Is everypony naked?

Well, yes and no I guess. As shown by some episodes, the ponies have some form of fur. For example, a tiger has fur, but if you shave it, in my book the tiger would be naked. I think the same is true for ponies.

 

Maybe in Equestria ponies only wear clothes for special events.

I think the show producers and everyone apart of the show think of the ponies as animals rather than people, maybe this is why there equestria girls wear clothes and the ponies don't, because they're more just put down as animals. And for special occasions dogs sometimes where outfits and that is what hasbro e.t.c think. (Obviously we see them as humans who we can interact with but whatever! )

I don't think their fur or hair would cover everything, but like with cartoon animals in various cartoons they are not going to show their bits since it's not that sort of show.

Being nude is just a big taboo in our society and clearly it's not shared by equestrians. I guess when you are covered from head to toe hoof in fur you don't really worry to much about covering up unless it's a special occasion.

Ponies being nude is very different from how we interpret it. In our society, it's pretty much downright disgraceful and rude when someone goes around nude in public, but it ponies (and horses), it's natural to walk around nude. It really isn't much of a problem since not everyone in the show is always nude. I don't really think they put attire on that much unless it's a special occasion like the Grand Galloping Gala. So yeah..I don't think that ponies being nude is a problem at all as others have stated already.

The dresses are more like accessories, in the same way that everyone doesn't always wear earrings or sunglasses, or ties. They're all naked yes, but naked in the show is the same as being informally dressed.

Clothes are a weird thing.  We wear them for several reasons: modesty, warmth, and protection.  However, the ponies already have fur to keep them warm and protect them from the elements.  This just leaves modesty, which they probably should have a sense of.  Like humans, horses don't have a cloaca, meaning their junk hanging out right in the open.  Why wouldn't they wear pants?

They're naked and it's never an issue because they're stylistically neutered for the sake of its target demographic anyway. I'm not sure I see the point in discussing it beyond the obvious; artistic licence for formalities.

Well, here's a elaborate answer that I'm pretty sure that no one said yet.

 

What is the show based off of? Ponies. Do ponies in real life wear clothes? No, sir. So should the ponies in the show wear clothes? No, I don't think they should wear clothes if they're based off of ponies in real life. It's not normal for ponies to wear clothes UNLESS it's for a special event.

It's fact that everyone is naked, but it's socially accepted. We all know when it wasn't accepted (SCS6000, The Best Night Ever). It's a strange phenomenon.

Not wearing clothes would be normal for them at least, just like how we normally see animals at the zoo or in the wild. We don't see them wear clothes and that's not a bad thing, I'm thinking that clothes are more of a formal thing in the MLP Universe or for other special events.

There are couple of strange things about clothing, though.

1. Winter clothes. In the begining of "Winter Wrap Up" we learn they have winter clothes (scarf, sadle, boots).

But then nopony wears them! Neighet Twilight nor enypony else.

2. What's about horseshoes? They are mentioned all the time, but nopony seems to wear them eigher.

I personally think they are naked BUT they don't see it as a taboo. Think about it, Fancypants and Rarity's parents wear clothes but don't mind other ponies being naked as a strong example they don't mind their children being nude. To me clothing in the MLP universe is a form of social status as seen in Canterlot were most of the ponies are clothed but don't mind nudity, it just shows them in a bit superior manner. Events such as the Grand Galloping Galla or a wedding/coronation were all the characters were dressed for the big thing. Or simply choice as seen in Winter Wrap Up where Twilight had the choice to put winter clothes but decided not to, or when the Changelings attacked and the girls didn't mind taking them off (Rarity didnt want them to be dirty and to be fair she also took off her dress.).

I really don't think this is very funny but as Applejack mentioned they won't normally wear clothes. Oh, come on. A lot of shows like MLP:FIM are like this. They are really not specifically nude as their ponies. Anyway, in my opinion they probably suit with no clothes then with clothes.

They're not really naked per sae. I mean when they have fur that covers thier entire body; they technically aren't naked. Like any animal really.

 

The reason we wear clothes is because we're practically hairless compared to other animals. Which is why we'd have different socially accepted norms.

It's like animals in the real world. They're "naked" in the sense they don't have clothes, but it's not like they care; it's within their nature to not care. Can you imagine lions wondering what clothes they'd wear?

In Suited For Success when Applejack said "I was just gonna wear my old work duds." I was thinking it would be funny if she'd said "I was just gonna go naked."   Then later they actually did make a joke about it.

 

In Equestria Girls I could see Twilight saying "These clothes are driving me crazy!" And starting to take them off in the school. Wouldn't have been exactly G rated.

There not they have furr like everpony else is saying. We have natural pouches on are flanks three to be exact. These flaps are like kangaroo pouches except they can retract to expose the genetels. the other two flaps are just the same as a kangaroo pouch allowing us to store items with ease. We land hard on ar flanks all the time male or female the flapes provide extra protection from infection and being hit a natural codpeace if you think about it. (Glad to tell you people anout us also earth ponies bones are rock hard pegesie have leatherd skin with very light bones PS their wings are fragile and much larger then shown in mlp and Unicorns have an exra gap in the skull that controls magnetics at a microscopic level. are hooves have suction flaps we grab harder then fingures and they are very capible of complex paterns like playing a harp or piano. Between fur, body layout, tails, sheaths, and quadrupedal stance, there's a lot blocking a direct view of a pony's unmentionables. Between fur and basically being able to control how bad winter is (thank you pegasi weather control), the elements don't get too bad.

 

Ponies have minimal reason to consider going unclothed a significant issue.
