music Music/sounds, that you find unsettling or creepy

I find most nursery rhythms to be quite disturbing, given the right sound behind them and rumored meaning behind some of them. That and alot of music that is meant to be calming and relaxing, just feel odd when I listen to them.

So, what music/sounds do you find creepy?

When everything is quiet and dark and you hear a soft and quiet whisper. That just gives me the heeby geebies.

Oh and I can't forget Giygas' theme from Earthbound. That has to be the most unsettling and creepy music ever, especially for a SNES game.

Ice Cream van music: the jingles are really creepy like something out of a horror film

Having said that the jingle at 0:30 in the video linked makes me laugh

The Nursery Rhyme “boys and girls come out to play the sun is shining bright as day”. There’s something so creepy and depressing about that song, and it’s not the lyrics.

Are you afraid of the dark? Theme tune

Ancient wind instruments (including bagpipes) have a very unsettling sound to me. The bassoon (my instrument) very much can sound quite creepy, as well.

Then there's this... Atonal music I heard in Music Theory IV... Quite creepy, but fitting to its subject:

The Lavender Town theme from Pokemon. It's just so unsettling..... and the high pitched notes don't help. After reading a bunch of creepypasta about it, it just freaks me out.

Isolated footsteps. It just really unnerves me. You know, like you're walking down an empty hall and the only sound you hear is you walking? It puts me on edge.

The same goes for rustling bushes for the similar reasons. Particularly at night at work when there's no one around.

Voodoo by godsmack is a particularily chaotic song. It's a great song but the hypnosis it can induce can be dangerous. Otherwise There are a few songs I avoid;

Last kiss by pearl jam ais one particularily haunting song

There's an oldy I only know as dizzy. My step dad had that song playing all the time when I was younger and the song just drives me insane.

I've gotten better at handling my heart will go on (titanic theme) and it's haunting melodies

Lavender Town theme song from pokemon creeps me the fuck out, and the creepy pastas didn't help

I can only get about 20 seconds into this bad boy before I have to rip my headphones off

  • Shrill screech-like sounds; anything similar to a scream or a cry for help but distorted.
  • Human noises isolated or put in an unnatural way.
  • Usually warm, comforting sounds just slightly ... "off."

These are common-types of noises used in horror. Anything that's unsettling is somehow not... quite... natural. It's the uncanny valley world of sound.

I think the Silent Hill series nails creepy sounds. It has everything from telephones ringing, creepy carousel music, and distorted crying baby sfx to the jarring screech of metal scraping, whispering voices, etc.

Strangely, I find the Lavender theme(and it's covers) to be calming. It's sort of like an old grandfather clock, ticking away.

The X-Files theme always spooked me as a kid, but it's alright now.

I can't really call to mind any that have made me unsettled. Not that there are any, I just enjoy the style that many would put into a creepy genre.

Pretty simple, but creepy to me nonetheless.

Sig made by Kyoshi.

Cool things people have said about me:

Never heard of him but I guess just you mentioning him is a good reason not to go anywhere near that name.

(In reference to an author I suggested.)

Another one of mine is windchimes, just something about them make me uneasy, always giving me a feeling like something bad is coming. Odd I know

Isolated footsteps. It just really unnerves me.
Especially in hospitals.

Sorry about that, I love my horror stuff very much.
I love horror a little too much myself.

Yes! Itoi, the designer of Earthbound, accidentally walked into a movie when he was a kid and thought someone was getting raped.

It's the reason behind Giygas' weird dialogue and fetus look when he gets close to being defeated.

That's a really fast summary of the story, correct me if I'm wrong.

Music from games such as Cry of Fear and/or the original F.E.A.R game. It's really nerve-racking when you're sitting inside, at night, your lights off, with only your headset on and no one else but you at home.

Music would be Ave Satani, or anything from Sinister or Silent Hill.

Sounds? The sound of space is the most unnerving thing I've ever heard. It sounds like a giant creature is breathing slowly.

And the screams from Baron Blood (Usually seen as "Sounds of Hell" on youtube)
