, whether it be practice on the piano, do origami or some other craft/ baking.  I'm not all that good at drawing but that doesn't mean I won't try.  I haven't really tried writing though, I'm not that good at writing works of fiction, a speech maybe but not something like a story!  If anyone would be so kind as to direct me to some sites that help with writing, or maybe have some advice they would kindly share? img-1369822-1-UNZJLhS.png

I do it for the purpose of expressing myself a lot of the time.  It's sort of a way to relax and/or relieve myself, I suppose.  Especially when I'm aggravated for whatever reason, it always helps to slip on some music and just draw/write whatever comes to mind.  I honestly don't do it to get known as it's far from my ideal profession but it definitely helps me when I'm feeling upset for whatever reason.  It's pretty difficult to explain but I'm certain that I'm not the only one that feels this way.

I create because I have ideas rocketing around in my brain, and I need to make them happen. :secret:

It’s also cool when I can use my creations to make people feel how I want them to feel. And double-also, making things helps confront negative experiences.

I write because I love writing, and because I've always written. I love coming up with a story and then having the characters, either my own or pre-existing ones, go through it. I love writing the interactions between them, and certain really edgy or sappy moments. I post my fanfics online because if even a single other person enjoys it, I feel accomplished, even though I tend to condemn my own stories as soon as I've written them. Everything about the writing, from the good moments to all the frustration where nothing works, is why I write.

I create to get all my ideas out, to express something I would’ve liked to see in a certain story, and to have the opportunity to inspire other people and just give them something to enjoy.

I create because I can’t NOT create. It’s a compulsion I’ve had since I was little and I’m not sure what fuels it. If I were to analyze it, I guess maybe it makes me feel like I’m justifying my existence by using the time and tools given me to create something lasting and hopefully beneficial in some small way. That’s about the best way I can explain it.

I do not create, but this question brings to mind the fact that some deep things go on inside of me that I think are worth expressing. I always like to imagine stuff such as music that has not been made or other forms of art that only exist in my head. I should commit to learning an artistic outlet to express these thoughts and feelings in an abstract manner. If I created, this would be the reason why.

I create to express how I feel and what I had experienced. And hopefully in the end, it can connect to others.

I guess I create because I like making things be it graphics or attempts at art, the later I'm not particularly good at though, I also like helping people so if there's something I can create that helps someone out, all the better.
