Do you believe that Celestia's immortality will meet an untimely end?

I read an interesting, and yet sad comic on Deviant Art, which gave me the idea to make this topic. Not only was the comic surrounded by Celestia's time of passing, but with her being the eldest alicorn of the group, it makes me wonder.

I know you are thinking "Shota, are you stoopid? If you're immortal you can never die!"
Just think about it for a moment. Would you say it could be possible that those with immortality could meet an end, too?

She can be hurt, we saw f.e. Chrysalis do it, so that´s a fact.

An idea: she had her reign time, now there is Twilight as an Alicorn, and Celestia found her follower in her. By the time Twilight has learned enough (student and such), Celestias time will have come (to leave, to "die" idk)...

I think maybe there's some sort of magic that will pass Celestia on. I think that maybe in the series finale,  Celestia will go on to her heaven, or whatever, and leave Twilight to rule over Equestria.

Lauren Faust once stated that she intended Twilight to be Celestia's successor, whatever that implies. Whether or not Celestia is going to die, intends to retire, or intends to become mortal or whatever is anyone's guess.

I think that Celestia is just immortal as long as she is connected to the sun. She gains power and life, and in exchange she helps to maintain the cycle of day and night. I take the words from "Hearth's Warming Eve" literal. The unicorns raised and lowered sun and moon. Not Celestia and Luna. Then they came and took over the task in a new way to help the tribes to build up Equestria. But Celestia is mortal either way. Even if she would live until the universe collapses, she would die then. Or earlier. In case she really needs food and stuff to survive.

No, I don't think Celestia will reach an untimely end. However, I also don't think she's immortal. Extremely long-lived, yes, but not immortal.

Well, even if she was immortal, I'm pretty sure that over time she would ate a little and stop at a certain age. For example, her and Luna used to have a pink mane and a shorter, non-flowing one. If they were immortal and born alicorns, normally they'd just stay as foals. If they weren't born as foals and another alicorn MADE them princesses, where is this particular alicorn? So they must've been aging a little and stopped at a certain age. Since Twilight is an alicorn the series isn't gonna end, I'm pretty sure she'll stay at the same age. So, sometimes alicorns can age, but never die.

There will come a time when Celestia's immortality does come to an end, so it will definitely happen sooner or later. Even though, the show usually does not make a turn to the dark side.

This is why we need a Celestia and Luna backstory episode there are so many questions I have about them. Did they have parents; if not where did they come from? Obviously she won't die in the show but I don't think she's Immortal she just outlives a lot of ponies. But to answer your question no, I don't think she will meet an untimely end.

Before you answer the question of whether or not you think her immortality will ultimately meet an end, you have to ask this question.  WHY is she immortal?  What has made her live so long?  And is it possible that at some point, she and Luna lost the thing that made them immortal to begin with?

As far as we know, Celestia controls the sun, and back then, the unicorns used to bring night and day. (Looking at the Hearths Warming Eve play.) So I think that Celestia isn't immortal , but she probably has magical properties so she can rise and lower the sun every day, which could potentially slow down age, or stop it all together. Twilight is obviously Celestia's student, so I believe that when she feels that Twilight is ready, she will be the one to raise and lower the sun every day, alongside Luna. (Since she is younger than Celestia.)

There are different types if immortality. The simplest is not aging. Then there's immunity from disease, then invulnerability or near invulnerability. After that comes actual godhood, where you absolutely can never die.

 

Lately I've been wondering if alicorns really are immortal. Cadence seems to be aging normaly. Luna seems less mature than Celestia. If their ages were 10,000 and 9,993 you wouldn't think there would be a difference.

 

Maybe after the Nightmare Moon incident Luna was trapped in the moon not aging. And maybe Celestia found a way to magically extend her life so she could see her again.

Immortality doesn't equate to invincibility, and she's certainly not the most powerful in any one aspect. Twilight's been described as the best user of magic and Rainbow Dash is most certainly the best flier. My personal headcanon even says Starswirl was far more powerful in magic than anyone (including Discord). In other words, Celestia can certainly be killed, altho given the nature of this show, I doubt anything like that would ever be shown. I do believe she's immortal, but what makes me curious is how she did as it doesn't appear to have anything to do with an Alicorn. My guess is there's some really powerful magic that enabled Celestia and Luna to live forever, but to quote Rumpelstintskin from "Once Upon a Time," Magic always comes with a price.

Let me tell you something.

I wrote a story (well, I'm still writing it) about a whole different world where one of the species of characters are immortal.  (they don't get children so don't worry)  And you know what happens by the end of the series?

They all die.

Because come now, how could you possibly live forever.  Forever is a very long time.  And in this period of time, something is going to happen.  An accident, another powerful being going against you...something is going to happen eventually.  You just can't live forever.

 

But now lets move into MLP standards xD

Celestia will most probably die.  But I'm certain that it would be her own choice to pass on.  And they may not show in the actual show or ever mention it.  Which is too bad.  (We need G5 to be for teenagers, really xD)

My headcanon is that while Celestia cannot die of natural causes, she can be killed. Obviously, this will never happen in the show, however.

For the sake of justifying killing her off in a past fanfic I wrote, I would believe that while she doesn't grow older, she can still die. Another headcanon I have heard is that she is immortal for as long as she stays a princess and at the end of her reign as she would die. There are lots of different possibilities, but unless she actually dies in the show I doubt we will know for sure.

If any character were to actually die on the show, Celestia would make the most sense to me.

If done right, it could be for MLP what Optimus Primes death was for Transformers. It would need to be handled with care. It should feel like a very natural but impactful event that triggers a change in direction for the show. (Celestia made Twi what she is today and the other Mane 6 idolize her). It actually would make sense with Twilicorn now. Classic storytelling device. Master teaches student, student finishes training, master dies, student avenges master using knowledge taught by master.

 

It can't be too dark but the event should hit hard emotionally, without leaving the kids scarred for life. It would be pretty ballsy for sure but this show is pretty ambitious for a little girls show they could make it work.

We don't know if she's really immortal, or just ridiculously long-lived.  Chrysalis was able to hurt her and knock her unconscious, so she should at least in theory be able to be killed.  My personal headcanon is that she'll basically retire and give her power up to Twilight.
