Metemponychosis 1,261 December 30, 2013 Share December 30, 2013 No, not really. She's liked animals and has had a great connection with them and could very easily understand them but, in this one she's talking about talking to them in their "language". She talks to the beavers in Keep Calm and Flutter On. https://www.fimfiction.net/user/32864/Metemponychosis For dumb, self-important fics about mythology, ponies and fascist griffons that can't figure friendship out. And I'm just getting started.

lomk 20,663 December 30, 2013 Share December 30, 2013 (edited) Loved it so much! The song was very good. The plot of this one explored something I never saw coming. Fluttershy is still awesome. My day is made. I have to know what will Fluttershy not be? She's already a(n): Animal whisperer Dragon conqueror Stare master Scary angry lunatic Tree Psycho assertive badass Clutch hurricane maker Chaos god tamer Hulk Why not go ahead and add badass vampire batpony to the list? I freaking love Fluttershy! Edited December 30, 2013 by ~Sadistic Luna~ 3 I refuse to let go until you're impressed. I refuse to let go until I'm depressed. Music Chart Fan 819 December 30, 2013 Share December 30, 2013 Ultimately this episode was frustrating to watch for me, and seems like it will only get more so with repeated viewings, mostly because my feelings when watching this episode are dominated by the setting up and handling of the episode's conflict and moral. This episode seemed to me a bit like "Feeling Pinkie Keen" or "The Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000" in that the moral of the episode is brought about with a conflict that is much more complex than depicted, and where one side (which I usually sympathize with, yet still acts stupid and fails to make its case) is made to look foolish and the other side is "vindicated" by the power of heavy-handed, contrived, and oversimplified consequences to their actions. I made a post in this topic with my thoughts about the "debate" between Applejack and Fluttershy. In short, although I think Applejack's "side" could have made much better arguments and countered Fluttershy's points more effectively, I have much less sympathy for Fluttershy's position, and I often found her arguments lacking in merit. Of course, in the episode, yet again, one of Twilight's spells has unintended and unforeseen bad consequences. How many times does this same thing have to happen, and why do Twilight's spells taken from books so often do more harm than good? One thing I don't understand is how Twilight's spell backfired, and why it changed Fluttershy in the way that it did. First, it doesn't help that Twilight's explanation of what happened and the accompanying neon "VR-style" illustrations aren't very helpful and don't actually explain much of anything. But in that explanation, Twilight says her spell "backfired" and transferred the desire to be a fruit bat to Fluttershy. What I don't understand, and what isn't explained, is that Fluttershy doesn't just have a desire to be a fruit bat, her anatomy is apparently changed (in addition to her actions, such as not intelligently responding to the rest of the Mane Six talking to her). How and why would a spell intended to alter the minds of fruit bats do this? I also noticed in the part of the episode that Pinkie can apparently control her mane, at least enough to "grab" and manipulate a handheld flashlight. And speaking of that, I wouldn't really expect a flashlight of that size to be strong enough to make a signal in the sky that can be seen from that significant of a distance. Do those flashlights run on batteries like ours? If so, I guess that's another indication that the level of technology is Equestria might be higher than was depicted before. Fluttershy was using the Stare (a magical or at the least mystical ability) on the bats while Twilight cast the spell to remove the thirst for apple juice from the bats. Some of that thirst was unintentionally conducted via the Stare into Fluttershy. Why does it affect physical changes? Why shouldn't it? Spike can gain a few tons in weight simply by hoarding junk, and then lose it again instantaneously. Twilight can transform from a normal unicorn into an alicorn by adding a few lines to a poem. A powerful being can change a pony's personality by simply touching them on the head. Why is a transforming Fluttershy so hard to grasp in a world almost literally made of magic? O heck it is nick picking but... the writing a few words in a book was simply the final act that proved she mastered the magic of friendship without the rest of the entire show behind her it would not have worked. and if you argue that the past was just a bunch of unrelated episodes I would reference the hall of memory! that pretty much made all of the unrelated episodes into one huge test! Argumedies 1,748 December 30, 2013 Share December 30, 2013 (edited) Adorabat is adorable Like all of season 4 I have so many mixed emotions. At least they didn't make Twilight the bat... that would be re-donk-ulose... Again this episode.... I wanna beat it with a fugly stick but I'm too busy being lost in its adorableness. it was like watching an episode, of family guy where they start on one point and end up on something completely different and that bugs the living... oh my CUTE FLUTTERBATS!!!! (Dawwwww!!!) And then there's Twilight...(sighs) so much for being the smart pony... the writers have done a great job.. (at sucking the brains right out of her) At least they haven't destroyed Rarity's Fabulousness (yet...*shudders*) Edited December 30, 2013 by Argumedies
Casbyness 48 December 30, 2013 Share December 30, 2013 Loved the ending with the hint of something more to come (although I don't expect anything will, it's just good to leave that hanging for fans to speculate about). Two episodes in a row playing on Fluttershy's character and messing with it, with good Pinkie action - she usually gets sidelined quite a bit since her nature can break the tension/suspense in most plots, but this time she was done right. Rarity is now solidly back as her regular self and not a liability to the show (her bizarre voice acting in episode 1 is now thankfully a distant memory). The whole Princess Twilight thing isn't messing up the show at all and the castle renovation arc is providing some good focus to keep me interested. Only thing missing is a good threat. I'm hoping against hope for a Celestia face-heel turn, since it would work so well with her Trollestia parodies. A Crystal Empire episode wouldn't hurt, to patch some of the massive logical/narrative holes in the previous episodes involving it.

Galen 1,354 December 30, 2013 Share December 30, 2013 Awesome songs, awesome setting, and bat ponies now official. This episode was amazing in just about every way. Also, I'm not gonna lie but Fluttershy really has grown on me since the last season and she's definitely stepped up her game this season too. She really made this episode for me. The message of this episode was great too. People often rely on forceful measures to get what they want irl, and what's shown in this episode is extremely applicable. The value of compromise and working with nature can't be emphasized enough. Great job, Fluttershy! Also, DAT ENDING! Does that mean Fluttershy is retained some vampire attributes? This season is really going out of its way to create a sense of plot continuity. Can't wait to see how it turns out

TwilightDreamer 69 December 30, 2013 Share December 30, 2013 I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed this, we need Applejack episodes with her friends more or traveling someplace! We so need a single or more episodes for Applejack that doesn't involve her family and the apple harvest. We need episodes of her in different places like Manehatten, Los Pegasus, the Crystal Empire, Fillydelphia, etc. Seriously, is it too hard of a request for the writers to answer?

I feel there are those fans here who are literally expecting too much out of a show about talking, magical ponies intended for children under the age of ten. While it is nice that the creators recognize the fandom; trying to find logic in this show is ike asking why animals talk and fly planes in Tale Spin or how can Scrooge McDuck dive through 2 tons worth of gold coins without being crushed to death.
