books I need a good sci fi trilogy.
Flying Space Badger replied to Dark Fox's topic in Media Discussion
Sci-Fi titles that should be mentioned in a recommendation thread. I can guarantee none of these books involve people fighting dragons. The Pern dragons are more sentient tools. McAffry: Crystal Singer Killashandra The entire Pern series (Mix of fantasy and sci-fi. Dragon's Dawn is the best example of this.) Niven: The Ringworld series Fleet of Worlds series Legacy of Heorot Beowulf's Children Footfall Lucifer's Hammer Integral Trees Smoke Ring Destiny's Road The Man-Kzin Wars (There are a few of these. Not sure how many but I believe four in total.) Also dozens of books set in his Known Space universe (Same universe as Ringworld and Fleet of Worlds.) C.J. Cherryh Hammer Fall Forge of Heaven Gordon Dickson Most of his books. I can't even begin to make a list. Sara Douglass Wayfarer Redemption series (Starts out high fantasy for the first three books, then adopts many sci-fi elements in the last four. Easily on par with Tolkien for epicness and quality.) -
gaming Tabletop games (pen/paper RPGs, adventure board games, strategy games, etc)
Flying Space Badger replied to Evilshy's topic in Media Discussion
Oh dear. I just discovered this thread and a flood of hilarious D&D related memories flooded back. Sadly, I think the only one that would not fall under "you had to be there" was my half orc barbarian in version 3.0 One hit killing a frost giant with a snow ball, wounding a second, and scaring a third silly. All with a single snowball...sort of. I played my character as an idiot in all ways save being a tactical genius. It worked, back story as a war hero in our world. Anyway, we were in a cave (always caves. ALWAYS.) and a trio of ice giants popped out in defense of the stereotypical evil wizard. We fought with them for almost three hours real time before they nearly killed the druid and the ranger was severely wounded. The mage's familer was dead, he himself was out of spells except a minor ranged ice melting spell, and my axe was still stuck in the first giant's big toe. I suddenly get the brilliantly insane idea to make a snowball and have the wizard melt the base of a particularly hefty icicle and we had the ranger and druid lead the giants under it. I said "I throw the snowball at the icicle." DM: Make an attack roll Me: Strength or dex bonus? DM: It's a long throw, eh...Strength. Me: Uhm. Hate me now. 20+8. DM: <Rolls dice> ... I hate you. The icicle snaps and plunges into the lead giant's skull killing him instantly. He falls backwards and breaks the second giant's femur. The last giant looks at them in bewilderment. Then he looks at you. Me: Can I roll an intimidation check? DM: <Sigh> Go ahead. Me: 20 DM: The remaining giant panics, waves his arms in the air, and dislodges several more icicles which impale him. Congratulations. You managed to either kill or incapacitate three giants that were supposed to be a party wipe with a single snowball. I need to finish writing the campaign now. -
gaming Playing as the opposite gender
Flying Space Badger replied to Mutemutt's topic in Media Discussion
Let me pre-face my post with the following: I grew up on Everquest 1 and table top D&D, and have played MMOs ever since. Now, a big reason I personally find myself playing female characters in video games (I am male, by the by) is often in MMOs they seem to have more detailed designs and animations, not to mention better voice acting where applicable. I often feel like an oddity though due to most males are easily distinguished when playing female characters due to making them the stereotypical hourglass figure with gigantic gonzos. And I have never been confused for a female, though my characters have been remarked upon as being more realistic than most. I even go so far as to construct armor/clothing sets that look functional, yet semi-stylish. Then there is the point where my years playing D&D come in. I like to make up back stories for my characters, and find female leads are simply easier to write for. Heck, the book series I am currently working on features numerous women in leading roles. Besides, let's face it. Heroins are badass. This is not to say I dislike playing male characters as well, but it really depends on my head canon at character creation, the aesthetics of each gender of each race, and voice acting. -
movies/tv What was the saddest thing you watched?
Flying Space Badger replied to TomokoKuroki's topic in Media Discussion
This short film made as a render engine demo is one of the saddest things ever. The cruelest part is how uplifting it is at the highest point, only to dash all your hopes and dream into the deepest abyss. -
gaming Pokémon X and Y: Non-Official Official Thread
Flying Space Badger replied to Shift's topic in Media Discussion
Having recently started playing White 2, I am looking forward to this continuation of the franchise. Will prolly snag a copy for my 3DS then download a ROM of it to do a Let's Play. Of course, the version I choose will be determined by which one has Growlithe in it... I NEED my Arcanine! -
Why be so offended by the word "pegasister"?
Flying Space Badger replied to Sugar Pea's topic in Sugarcube Corner
To be quite honest, I never saw the terms as any different then addressing an audience as "Ladies and gentlemen." Though I also cannot say I have ever heard anyone actually verbally called a pegasister. And now, saying it out loud myself, it sounds pretty ridiculous... ... Brony isn't much better in the silly sounding words department. -
I have a youtube channel with game commentary myself. I used Fraps until just recently when I found and tried out Mirillis' Action! recording software. Suddenly an hour of recording doesnt eat up 100g+ on my harddrive, and in fact, often only takes up about 15-20g! Here is the link to it: http://mirillis.com/en/products/action.html As for my channel itself, I have just hit 50 subs. I don't do any real advertising mind you, and certainly refuse to post on other peoples videos. If there is interest in starting a community, count me in! Feel free to look over my content here: http://www.youtube.com/Carnasid Edit: I should mention I have a voip service also that is free to use, and doesn't require Skype info or any other personal info being given out. If there is interest, I can easily set up a sub-channel for people to use.

movies/tv Anyone here like Transformers Prime?
Flying Space Badger replied to Pony Of The Month's topic in Media Discussion
I just checked this myself. Huh, it seems they are doing another movie. I hope it is an actual movie this time and not just a chunk of episodes smooshed together! -
movies/tv Anyone here like Transformers Prime?
Flying Space Badger replied to Pony Of The Month's topic in Media Discussion
I never could get into the older Transformers shows as a kid, though I did enjoy the toys. Then, about a year or two back the game War for Cybertron came out and was amazing as far as story development. Shortly after I heard rumblings of an animated show using the game as canon and then Prime came out. It's possibly one of the best animated series I've seen, and I've seen a lot of amazing animated shows. The movie you spoke of is actually just the first three episodes of season 3 aired together, sadly. But still bloody amazing. Season two is very dark by the way, so prepare yourself accordingly. -
lets play RB's Let's Plays
Flying Space Badger replied to Flying Space Badger's topic in Non-Pony Art & Creations
It's arrived! My first episode of Pokemon White 2 went up today. Sure I spend half of it looking for an oddly elusive Mareep, but that's what being the best is about; right? RIGHT?! -

The Epicness of Tara Strong
Flying Space Badger replied to DiscordAnarchy's topic in Sugarcube Corner
Let's not forget Rikku from Final Fantasy X, Kingdom Hearts 2, and FFX-2. You can hear a little bit of Bubbles creep into that character, which is what first made me realize who voiced her! She was also involved in Samurai Jack, and a ton of other stuff. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0152839/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1 -
Just 'cause. And one of the first pokemon I caught was an Azurill actually, named him Squish! Then I found a Riolu and spent nearly an hour trying to catch the apparently hyper elusive Mareep. 45 Lilipups later...

One of these threads, possibly this one, rekindled my interest in the Pokemon games. So much so that I wrangled a copy of White 2 and have started a Let's Play of it. First episode even goes up Wednesday! If anyone wants to follow it, channel link is my sig.

I have recently been playing Star Trek Online a lot. Possibly an unhealthy amount (No such thing!). Anyway, I was wondering if we had an STO fleet or not, and if so, how many people were interested in the new Romulan faction that will be released in May? If anyone else plays, what do you like/dislike about the game, and what faction do you prefer? My tag is @jadescale1 and I do quite a bit of PVE in the form of STFs and helping newbies with missions and such.

lets play RB's Let's Plays
Flying Space Badger replied to Flying Space Badger's topic in Non-Pony Art & Creations
Due to a recent upgrade in recording software, I will be starting a Pokemon White 2 Let's Play soon! This is very exciting for me as I have not dabbled in the world of Pokemon since Crystal, and have missed quite a lot. I am also considering subjecting myself to a few bouts of Robot Unicorn Attack, for the giggles. Don't miss it! -
gaming Games that went faulty on you at crucial moments
Flying Space Badger replied to shocker1991's topic in Media Discussion
Did a no save run on Xenogears (excluding the mandatory disk break saves) and on the last boss the game froze. Tears were had, words were said, I'm not proud of it. -
Hello, I am a Youtuber that produces Let's Plays of various games. The idea behind this post is to tell you what I am currently playing, and for you to suggest games for me to play. Everything below here is subject to change. I have a Summoner 2 LP that is quite far along, and is currently my most watched series. Great game that has aged well due to it's art style, and a highly underrated gem. Next up we have Final Fantasy X. Classic RPG of some renown that I am sure many are familiar with and one of my top 5 games. I recently began a Minecraft series utilizing the Thaumcraft mod, along with Twilight Forest and several dozen other neat things. Waking Mars is an indie dev game that is quite smartly written (SCIENCE!) and offers a dose of exploration, problem solving, and environmental balancing. As per below, my Pokemon White 2 series is well underway and it is quite enjoyable. Despite this long list, I am always open to suggestions of games to play. One of my future projects will Dragon Age 2, and Kingdom Hearts 1, 2, and any of the other in between games I can get a hold of. If you just read all of this, thank you for taking the time to do so! My channel itself can be found in my signature. Drop by and check me out! Links to mentioned playlists: Summoner 2: Final Fantasy X: Thaumcraft: Wizardry 101: Waking Mars: Pokemon White 2:

I never could stand Tobuscus' videos to be honest. And the last PewDie video I really enjoyed was his Journey Let's Play. As jackw545 above said, Diction, Gassy, Chilled and their little circle are some of the better channels IMO. Then there is Captain Sparklez and his amazing music videos.

Fantastic list, first of all. Some real cornerstone series listed. A few others to check out, that I highly recommend: Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit (Absolutely stunning series with some of the most amazing fight sequences.) Last Exile (Nothing I can say will do this show justice.) Trigun (Pretty much a staple of the genre.) Mushi-Shi (Slower paced, but extremely deep.) Tears to Tiara (One of the better story lines I've seen in a series in any genre.)

gaming Saddest/Most Emotional music in a game?
Flying Space Badger replied to ActFast231's topic in Media Discussion
As I recall, Xenogears was filled with emotional music fitting it's very tragic story. Seriously, that game was deep and depressing. And I won't even go into the large chunks of it that were down right creepy.- 32 replies

Japanese MLP: Subbed or Dubbed?
Flying Space Badger replied to ~Scootaloo's topic in Sugarcube Corner
To be quite honest, the choices listed are inadequate. For many mainstream shows (I'm looking at you Bleach) the dubs are often cringe worthy, yes, but on the flip side, for production studios such as Studio Ghibli, their dubs are very well done. What I'm trying to say it, it really depends on the show, in my opinion. -
gaming What is your favorite game or game series?
Flying Space Badger replied to ~TheStealthyPony~'s topic in Media Discussion
You know, despite how many games I own, and have played, naming my favorite series actually made me pause for a moment. My impulse would have been to say "Final Fantasy." Then I remembered how much I disliked 7, and how terrible X-2 and 13 were. I thought, "Maybe Pokemon?" But no, I missed generations 3-whatever it's on now, so I can't really offer an opinion on that series anymore, it's only been a decade since I last played it anyway! Then it struck me. The one series I've played since the title launch back in the early PS1 days and continue to buy every new version of. Armored Core. As for favorite game, no contest. Final Fantasy 9.
