Pegasi Abuse: Are there too many pegasus OCs?

I don't care if you want me to be honest (yeah, I have a pegasus OC, sue me). I'm just glad that alicorn OC's aren't the most popular choice like I once thought. Not that I have anything against them.

It all depends on the persons tastes. People who like magic would want to be a Unicorn, people who like flying would want to be a pegasus, maybe some just prefer a simple life and just go with Earth Ponies. I guess many people want to fly, I don't see why we should force people to change their OCs just because a lot of them want to be a pegasus. It also seems shallow to pull the "OMG RD/FS" card as the reason for the fandom the prefer Pegasus Ponies(especially since Unicorns aren't far behind). Then again I don't like OCs in general so what do I know.

I dunno, I might be biased because my 3 fave ponies are Pegasi (as is my OC)....but I don't really see much of a problem. People will choose what they want.

Only thing with Alicorns is while they can fly, they can't fly as good or as fast as a pegesus. She even has guards cart her everywhere as did Luna on Nightmare Night.

 

Celestia never does long term flight, she just uses them to hover and give her spells more range. She does this when she raises the sun, she does it when she fires that solar beam at chrysallis and she uses the range to remove the 'want it, need it' spell from all of ponyville.

 

Anytime she does 'fly' she just gets to the required height and just teleports.

 

She has however mastered hard landing, like when she basically falls from the sky in 'feeling pinky keen'

I see them everywhere. Either they're the "cool" and "awesome" type, who's very blunt and fast, (and works at the weather factory). Or they're the shy type who barely talks to anyone and doesn't like socializing.

I guess being a plain old land pony is too boring?  They even gave Pinkie Pie powers to liven her up.  Is it possible for other earth ponies to have special abilities or is Pinkie one of a kind due to the elements of harmony?

I chose to make my OC an earth pony because I honestly felt wings and horns would be distracting or take away from the character's personality. My OC is already a weird creepy pony in a taco suit, wings and horns would just be ridiculousness overkill for her. I think it really does depend on the character your trying to create. A lot of people aren't too creative when it comes to their ponies talents, so they kinda just steal ideas from the show. Hence all the "racer" (RD) and "struggling flier" (fluttershy) stories." They use the pegasi struggle stories for instant conflict. Of course, if we didn't all just mass plagiarize, there might be more unique pony stories out there and less pegasi focused stories. People might look at their OC's and realize that slapping a pair of wings on em doesn't make them better, or in some cases may even detracts from the character.

Earth Ponies do have magic. it just isn't as noticeable or as flashy. An example being the Earth ponies are able to grow trees with magical properties like Zap Apples, also on that is how AJ & Big Mac buck the trees hard enough to make the apples fall and yet not damage the tree. By all rights the tree should at least get marked.

 

I've read my fics that make earth pony magic a passive ability that is always in effect, Pinkie Sense is the most known example and probably the only one we can 'see'.

 

Others are rather silly ones such as chronic bad luck  or turning stallions instantly gay (Braeburn in this case being totally straight and obvious to what he is doing to the other stallions)

 

Also, while not a Pony, Zecora has been shown to do magic without a horn to channel it as shown when she refilled her cup with water with just a hoof, she too also has knowledge of magic plants like Poisen Joke and Truth seed plant.

Yes I admit I'm a pegasi fanatic, but I have kind of an excuse. I'm a student pilot, so I think I'm justified in having a pegasus ponysona.

 

If I wasn't, though, I think I'd actually have an earth pony as my ponysona.

Flying is a, popular fantasy many people share. Since PegasI manage to accomplish that dream; many people want to be pegasi. To be fair I have an OC of all three races but I tend to my earth pony OC more.

 

Apparently Earth Ponies are very underrated due to them not having any distinguishable aspects about them. I see the charm to pegasi but I agree that there's a huge influx of them.

Anything with a prophecy in it tends to be an INSTANT turn-off for me; other than that, I'm really one of the most liberal (non-politically) fanfic-critics you'll ever meet. So, while I do see more pegasus OCs than other types (even alicorns), as long as they're decently written (and don't have DUMB-S*** prophecies attached to them), I can't exactly complain.

If you read the actual thing, you'll see it's about Pegasi being overused. Not Earth ponies being underused.

 

And I don't get how you can compare a pony to a human.
