On the Starlight personality thing, I kinda do think she has one. Though of all criticisms against star, that she's boring is the one I get the most.

I feel like she's got this personable, slightly socially awkward veneer but right underneath it she's dry, sad and quite fearfully desperate.

That might just be how I read her though.

I'm not sure that constitutes a personality, and I'm not sure the show gets very much mileage out of that.

I mean, I can only really say how she makes me react. And I find that her appearances often make me sad. Partly because she's just so scared all the time. Most of her episodes are focused around her being terrified of losing her friends. Of them growing apart from her or her failing them or her scaring them off. When you see that kind of fear from her so much, it's plain to see that it's almost always there, she just keeps it under wraps.

I'm not saying she has a vibrant bombastic personality or anything, I just never quite saw it as the nothing others seem to.

I do get the sense that she has significant personal issues, and I'd probably like her more if the show were to take those issues more seriously.

Did you think Uncommon Bond showed that seriously? Because that was one of my favourite episodes of hers. The issue is a very real one that people deal with.

A single characteristic isn't a personality. It's a personality trait. A personality is the combination of traits and characteristics of an individual. Starlight, definitionally, has a personality. Gingerninja itemized several personality traits. Just one of them obviously wouldn't be a personality any more than Twilight getting giddy over books is a personality. It's a trait or characteristic. Chain a few together and have them be distinct or connected (or a combination) and you got yourself a personality soup.

Socially awkward

Fearful of rejection or abandonment

Sarcastic

Speaks without thinking

Impulsiveness

Occasional defeatist attitude

Uncertain of change

That's a personality soup alright.

The question is that some might not (and do not) like that particular soup.

I've had a good few months to sort through exactly why I find her so uninteresting, and for me I think it just comes down to me not finding most of her personality traits all that different from the other main characters. I dunno, her behavioural patterns are kinda indistinct to me, and I find a lot of her concerns either repetitive or hard to relate to.

I also don't find her all that funny.

I don't know, it's something, I guess. That episode bored me because it doubled down on Starlight apparently having no interests or ambitions of her ownTo be honest, I found the issue itself kinda unspecific, and I was vaguely annoyed with how Starlight handled the situation. The sense I got was that she wasn't putting a whole lot of effort into rekindling her friendship, and when she did put in effort it was usually in ways which were off-putting to me. Which is a personality, I guess, but it's not one I find endearing.

MUST...RESIST....URGE....TO.....REPLY...TO......OFF-TOPIC...STARLIGHT.....DISCUSSION........................

Marble Pie is not a Fluttershy clone, she's just an extremely flat character but her simplicity is what I like about her. Same with Limestone, you show them that attitude!

It's odd to have a background character as one's favorite character when all of their personality is created by the fandom.

I dont like Friendship School idea, it make friendship look more silly than it should be even its FIM that we talking about. How about a mini adventure episode that our main character learn friendship lesson along the way instead of ..... friendship school teaching sitcom.

Agreed. Here's mine: Diamond Tiara's redemption was completely unnecessary. It's as if the writers just said "Well, the CMC are getting their cutie marks in this episode, so we have no use for this character anymore. Let's get rid of her by pulling the most cliche bullying reason imaginable."

During the time Crusader of the Lost Marks aired, Diamond Tiara's redemption was great, but after two seasons, it's getting worse everytime you think about it, Diamond Tiara become 'background character', no interaction with the CMC, no dialogue AT ALL.

Starlight Gimmer backstory can be a bit messy in Cutie Remark but after two season of developing her character, you might find it wasn't as bad as it used to be. They fixed it, the staffs do pretty good jobs at fixing stuffs, like Gauntlet of Fire fixed Dragon Quest.

Then Why they ignored Diamond Tiara? Where Babs Seed? Will they interact with each other again??

  • "Magical Mystery Cure" is the worst episode of the entire show, even over "Hard to Say Anything."
  • "Somepony to Watch Over Me" is my favorite AJ episode, by a longshot. It's also one of my favorite episodes of the entire series.
  • I sort of hate Scootaloo. I don't really like the rest of the CMC too much either.
  • I find Maud Pie very uninteresting, and extremely one dimensional.
  • Rainbow Dash is my least favorite Mane Six pony. I'm actually becoming unsure if I even like her as a character.
  • "Fame and Misfortune" was not that bad, and I think most of the episode's critics are immature brats who can't handle satire.
  • Applejack was 100% in character in "Honest Apple" and the entire conflict was 100% Rarity's fault.
  • I never once had a problem with Starlight Glimmer's redemption arc.
  • "To Where and Back Again" is one of the better finales in the show's history, and I think most people who complain about it are really complaining about it because the Mane Six weren't the protagonists of the finale.
  • When I watched "Parental Glideance", I cringed the entire time that I didn't skip through.
  • "Fluttershy Leans In" is one of Season 7's best episodes.
  • "Flurry of Emotions" was easily the worst episode in Season 7 until "Hard to Say Anything"

  • "Magical Mystery Cure" is one of my favorite episodes
  • "Rarity Investigates!" is one of the best season 5 episodes
  • "The Ticket Master" is my least favorite episode, mainly because I just don't find it all that interesting
  • I don't think the first Equestria Girls is that terrible of movie
  • "Legend of Everfree" is decent
  • I thought "The Cutie Re-Mark" was a good season finale
  • I really enjoyed "Fame and Misfortune", and I consider it to be one of my favorite episodes period.
  • "The Fault In Our Cutie Marks", "Family Appreciation Day", "Games Ponies Play", "Putting Your Hoof Down", "Filli Vanilli", "Forever Filly", and "Discordant Harmony" are really overlooked
  • Starlight is one of my favorite characters

WARNING: Unpopular opinions incoming. Prepare your pitchforks and lynch ropes.

Tara Strong as Twilight Sparkle has got to be her weakest voice acting performance throughout her entire career. Besides Twilight’s voice sounds awfully familiar from an episode in Samurai Jack Season 4 Episode 47: Jack and The Flying Prince and Princess. She voice acts a character named Princess Verbina that sounds just like a certain purple unicorn in the show. Tara didn’t even try to give Twilight a unique voice. LAME.

Discord should’ve been put to stone. Why is he still in the show? I never watched Star Wars, Star Trek nor any franchise that begins with Star.

*Sarcasm* So, I could care less if Discord is being voice acted by John DeLancie nor could I care less about his popularity in the show. *Sarcasm*

Pinkie Pie has zero understanding when it comes to personal space.

*Sarcasm* Plus, saying her name out in public will make everyone question if you’re retarded or mentally insane. *Sarcasm*

Fluttershy is an uninteresting character and quite possibly a psycho pony. She’s a terrible role model for Shy people in general.

Rainbow Dash is my least favorite pony in the show. Didn’t like her in her first appearance, her first episode, and never liked any episode centered around her.

Applejack and Rarity are the only competent characters that are even remotely interesting in the show. They both got a mysterious family background to keep the audience engaged and they both have family issues to deal with.

Please note: Only watched Seasons 1-3 and never the later seasons.

- Discord's reformation could've been handled better. It was a little too abrupt. Should've taken more than just one episode. Though one could argue that he wasn't truly reformed until his sincere repentance following his betrayal in the Season 4 finale. I think that moment was handled better than the entirety of Keep Calm and Flutter On.

- Applejack has been boring since Season 6. Not even The Perfect Pear has really redeemed her for me. Apple Bloom and Big Mac have both been more fun to watch.

- The Equestria Girls shorts deserve more attention. I'm glad that the human world is finally getting fleshed out.

- Pinkie Pie is no longer as interesting as she used to be. She used to have more meaningful appearances that weren't just comic relief. Now she just tends to be annoying, apart from the episodes that showcase the dynamic between her and Maud.

- Zephyr Breeze is a great character and admittedly a funny stereotype of modern people who can't seem to let go of the home they grew up in and--no pun intended--spread their wings. But at the same time, his development in Flutter Brutter is heartwarming. While him and Fluttershy don't initially get along too well, they are a cool sibling duo that ends up bringing out the best in both of them. I really want some more Zephyr in the next season, because he has a lot of potential to be even more meaningful in future appearances as we see him grow from his lazy and unconfident former self. I love seeing characters grow!

- Similar to my last point regarding Zephyr Breeze, I think Fluttershy Leans In is a great episode. Watch Dragonshy and then watch Fluttershy Leans In. It's like two different characters. But Fluttershy's progression has felt natural (apart from a few out-of-place moments like Scare Master) and the animal sanctuary is her biggest triumph so far. I can't help but be proud of her, as if she's a student going from high school dropout to college graduate.

- I really don't like Rarity. I think her episodes are dry and boring and they have some the stupidest conflicts/plots.

- The only interesting thing about Applejack is her accent, everything else about her is extremely forgettable.

- I hate Flurry Heart with a passion. That thing needs to cease to exist right now.

- I think that Starlight's episodes are some of the best in the series, especially when Trixie is involved.

- Princess Cadence is a blah character, her personality is just blah, the way she was so abruptly introduced into the show was just blah, her reasons for being a princess is just blah, overall Cadence is just a lot of blah.
