I NEVER thought Tirek would appear on FiM, thanks to litigation and lack of interest. Lo & behold, he actually did, and was just as much badass now as he was then. Then even bought up Scorpan while they were at it!

This makes me VERY curious, and I'm certain I'm not alone: does this mean we may hear from more Generation 1 characters later on???

More Gen 1 Villains (the Smooze, Grogar, Catrina, etc.)?
The return of Seaponies and/or Flutterponies?
The Moochik, as non-human, helping out (though Zecora, the Princesses and even Starswirl already do the same thing)?
I can already imagine Fluttershy just LOVING some Bushwoolies!
Not to mention other Gen 1 whatzits.
Maybe even an eventual (very eventual) appearance by the Williams siblings or even--dare Isay it--one of the Gen 1 versions of the Other 5?!

I realize it may very well not happen, but Tirek's (and Scorpan's) appearance has opened the door, at least in mind, and I just can't help but wonder...

Smooze and Grogar coming back would have me jumping for joy, no joke.

 

As for other characters, I definitely wouldn't mind them bringing back some of the G1 ponies. I'm not sure how I feel about Seaponies, but if they redesignt them to look a little less terrifying strange, I'd be down for it.

Seeing how much Tirek's brother was mentioned during the season 4 finale, there's no doubt other G1 characters will show up (Scorpan...).

With the precedent set by Tirek in the season finale it makes this more likely a possible return of Grogar and the Smooze would be especially awesome. The return of sea and flutter ponies is I think an even stronger possibility and I am curious as to what abilities they might give them in G4.

Not very bad, I'm afraid. None of the Gen 1 villains had much of an impact. They showed up, caused trouble, and were defeated never to seen or even mentioned again (with the exception of Mountain of Gloom Witches).

 

Ya see, Generation 1 wasn't much on world building/expanding...

(It doesn't even have a Mane cast like the other Generations)

It's true that they didn't have a huge impact, but some of them were deadly in concept, like the Smooze. I can't even imagine how that would play out on Friendship is Magic, it would likely be pretty terrifying.

 

While bringing back villains is cool, I still would like to see some more ponies or otherwise brought back from G1 or even the other generations as well, if they can pull it off. I mean, technically a lot of the characters are taken or inspired by previous seasons, like Spike who literally is from the same special that Tirek is, making him like an OG character. I'm still pulling for Scorpan to come back since they mentioned him in the Season Four Finale. I wanna see him and Spike become best buds, darn it!

The Smooze destroyed several kingdoms, making it necessary for the ponies, and at least one other race of creatures to relocate. Due to the nature of the G1 cartoon though, it had little true impact.

 

Grogar was presented as another Tirek-level threat. As was a gigantic octopus-like creature names Squirk. In G1, all three were highly reliant on artifact-magic to be a threat, but since Tirek in G4 didn't need his Rainbow of Darkness, it's unlike Grogar would need the Bell of Tambelon or Squirk the Flashstone.

 

Other possibilities would be Catrina and Somambula, as lower-level threats. The three witches Hydia, Reeka and Draggle are kinda generic and forgettable other than they created the Smooze. Oh, and their giant spider-servant Ohg. That's got possibilities.

Seaponies! SHOO BE DOO! That would make my nostalgic little heart so happy. I always loved the flutterponies too (in fact my favorite pony toy as a kid was a flutterpony: High Flyer) But for some reason I get the feeling the breezies are suppose to be updated versions of the flutterponies. I could be wrong...I hope I am. Seeing more G1 characters make an appearance in FiM would be awesome, especially for us old people. If nothing else I want to see more of Scorpan in season five!

As much as I liked having Tirek back.... (with the exception of maybe Grogar) I really don't want to see any rehashed characters coming back. Frankly I'd rather they fill in the blanks of the ones they got already.

I may be in the minority here, but I would like to see G1 and G4 remain as far from each other as possible. We have enough races of sentient creatures in Equestria that haven't been adequately explored (griffons, dragons, zebras and now Breezies) that we really don't need to add another rehashed from the original series.

 

Tirek was done very well in the finale, I'll give them that, but my fear is that one day they'll overdo it and the show jumps the shark.

 

Oh, and nothing that even looks remotely human, ever!

I've thought of that but its a gray zone when it comes to them in being in EQ and all

and not the main show!  I would love some sea ponies and flutterponies to come back

and add in more to the show!  Also getting back some G1 ponies would just be the

icing on the cake for a lot of fans of the old school and new school!

What we saw of their Equestrian forms do resemble the G4 Merponies that have been shown briefly in the comics, and in one picturebook (Under the Sparkling Sea). Given how a lot of people confuse Sirens and Mermaids in mythology, that makes sense. Personally, I would say the Sirens were corrupted seaponies, the way Sombra was a corrupted unicorn. Both being twisted versions of the original.

I think the next one we'll be getting is Scorpan, If Tirek ever returns the absolute best way for that episode to go is for him to come face to face with his brother.

 

As for others possibly. I haven't seen previous generations but I've always been in to the idea of reusing some old characters, maybe they should give this a shot.

Well, AFAIK, it is more a legal problem than anything else.  Hasbro just doesn't have the copyright.  No idea how much time & money it would take to get the copyright.

 

As to "How Deadly?".  The Smooze got beat by the Flutterponies.  I don't see any Flutterponies, so good luck beating it.  I saw a fanfic, the Flutterponies were corrupted into Changelings.  Again, good luck w getting them to help.

 

The original Sea Pony toys were LAME.  If they do release a new version, I hope they are better.

Flutterponies i could see something along the lines of Twilights wings spell could fit in there. As for sea ponies I never got them if i'm honest

Wait, is that confirmed? I'd love to see the Smooze return, if only for the glory of Fluttershy's cult in FiW And they've already got the perfect voice actor for it. Just listen to how similar Big Mac's singing is:

And flutterponies should still be the only way to fight him. Would make a great friendship challenge, with them being reclusive and all. Hopefully the G4 writers can do better than just guilting them into it like G1.
