Probably because they're aimed for kids, and the kids might not see the official figures so inaccurate as we do, and Hasbro most likely can make them cheaper when they aren't show accurate. That's my guess. Most of them are pretty bad compared to fan made figures, but still there are some official ones that are decent.

Eh, I never accepted that argument. A lot of kids I knew of, including myself when I was younger, actually preferred figures that actually looked like the thing it's supposed to be representing.

Mainly because they're just interested in the cash. I've been just looking for a figure to put on my desk but haven't been able to find a good one. As others have mentioned the Funko brand ones seem to be some of the better ones, but still aren't what I'm looking for. I'm very picky and can't help being annoyed by stuff that doesn't look right. (the reason I also don't care for many of the fan made 3D CGI videos)

A while back (before I even knew of MLP unfortunately) someone made some 3D models of the characters and was 3D printing and selling them. Of course Hasbro found out and decided to kill that off as they like to do. Anyway they were the best looking ones I've seen anywhere.

Here is one of the figures they were making.

I just find it so stupid that Hasbro just kills stuff like this off. The 3D work is done, why not buy the model from the creator and produce them? I'm sure they would turn a profit.

Rainbow Rocks... at least how it could've looked... in a stranger, more interesting dimension

Fear can make people get stupid. Hasbro seems to have trouble going with the times like smart businessmen do.

That model looks really nice. I'd not call the Source engine models too unrealistic though. They look like the designers tried to recreate the round nature of their heads, close to the animation look, which inevitably increased the head volume. The model above looks more like the Hasro toys when viewed directly from the front, but looks more authentic overall. The horn could be a little bigger maybe, but it's really impressibe. Very likeable.

Would be awesome to have that model look in Source.

All you have to do is take a bunch of letters! Add it to the thread! Now just take a little something bold, not italic! A bit of underline, just a pinch! Writing these words is such a cinch! Add a teaspoon of punilla! Add a little more, and you count to four, and you always get your filler... Onehundred! So sweet and tasty! Hundred! Don't be too hasty! Hundred! Hundred, hundred, HUNDRED!

Well It's true that the MLP toys are aimed for girls and kids, but for those of us that are collectors, we don't mind buying and collect them regardless of the reviews. As My Friend told me (which she happened to be a huge pony merc collector), "We like what we like". It also really depends on if we're buying them as a collection and use them as a decor for own room.

Well, I only go for the collectible, show accurate ones like the funko vinyls and 4de's plush. I hate the brushables and the blind bag ones aren't any better. And don't get me started on the spaghetti funrise plushies.

There is a lot of truth to this. I was a huge Transformers fan in the 80's and loved the toys. Even Ironhide ... you want to know how show accurate he was?

In the end, imagination rules over accuracy. It didn't matter to me that he looked like ass. He was Ironhide and only second to Optimus Prime in kickassery. Now that I'm an adult, that old Ironhide looks like I tried to make a Lego figure ... while I was sick with the flu ... and blind.

Hasbro's MLP line is not even that close to bad. Funko and Welovefine make decent Brony targeted merchandise, and 4DE looks like they make decent plushies.

Your post made me "lol."  I'd genuinely forgotten what the Transformers toys used to be like.

Well, most of the toys do suck, but I really love my brushables.

The Applejack toys (minus the new Funko and upcoming 4de plush) are the most disappointing, thank goodness for those 2! I can't wait for the 4de Applejack :D I think I've said this before, but a show accurate AJ blind bag would be fabulous. :D

I don't like the ''kids are too stupid to notice the difference'' approach. There are lots of smart kids out there who would notice the difference

I wish Hasbro would respect kids intelligence more

Well it's true that I'm not exactly a fan of the brushables.... Though I try to avoid the cheap plastic knockoff things with hardly any effort put into them, not to mention they end up looking entirely different from how they appear in the show.

I for one, wouldn't mind paying a bit of extra money for some quality figures!

at the end of the day hasbro want the least amount of effort for the most money

that is why you have 3 different kinds of pony breeds and tons and tons of recolors

like the blind bags,

That's why I love what the fandom itself has created over the years. Much better quality
