I'm back.. From nowhere! How's Season 4?

Okay.  I'm back from last year post-season 3.  As you all I'm sure are aware, many of us were upset at the time because (for some of us) Hasbro nearly ruined the show.  Now I have no knowledge whatsoever about Season 4, how decent it is or weather or not it lives up to season 2.  What I want you guys to do is (without spoilers) tell me weather or not this season is worth watching.  I'm still recovering from when Hasbro psychologically raped me out of no where last year, and some good news would be appreciated.

I have to know (for personal-social reasons) weather tomorrow I will still be a Brony, but I cannot watch the entirety of S4 all in one night..  So please, help me out.  I want you to look at things from my perspective, (Someone who despised EQG, Twilicorn and the removal of Fighting is magic) and tell me weather or not you think that I should stay or go basically.  I don't want sugar-coating, but I also don't want extreme pessimism.  I just want the truth.

I understand that weather or not someone will enjoy a season is (for the most part) subjective, but I'm running out of time and out of options.  I was busy with school for too long, and it caused me to become an outdated Brony.  Am I welcome here, and should I watch the show?

I have remained completely dormant with respect to the show since post-season 3.

Wish I could bump this thread :c

Tis alright lad. It's understandable. Some of us have been busy to watch season 4.

In my opinion some of the episodes were good. Others were in what? Mostly on pinkie pie 4th wall ability.

A lot of episodes focus less on twilight. About 4-5. The rest focus on the other mane 6 and about 2 about cmc. Some of the songs are pretty good.

Can't tell you more lad. Don't want to ruin it. Also allow others to express their opinions till you watch it.

kk.  Thanks for the reply, but I would prefer if you were a little more specific.  (Sorry.  It's like waking up from a coma)  I am allowing others to express their opinions ;p

On which topic to be more specific lad?

Did Hasbro ruin anything else or do anything world-shattering?  How did Twilight being violated work out?

Hmm. Honestly don't know about that. Mmmm, don't know about that part either lad. Sorry

Wait there is one. But it was from a chat. From a post. Megan McCarthy has sank the ss sparity. Meaning that nothing will advance further between spike and rarity friendship

Season 4 is without a doubt the best season in the series so far. They improved everything. Amazing songs that didn't just sound like little ditties, animations and special effects were infinitely improved, there was actual continuity throughout the season leading up to two major events and much much more.

They've even shown they are willing to expand the scope of the show farther than ever before. They address Twilight being a princess with all the popularity but seemingly none of the duties (in most cases) and the entire season just came together in a cohesive ball of awesome.

Season 4 blew the rest of the series away.

I wouldn't have expected them to in the first place. Interspecies relations are a subject that would create a supreme amount of conjecture, possibly more than the show or fandom could handle. It's best to keep things simple in this case.

I actually seemed to enjoy season 4 the most out of all seasons. But that said, I reckon it is comparable to season 2.

I wasn't particularly keen on Equestria Girls or Alicorn Twilight, but I did end up growing quite fond of Twilight's new form in the end.

I must admit, there has been some pretty lame episodes in the past  but there have also been many good ones and in this new season.

There have been some great songs in there too!

My advice is don't rush it, and just take it slowly. There is no need to rush ahead like a train going off its tracks.

It worked for me. I watched all of the episodes in the span of a week. I came out glowing.

A week is fine I guess, that's almost 3 episodes a day. If I watched it in the span of a day I would likely come out with twitching eyes and a huge grin on my face!

More like six to seven a day, then a day or two of break, then one episode another day...then staying up til three in the morning watching the last eight episodes.

First of all, I've seen no evidence that Princess Twilight was a corporate mandate.  It's a theory and nothing more.  Hasbro is not necessarily responsible for everything you don't like in the show.

As for season 4, it is the best season yet.  Dreams come true, Discord becomes an even more interesting character, we see a plethora of new locations and creatures, each of the main characters gets plenty of focus, there is a brilliant overarching story (except for "Rainbow Falls", that episode was dumb), an intimidating new villain that doesn't get defeated by doing something clearly stupid, and there's actually...a good Spike episode.

And I managed to keep it spoiler free.

I'm still recovering from when Hasbro psychologically raped me out of no where last year, and some good news would be appreciated.

I know how you feel, and what has been done cannot be undone.

But the writers at least do what they could to fix it after the fact, and I think they nearly succeeded at it.

First, there's the "Equestria Girls" spin-off, where they seem to admit that Twilight is as surprised and uncomfortable with all that Alicorn Princess stuff as some of us were, when they show her struggling with her wings and worrying about what will come in her new life. They also seem to use the whole storyline of "Equestria Girls" to explain it and show us that she is actually a Princess of Friendship, since everywhere she comes, she introduces Harmony and Friendship in there. If you didn't watched it yet, I recommend you to give it a shot. Even if you don't like the idea of ponies becoming humans for a while, it's still worth watching for the solution of its plot, because it sheds some light on Twilight's role in MLP:FiM.

Then, this theme is reiterated in the Season 4's opening, and they do it in style! Something tells me that you gonna love this two-parter, where some old villains come back to do some mess once again, and Twilight gets some new important lessons, which shows that she still has a lot of potential for change and learning. The story explains the importance of Twilight becoming a Princess. Seems that it was her destiny all the time, and there seem to be deep reasons for that. Deeper than we could understand from the Season 3's finale. It also shows how does it influence her old friends. This is great, since the writers show us that her best friends are still important for her and for the story, and they will never fade to the background. It answers some questions about the history of Equestria, especially the origins of the Elements of Harmony and their role as an ultimate weapon against all villains. If you were one of those who complained at the deus ex machina usage of the Elements, then you will be surprised how the Season 4 opening turns out.

Season 4 is perhaps the first season in the history of G4 MLP where we have a season-wide story arc interwoven into the usual slice-of-life episodes. There's still the plot started with the opener going on in the background, and culminating in the Season 4 finale. I wonder how fast will you notice what's really going on ;) Pay close attention to the details which might seem unimportant at first.

Ah, and the Season 4 finale... Meghan McCarthy once said that she's most proud of two things: "This Day Aria" and the Season 4 finale. And she was right. This is probably the best finale I've seen so far, which binds together all the stories of all heroes (and some villains) from all four seasons culminating in this one finale. It shows how the interactions between them have influenced each other, and how they've changed & evolved throughout the process. There are lots of references to previous foreshadowing from all previous seasons, and even from previous generations of MLP :)

So yeah, in short, there's definitely something for you to watch and enjoy, and I guess you will enjoy it as much as I do.

Discord becomes an even more interesting character

Ah yes, Discord. I think they handled Discord very well after his release from his prison. How all of the ponies besides Fluttershy still didn't trust him and constantly accused him of being the problem and whatnot. I think in some of season 4's episodes Discord did have some good intentions but he was ultimately out for mischief.

Then the big thing happened in the finale. I can't wait to see how Discord's attitude changes in later seasons.

Random change in subject: I like how in every season so far they've seemed to find a way to naturally perpetuate the journal keeping in some way. Maybe I'm still blinded by how much I loved it but it didn't feel like they were shoehorning lessons into the season as much as some of the past episodes.

If it wasn't obvious, I REALLY REALLY love season 4. Seasons 1-3 were cool and all but season 4 just blew the rest away.

Season 4 was the best season out of the season from the first episode from the last there were harldy any bad ones... SOME of them were blah but tolerable i guess... But ya best opening and closing episodes for sure... I THINK the music was better in last episode of season 3 I felt like the last episode of season 4 the music didn't flow and it was kinda rushed.

Can't really put it any better that SasQ, but I'll try and add my take.

Season 4 had some pretty amazing moments, and a deeper interwoven storyline. There are callbacks to some older episodes as well that you wouldn't think would be important, and some are so subtle you'll almost miss them. There are moments that Alicorn Twilight as a plot device becomes interesting, and the writers actually get a chance to make the most of this.

Characters that didn't get a spotlight in Season 3, like Rarity, are prominent in Season 4. Some of the lessons and morals have gotten deeper. They amped up the Brony/Culture/Meme nods. Some said a little too much, but others felt that the Hub went out of their way to write this season with the Brony community in mind.

There is a dud or two ... but even they had enjoyable moments.

  I just want the truth.

Just watch it.

Seriously, quit making a big deal out of it and just watch it. Most will tell you it was a solid season, some will tell you it was meh. You won't find out for yourself if you don't watch it, so just do it.

Enjoy the episodes you like and grumble over the ones you don't.

As someone who was very much against Twilicorn in Season 3, and disappointed in Season 3 overall, I have to say that Season 4 was an impressive return to form.  Lots of great Rarity development.  A decent semi-recurring season long storyline.  And the best stretch of episodes in the middle of the season since the first five of Season 2.

My main issue with Twilicorn did unfortunately rear its head - they only seemed to remember that Twilight was a princess when it was convenient, though they were more consistent about it later on, and while I didn't think they handled it that well, it was really my only gripe with the season overall.

It wasn't over season 3.  Season 3 was fine.  It was that abomination of the movie, and (to some extent) the twilicorn thing..  And Hasbro taking down fighting is magic didn't help.

I almost threw up when you said that. (not at all because of you) It's because people said last year that they were NOT going to intertwine that horror with FIM..  If they make any direct references, I may just be out the door.  :c

I really do tend to enjoy when more developed plot-lines are introduced in shows.  I also was one who complained about the Deus ex Machina usage of the elements :D

I will admit.  Yesterday after I got off of forums, I derped and watched the first few minutes of the S4 finale (on accident).

It's brilliant.  (so far)   I don't say that when I don't mean it.

then I panicked and realized it was the finale..

That's what happens when you YouTube "episode one" and get "episode twenty-something" in response...

Season 4 is perhaps the first season in the history of G4 MLP where we have a season-wide story arc interwoven into the usual slice-of-life episodes. There's still the plot

I like that idea.  Like I said before, I like developed plot-lines.  I just wish there was a bad-ass elusive main villain...  Like Amon from LOK or Slade from TT...  Wishful thinking..

Just watch it.

But where?..  WHEEEERRRREEEEEE?

It's understandable though. Twilicorn was a huge thing, then you had EQG...The show was looking to go in an extremely bad direction. I can't blame people for bailing.

Anyways, Season 4 was very hit or miss. I can't really go into detail without spoiling a lot, so let's just say Season 4 completely botched a few opportunities, had great songs, had a season-long story arc, and was generally entertaining for most of the way.

Well, good news for you, season 4 retcons that movie out of existence.

??? Where? If anything, it did the opposite.
